Synthesis and characterization of Curcuma Caesia plant root extract-mediated ZnO nanoparticles: efficacy as soil conditioner and plant growth promoter Amritanshu Pathak, Priyvart Choudhary, Garima Kumari, Vinay Kumar Pandey, Shailendra Thapliyal, Ayaz Mukarram Shaikh, Béla Kovács Scientific Reports, 2026 Green synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles is emerging as potential application for sustainable farming. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were successfully biosynthesized by Curcuma caessia rhizome extract as a reducing and stabilizing agents in the present investigation and they were applied to test their role as a soil conditioner and growth promoter for Abelmoschus esculentus . Characterization of the synthesized ZnO NPs was carried out by UV–Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, AFM, dynamic light scattering and ζ-potential analysis. The UV–Vis absorption spectrum exhibited an absorbance at 340 nm, indicating the formation of ZnO and the crystalline nature of this product was confirmed by XRD measurements with average size along (002) plane equals 43 nm. The hydrodynamic size of the nanoparticles was shown to be 217 nm with a ζ-potential of −22.1 mV, reflecting an acceptable colloidal stability. Field and germination studies revealed that seed germination, vegetative growth, flowering, and yield parameters were significantly improved in ZnO NP-treated plants compared to control ones in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, ^1H-NMR metabolomics of okra pods indicated changes in primary and secondary metabolite profiles, indicating possible modulation of metabolic pathways by ZnO NP. The findings of the study revealed that Curcuma caesia – synthesized ZnO NPs acted as an eco-friendly nanomaterial to modulate plant growth and metabolic performance suggesting its possible use toward sustainable farming.
Dietary phytochemicals and nutraceuticals in Hormetic modulation of human health: Molecular mechanisms and translational perspectives Divya Surisetti, Priyvart Choudhary, Vinay Kumar Pandey, Shailendra Thapliyal Food Chemistry Advances, 2026 • Hormetic phytochemicals activate Nrf2, AMPK, and sirtuins to boost cellular defense systems. • Nutraceuticals offer non-toxic, adaptive support against chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. • Polyphenols and flavonoids enhance mitochondrial function and metabolic resilience in humans. • Hormetic agents show promise in treating aging, neurodegeneration, and cardiometabolic disorders. • Bioactives enable functional foods, personalized nutrition, and immune-enhancing health strategies. Phytochemicals and nutraceuticals are the focus of substantial interest because of their potential to modulate human health by adaptive change in biological response. Evidence is growing that many of the bioactive compounds exert their modulation on beneficial effects based on hormesis, a biphasic dose–response phenomenon in which low doses stimulate protective cell-based mechanisms while high concentrations can have toxic action. Natural bioactive dietary compounds including polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids and organosulfur species from plant-based foods have been found to modulate fundamental signaling networks that govern redox balance, inflammation, energetic status and resilience of cells such as the Nrf2, AMPK, sirtuins and mitochondrial stress response pathways. More recent evidence also indicates that the health effects of these compounds are not due solely to their direct antioxidant activity but derive from their capacity to induce mild stress responses in cells, stimulating endogenous defense mechanisms. This review comprehensively compiles molecular, cellular and systemic data connecting bioactive-rich dietary sources to hormesisal regulation and adaptive stress responses. The objective of this review is to present a mechanistic and integrative perspective on the manner in which hormetic modulation of human health is influenced by bioactive phytochemicals and nutraceuticals.
Mechanistic insights into sonication-assisted cold plasma treatments for improved microbial decontamination and quality maintenance in perishable foods Vinay Kumar Pandey, Pinku Chandra Nath, Shailendra Thapliyal, Ayaz Mukarram Shaikh Ultrasonics Sonochemistry, 2026 Food preservation technologies are advancing towards the production of safe, minimally processed, and nutritious food products. Cold plasma (CP) is an emerging non-thermal technology that has received considerable attention for its potential application in decontaminating food from pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms with minimal damage to quality. Sonication, another acoustic cavitation-based technique, also provides similar synergistic advantages, such as mass transfer enhancement and disintegration of microbial membranes with enhanced exposure to reactive species. Sonication-assisted cold plasma (SACP), a combination of sonication and cold plasma, is a promising advancement in the preservation of food by enhancing the effects of microbial inactivation and shelf-life extension at lower energy input and treatment time. As well as its application for enzyme inactivation, bioactive retention, and packaging decontamination, the literature that is now accessible provides support for its potential use in fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and liquid foods. This review evaluates the fundamental concepts of sonication-assisted plasma activity. Additionally, the comparative advantages of this technology in comparison to stand-alone technologies are discussed, and the practical uses of this technology in food processing are highlighted.

Carbon nanodots in breast cancer management: emerging tools for diagnosis and therapy Vrutti Parmar, Krina Patel, Sachin Sharma, Kundan Kumar Chaubey, Shailendra Thapliyal, Devesh U. Kapoor Journal of Drug Targeting, 2026 Breast cancer is still a major global health issue and calls for innovative approaches for both early detection and effective treatment. Because of their distinct optical characteristics, biocompatibility and ease of surface functionalisation, carbon nanodots (CANDs), a novel class of carbon-based nanomaterials, have become effective agents in cancer nanomedicine. This review comprehensively explores the synthesis, physicochemical characteristics and functionalisation strategies of CANDs relevant to oncological applications. The review entails their mechanisms of action, including cellular uptake, tumour microenvironment (TME) modulation and reactive oxygen species generation. CANDs offer remarkable potential in breast cancer diagnosis through fluorescence imaging, photoacoustic and MRI enhancement, and biosensing, with advances towards point-of-care diagnostics. Therapeutically, CANDs serve as carriers for drug, gene and small interfering RNA (siRNA) delivery, and enable modalities such as photothermal, photodynamic and chemo-phototherapy, with emerging applications in immunotherapy. Additionally, theranostic systems integrating diagnostic and therapeutic functionalities are highlighted. The review also addresses clinical progress, patents and translational challenges while projecting future directions involving AI and hybrid nanodots, paving the way for next-generation breast cancer management.
