Edge detection using Chebyshev's orthogonal polynomial and brain extraction from magnetic resonance images of human head K. Somasundaram, P. A. Kalaividya, T. Kalaiselvi, R. Krishnamoorthy, S. Praveenkumar International Journal of Imaging Systems and Technology, 2019 In this article, we propose a new edge detecting method based on the transform coefficients obtained by a point spread function constructed out of Chebyshev's orthogonal polynomials. This edge detector finds edges similar to that of Prewitt and Roberts but is robust against additive and multiplicative noises. We also propose a new scheme to extract brain portion from the magnetic resonance images (MRI) of human head scan by making use of the of the new edge detector. The proposed scheme involves edge detection, morphological operations, and largest connected component analysis. Experiments conducted by applying the proposed scheme on 19 volumes of MRI collected from Internet Brain Segmentation Repository (IBSR) show that the proposed brain extraction scheme performed better than the popular Brain Extraction Tool (BET). The performance of the proposed scheme is measured by computing the Dice coefficient (D) and Jaccard similarity index (J). The proposed method produced a value of 0.9068 for D and 0.8321 for J.
Automated Traffic Monitoring Using Image Vision R. Krishnamoorthy, Sethu Manickam Proceedings of the International Conference on Inventive Communication and Computational Technologies Icicct 2018, 2018 The process of traffic monitoring is predominantly carried out manually in our country. Traffic monitoring encompasses a set of stringent rules to be followed while ensuring that there are no traffic jams at the juncture of roads. In this paper, a novel method is proposed to automate the traffic signal lights with the assistance of multiple CCTV cameras connected over the Internet to survey various roads at the junction. The process comprises two primary phases: Vehicle Detection System and Traffic Scheduling Algorithm. Vehicle Detection shall be carried out in Digital Image Processing (DIP) by applying a simple kernel-based Edge Detection in Spatial Domain followed by an algorithm to detect the perimeter of closed figures while simultaneously applying the concepts of Machine Learning to classify the vehicle type into the following categories of motorcycle, light motor vehicle, and heavy motor vehicle. Subsequent processes are carried out in a novel Traffic Scheduling Algorithm through the help of a hybrid Round Robin having a dynamic time slice obtained by using Longest Remaining Job First to periodically update the traffic signal lights to relax the traffic. Instead of turning on the green light for a fixed amount of time, the duration will be managed dynamically based on the amount of traffic in each road. Thus, the proposed system is aimed at reducing the jamming of roads by a huge extent.
Motion Estimation and Compensation in Frequency Domain R. Krishnamoorthy, P. Archana, V. Hema Priya, K. Akshaya Proceedings of the International Conference on Inventive Communication and Computational Technologies Icicct 2018, 2018 In this paper, a novel method for motion estimation and compensation in frequency domain for the purpose of video compression is proposed. The proposed scheme is based on the coefficients of frequency domain obtained from the image blocks after the application of Orthogonal Polynomials Transformation (OPT). It uses the three-step search algorithm to estimate the search area for finding the best match in the subsequent frame with respect to each block in the current frame. The quality of match found will be contingent upon the value of Mean Absolute Difference, more commonly known as MAD, between the blocks. The motion vectors produced during motion estimation are utilized in the motion compensation process in order to produce the predicted frame for subsequent compression. The performance of the proposed scheme is experimented with good number of standard video and measured with Mean Square Error (MSE). The results are encouraging.
A secure cloud-based multi-agent intelligent system for mammogram image diagnosis S.R. Bhavani, A. Chilambuchelvan, J. Senthilkumar, D. Manjula, R. Krishnamoorthy, A. Kannan International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, 2018 Significant and radical improvements in the healthcare industry today have facilitated the monitoring of patients through the internet. Breast cancer has become a widespread malaise across the globe, with many dependent on the internet for a diagnosis. A range of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and big data have been adopted in cancer diagnosis. Of late, a new framework for a cloud-based, multi-agent system to support secure intelligent mammogram image diagnosis for breast cancer detection has been developed. There is, as yet, not fully automated, generic, multi-agent intervention system with a cloud infrastructure for breast cancer patients, and implementation guidelines are, at best, deficient. The objective of this study is to enhance diagnostic performance, and increase scalability, response time and throughput. It is found that it has a high ratio of acceptance from users and attains superior sensitivity of up to 99.25% and accuracy of up to 99.0%.
A Systematic Analysis of Transform Coefficients and Block Decomposition for Texture Enhancement with Orthogonal Polynomials Model Krishnamoorthy Ramasamy, Devasena Ganesan IEEE Transactions on Systems Man and Cybernetics Systems, 2017 Although numerous image enhancement techniques have been reported in the literature, enhancing a specific feature of an image is a challenging task and requires careful study. With that said, a novel threefold texture enhancement technique in the orthogonal polynomials transformed domain is proposed in this paper, by identifying the contribution of coefficients toward particular low-level characteristics. In the first fold, a systematic semantic analysis of orthogonal polynomials transformed coefficients is carried out in terms of the response of the basis operators and the directional properties of the coefficients are identified. A block decomposition scheme is then proposed with Meyer’s model and blocks with different low-level characteristics are identified. In the second fold, an adaptive brightness adjustment scheme is proposed for nontextured blocks. In the case of texture blocks, besides brightness adjustments, a texture sharpening scheme based on the modification of the ac transform coefficients is proposed as the third fold. The proposed texture enhancement scheme is experimented on the standard benchmark University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign images. The performance of the proposed texture enhancement scheme is measured with standard measures and compared with existing schemes. The results are encouraging.
Trade off between variable and fixed size normalization in orthogonal polynomials based iris recognition system R. Krishnamoorthi, G. Anna Poorani Springerplus, 2016 Iris normalization is an important stage in any iris biometric, as it has a propensity to trim down the consequences of iris distortion. To indemnify the variation in size of the iris owing to the action of stretching or enlarging the pupil in iris acquisition process and camera to eyeball distance, two normalization schemes has been proposed in this work. In the first method, the iris region of interest is normalized by converting the iris into the variable size rectangular model in order to avoid the under samples near the limbus border. In the second method, the iris region of interest is normalized by converting the iris region into a fixed size rectangular model in order to avoid the dimensional discrepancies between the eye images. The performance of the proposed normalization methods is evaluated with orthogonal polynomials based iris recognition in terms of FAR, FRR, GAR, CRR and EER.
