Bi2O3/ZnO heterostructured semiconductor nanocomposites: synthesis, characterization and its visible light-induced degradation of methylene blue dye Velanganni Simeyon, Ayyar Dinesh, Deivanayagam Deivatamil, Raghavan Thiruneelakandan, Boominathan Catherin Meena, Manikandan Mathavi, Govindaswamy Padmapriya, Manikandan Durka, Manikandan Ayyar, AbuZar Ansarie, Mohamed Hashem, Hassan Fouad Zeitschrift Fur Physikalische Chemie, 2024 In this study, we describe the creation of linked semiconductor nanomaterials, which represents a significant development for photocatalytic applications. A Bi2O3–ZnO hetrostructured thin film was created using the SILAR-CBD deposition technique. In comparison to pure ZnO and Bi2O3, the produced heterostructured thin film showed greater photocatalytic (PCD) activity for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under UV light. The formation of Bi2O3 (monoclinic lattice phase) and ZnO (hexagonal wurtzite phase) are the heterostructured nanomaterials that were generated, according to a powder XRD inspection. An image taken with HR-TEM demonstrates the mixing of nanoparticles and nanorod formations in the Bi2O3/ZnO. The vectorial movement of electrons (e−) and holes (h+) between ZnO and Bi2O3 is responsible for the boosted photocatalytic efficiency, which is in turn, accountable for the enhanced photocatalytic activities.
Effect of Photodegradation on Ternary FeNiS2 Thin Film with Complexing Agents EDTA and Leishman Stain G.D. Gayathri, R. Thiruneelakandan Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2022 The aim of this study is to analyze the photocatalytic dye degradation efficiency of FeNiS2 with EDTA and Leishman stain thin films prepared using a sol-gel technique. The results of surface morphology and elemental composition, optical characterization of these films obtained using various characterization techniques such as SEM, EDX, UV-VIS spectroscopy. The photocatalytic studies show that the addition of EDTA and Leishman extraordinarily enhances the photocatalytic efficiency of FeNiS2. The FeNiS2 with EDTA, FeNiS2 with Leishman stain thin films causes 92%, 90% and 89% decomposition of methylene blue, malachite green and crystal violet dye molecules, respectively.
Biochar remediation techniques: efficient and eco-friendly tool for sustainable environment G. Subbulakshmi, R. Thiruneelakandan, G. Padmapriya Biochar Applications for Bioremediation of Contaminated Systems, 2022 In recent years, disposal of wastes from various sources like domestic, agriculture, and industries has caused serious environmental hazards and economic problems. Contaminated soil remediation using biochar has been intensively studied in ex situ and in situ techniques with acquired valuable results and versatile effects. Biochar has been exploiting as a good alteration to bring to a halt of heavy metals in contaminated soils. Biochar-based remediation technology has developed rapidly. This method offers an approach that may be less environmentally disruptive and more cost-effective, though the efficacy of biochar in metal contamination process depends on biochar properties and metal species. This chapter brings to light the margin of biochar application as an efficient improvement and propose further research directions to make sure the safe and sound use of biochar as adaptation remediation system of polluted soil.
Fabrication, Structural, Optical, Electrical Properties and Influence of Complexing Agents on Ternary CuZnS2 Thin Film E. Anuja, R. Thiruneelakandan Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2021 In the present work, copper zinc sulphide (CuZnS2) thin films with and without complexing agents using glass plate as substrate were prepared. Chemical bath deposition method was employed to deposit the thin films. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) patterns of the prepared films indicate the crystalline nature of CuZnS2 with cubic phases. The SEM and AFM images illustrate that the deposited films were highly influenced on the polyhedral morphology by the complexing agents. The influence of complexing agents on absorbance and band gap of the CuZnS2 thin films were characterized using UV-Vis absorption studies. Hall effect measurements indicate the CuZnS2 thin film without surfactant belongs to p-type semiconductor and become n-type after adding the complexing agents EDTA and Leishman stain. From the I-V curve, all the samples having slow conducting nature was found for changing the voltage with the current from -32 nA to +30 nA using solar stimulator.
