  • Effect of Diethyl Ether on the Performance and Emission Characteristics of a Diesel Engine Fueled with a Light Fraction of Waste Cooking Oil

    In this study, a diesel engine was used to operate with blends of light fraction waste cooking oil (LFWCO) with diethyl ether (DEE). DEE was blended as an additive in the 5% to 20% ratio in steps of 5% each. The test indicates that LFWCO+15-DEE produced optimum results regarding performance and emission. The BSFC for LFWCO+15-DEE was found to be higher by about 28.9%, and the BTE was lower by about 7.6%, in contrast to diesel, at 100% operating load, respectively. For LFWCO+15-DEE the EGT was lower by about 11.9%, in contrast to neat diesel, at 100% operating load. The various emissions such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrous oxide (NO), and smoke opacity for LFWCO+15-DEE were found to be lower by about 32.9%, 25%, and 29.4%, but the NO release was more than other blends and it was about 36%, in contrast to diesel at 100% operating load, respectively.

    In this work, biochar produced from breadfruit leaves was utilized to remove the toxic Congo red dye. XRD, FTIR, and FESEM-EDX were implemented to characterize the biochar. Response surface methodology (RSM) and the Box-Behnken design (BBD) techniques were used to evaluate Congo red’s optimum adsorption efficiency. The adsorption of Congo red was studied by varying dye concentrations (5–50 mg/L), times (30–240 min), pH (6–9), and dosages (0.5–2 g/100 mL). X-ray diffractometer results show that the structure of biochar is amorphous. The biochar exhibited unbounded OH, aliphatic CH group, and C=O stretch, as shown by the band peaks at 3340 cm−1, 2924 cm−1, and 1625 cm−1 intensities. RSM-BBD design results showed maximum removal efficiency of 99.96% for Congo red at pH 6.37, dye concentration 45 mg/L, time 105 min, and dosage 1.92 g, respectively. The adsorption of Congo red by biochar was successfully modeled using the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order model. The biochar produced from breadfruit leaves exhibited a high adsorption capacity of 17.81 mg/g for Congo red adsorption. It suggests that the adsorption is both homogenous monolayer and physicochemical.

    Biosorption is a very effective technique to eliminate the heavy metals present in the wastewater that utilize nongrowing biomass. The adsorption ability of the Periyakulam-2 (PKM-2) variety of Moringa Oleifera leaves (MOLs) to eliminate Pb(II) and Zn(II) ions from an aqueous solution was examined in this work. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller methods were used to characterize the PKM-2 variety of MOLs. The set of variables consists of the metal ion initial concentration, a dosage of the adsorbent, and pH were optimized with the help of the response surface methodology to get maximum metal removal efficiency of lead and zinc metals using the PKM-2 MOL biosorbent. A maximum Pb(II) removal of 95.6% was obtained under the condition of initial concentration of metal ions 38 mg/L, a dosage of the adsorbent 1.5 g, and pH 4.7, and a maximum zinc removal of 89.35% was obtained under the condition of initial concentration of metal ions 70 mg/L, a dosage of the adsorbent 0.6 g, and pH 3.2. The presence of lead and zinc ions on the biosorbent surface and the functional groups involved in the adsorption process were revealed using EDX and FTIR analysis, respectively. The adsorption data were evaluated by employing different isotherm and kinetic models. Among the isotherm models, Langmuir’s isotherm showed that the best fit and maximum adsorption capacities are 51.71 and 38.50 mg/g for lead and zinc, respectively. Kinetic studies showed accordance with the pseudo-second-order model to lead and zinc metal adsorption. Thermodynamic parameters confirmed (ΔG° < 0, ΔH° < 0, and ΔS° > 0) that the sorption mechanism is physisorption, exothermic, spontaneous, and favorable for adsorption. The results from this study show that the MOL of the PKM-2 type is a promising alternative for an ecofriendly, low-cost biosorbent that can effectively remove lead and zinc metals from aqueous solutions.

Hence for the save guard of the environment some statutory measures to be implemented and to be followed strictly. All ready few norms have been set down for the protection of the environment. But such norms and rules to be reviewed and revised. Especially tree cutting should be reduced down to zero and alternate solution to be implemented for paper requisite purpose..

