  • A Consumer-Centric Paradigm Shift in Business Environment with the Evolution of the Internet of Things: A Literature Review
    Sudesh Sheoran and Sanket Vij

    SAGE Publications
This study attempts to study the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) and its implications on the business environment in terms of understanding consumer behaviour and enhancing customer satisfaction through a literature review. A literature search is carried out focussing on the application of IoT for capturing consumer behaviour and enhancing customer experience and satisfaction. NVivo is used to identify the themes of the selected studies and cluster them based on the closeness of themes. It is found that the increasing quest for customer centricity and sustainability in an ever-changing technology environment have made businesses realize the potential benefits of IoT in terms of differentiation and competitive advantage. The perceived benefits influence IoT acceptance and customer satisfaction. However, the perceived risk associated with IoT in terms of privacy and security is a significant challenge for businesses. The future of IoT is based on how businesses are going to mitigate this challenge. While most of the studies suggest frameworks concerning IoT adoption and customer satisfaction in particular sectors or products, this study is unique in a way that it summarizes those studies and gives a brief view of IoT adoption to enhance customer satisfaction across different sectors, products and services.

  • Usability and Accessibility of Open Government Data Portals of Countries Worldwide: An Application of TOPSIS and Entropy Weight Method
Sudesh Sheoran, S. Mohanasundaram, R. Kasilingam, and Sanket Vij

    IGI Global
The open government data (OGD) portal is an initiative by governments worldwide to promote transparency and accountability and enhance citizen participation and public value creation. The ability of these portals to deliver the expected benefits depends on their usability and accessibility, besides their content. This study conducts an integrated assessment and comparison of the OGD portals of 75 countries based on their usability and accessibility. The usability of the portals is measured through several technical indicators, classified into performance metrics, browser timings, and optimisation using automated diagnostic tools. Accessibility is evaluated through portals' conformance to web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG). The ‘technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution' (TOPSIS) and entropy weight method are used to rank the portals. The findings of this study could be helpful for policymakers and internal stakeholders of OGD initiatives to identify the focus area and make decisions on resource allocation.

  • A Review of E-Government Assessment Frame-works: E-Readiness, Adoption, Citizen Engagement and Quality
    Sudesh Sheoran and Sanket Vij

JEDEM Journal of e-Democracy and Open Government
The rapid development of digitalization has impelled countries to adopt electronic government (e-government) to improve quality and efficiency, reduce costs and establish transparency in their transactions with the citizens, thereby, strengthening the government-citizens relationship. As e-government has become pivotal for development, it is essential to understand various frameworks available in the literature for evaluating a country’s e-government at different phases, from e-readiness to the realization of end benefits. Hence, this paper briefly reviews the e-government literature focusing on e-readiness, adoption, citizen engagement and performance and quality assessment frameworks. Further, a thematic analysis of the selected studies is carried out using NVivo and QDA Miner to map the main themes and subthemes and the associations among the selected studies. This paper contributes to the e-government literature with clear academic insights into different variables and dimensions in association with the evaluation of e-government and by setting a future research agenda for developing a holistic evaluation framework.

    Seema Nashier and Sanket Vij

    SAGE Publications
The life of people born in Dalit families is more challenging than others and the challenges upturn manifold if a downtrodden seek a livelihood in the field of entrepreneurship. Although, entrepreneurship is a risky affair for everyone it discommodes the Dalit community more. The paucity of societal support and resources, and above all lower caste label makes it highly troublesome for Dalit to cross the threshold of entrepreneurship and stay therein. Government and a few other organizations assure to provide all possible facilities and assistance to the Dalit aspirants through diverse schemes but many times these assurances are found outlying from reality. This empirical research article aims to provide qualitative insight into the previously published articles, research papers, and reports allied to the challenges of Dalit entrepreneurship. The thematic analysis technique has been applied for literature review using NVivo Software. The upshots of the study clearly depict that Dalit entrepreneurs are frequently confronted with severe difficulties, particularly due to the unfair conduct of various stakeholders. This research study will make a considerable contribution to the Dalit literature and outcomes will assist the policymakers to enhance the efficiency of entrepreneurial schemes to the expected level.

  • Crowdfunding: Exploring the Factors That Could Motivate People to Raise Fund or Make Investment Through Crowdfunding Platforms in Emerging Countries
Anita Sharma, Sanket Vij, and Ajay Kumar

    SAGE Publications
This study aims to explore the factors motivating the prospective investors towards adopting crowdfunding for making investments and assess the impact of motivators on the intention of the investors to invest in the crowdfunding projects in emerging countries. This study used a survey research to collect perceptions regarding motivators for crowdfunding investments. Also, a structural modelling equation has been adopted to model and analyse data. Motivators like monetary utility, personal utility, campaign and campaign owner, social and sense of belongingness and societal utility have been identified from the literature and empirically investigated in the study. This study has been conducted in an emerging country which could limit its generalization for this spectrum. Further studies considering the perceptual factors herein adopted could be run in developed countries in order to understand if the findings remain the same or any other contrasting evidence is observed. The model built in this study could be used by anyone who is planning to raise funds through crowdfunding. The crowdfunding platforms through the research findings can extend advice to the fund seeker and ensure that campaigns posted on his portal has the necessary ingredients. The model built is positively an initial attempt to understand the motivators which pushes the prospective investors towards crowdfunding campaigns in emerging countries. This study contributes especially to the emerging countries, in which crowdfunding concept and initiatives are still few widespread. By the understanding of perceptual factors, policy-makers may act successfully on fostering initiatives regarding crowdfunding developments. This can enhance economic and social aspects of those countries through several innovation developments. The existing literary talks about crowdfunding in developed economies, very few studies have taken place in emerging economies and moreover no study has focused on building a model which could encompass all the factors impacting investors’ decision making towards crowdfunding. This research is novel since the concept of crowdfunding is relatively new and the factors which could possibly motivate the prospective investors to consider projects for investments are not known, mainly in emerging countries and hence has been studied in the current research.