  • Effect of non-Newtonian fluids on the performance of plate type heat exchanger

    A plate heat exchanger constitutes a series of parallel plates, placed one on top of the other so as to permit the forming of a series of channels for fluids to flow between them.The objective of this analysis is to study the performance of the plate type heat exchanger (PHE) with the non-Newtonian fluid (sodium alginate). The experiment were conducted on Plate type Heat Exchanger for parallel and counter current flow patterns with different concentration (0.1%,0.5% and 1%) of cold fluid. A comparison among collateral flow and counter current flow heat exchanger was done. The obtained result shows that counter current flow heat exchanger proved to be more effective than parallel type heat exchanger.

    Vaccination is often associated with the prevention of diseases, (i.e.) it prevents future malfunctions in our body. The root causes of most of the malfunctions are the microbes or pathogens which enter our body directly or indirectly. Thus, a war between these antigens and our cell system is broken out and to an extent, the immune system in our body helps in defeating the antigens, but certain antigens are capable enough to overcome the immunity of our body. These are generally auto-immune and also genetically inherited diseases. One big question that arises is do we have a solution that can monitor the activities of cells, tissues, and organs. Thus, we need an artificial mechanism that, like blood cells circulates in the bloodstream. This is the situation; where the idea of programmable nanobots comes into the picture wherein these nanometer-sized artificial systems circulate in the bloodstream and monitors Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Work functions of organs and entry of foreign bodies. So, any abnormalities in our body can be detected by the biosensors in the nanobots at the point of entry itself and the tracking system monitors it from outside. The early remedy can prevent the microbes to develop its activity to a vulnerable stage. It also helps in preparing the genes that malfunction due to mutation, chromosomal aberration, etc. Hence, we name this idea as NANOVACCINATION, i.e. prevention at the nano level.

    In the modern technological era there is lot of demand of energy in daily day to day life since from the beginning of the day to night, continuously. With the increase of people and technological development the energy consumption rate is also increasing drastically. The proper energy utilization, energy saving and switch to alternate renewal energy is the social responsibility and liability of each individual person to save guard the world available non renewal energy and global warming. Energy management and optimum energy utilization can be done by using various materials. Some of the important materials are as lithium-ion batteries to run electronic and mechanical devices such as laptop battery, mobile battery, camera battery, portable charger, rechargeable batteries, electric car, material handling devices by using lithium-ion batteries ( such as forklift, robot, drone etc.), trimmer machine, grass cutting machine, refrigeration system etc. While the piezo electric materials can be use for automatic cut off electric supply system when there is no demand in unmanned area reason. Renewal energy sources such as solar cell to generate electricity, water heating, car power supply system, solar cooker is also under research and implementing dynamically in most of the cities and in rural areas to utilize free Solar energy to reduce down power plant load by one time investment. Wind turbines of vertical as well as horizontal type is also being installed in the cities, in the building roofs, road divider area, rural available space area is being popularly used with the Government interference and encouragement to use available free renewal energy resources to maintain clean and green energy management system in the urban as well as rural area.

  • Heat transfer augmentation approach in double pipe heat exchanger

    In recent years researchers are focussing in augmenting the heat transfer rate of heat exchangers because it is crucial in engineering applications. The double pipe is the commonly used heat transfer equipment in industries due to its easy manufacturing, maintenance and compactness. Researchers had made a lot of efforts to enhance the thermal performance of the double pipe. In this paper, the modifications have done on double pipe heat exchanger using discontinuous helical turbulators, with open-cell porous foam, air bubble injection etc. for the heat transfer enhancement and the various methods the double pipe went through has discussed in details. In this present article reviewed the correlations of Nusselt number, Reynolds number and ΔP in Double pipe heat exchanger for heat transfer augmentation.

    A study has been carried out on the influence of Industry 4.0 (I 4.0), in various fields of Mechanical Engineering like in air conditioning (A.C.), automobile etc. The sensors, cameras and mobile app software, mobiles, tabs, internet, wireless fidelity (wi-fi) etc. are the major driving tools in I 4.0. With the help of mobile app software, the A.C. can be operated very smartly. The smart sensors installed in A.Cs can detect the room temperature and can get automatic on or off based of the detection of cooling and worming. By introducing smart sensors, cameras and by activating global positioning system (GPS) in the cars the automated driving facility provided to the human kind.
