Theoretical Investigation of Mid Infrared Temperature Sensor Based on Sagnac Interferometer Using Chloroform Filled Photonic Crystal Fiber Md. Shakhawath Hossain, Mohammad Faisal IEEE Sensors Journal, 2021 In this paper, a novel Sagnac Interferometer (SI) based chalcogenide Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) temperature sensor is theoretically and numerically analyzed operating in the mid infrared (MIR) region. The PCF cladding air holes are proposed to be filled with a highly temperature sensitive liquid chloroform to enhance the temperature sensitivity. The temperature sensing characteristics of three different infiltration technique is investigated theoretically and compared by Finite Element Method (FEM). Simulation results show that full infiltration performs better than partial infiltration. In the numerical analysis two sensing dips with high linearity is achieved for full infiltration which shows sensitivity of −5.77 nm/°C and 8.49 nm/°C when the temperature increases from 25 to 85 °C for the specific fiber length of 1.532 mm. The R2 values are 0.957446809 and 0.97680771 for the respective two sensing dips. The proposed highly sensitive sensor has broad detection window which can be applied in fingerprint unlocking, MIR radiation detection in human body, biomedicine applications, and environmental temperature monitoring.
Efficient and wide supercontinuum generation in dispersion engineered tellurite clad As2S3core photonic crystal fiber within 1 mm of fiber length Shah Md. Salimullah, Md. Shakhawath Hossain, Mohammad Faisal Optical Engineering, 2021 We present broadband supercontinuum generation in dispersion engineered tellurite clad As2S3 core photonic crystal fiber. Finite element method (FEM) is adopted for different numerical analysis of the fiber. The design is so engineered that zero dispersion is obtained at 1550-nm wavelength. Very high nonlinearity is achieved in the proposed structure as 5.5 × 104 W − 1 km − 1. For a 20 fs input pulse with 3-kW peak power, the fiber presents a wideband supercontinuum spectrum spanning a huge bandwidth of 11,454 nm using just 1-mm length of fiber. This might play a vital role in ultra-broadband signal amplification, biomedical imaging, biophotonics, and spectroscopy.
Stability Analysis of Grid Integrated BESS Based Hybrid Photovoltaic (PV) and Wind Power Generation Kamruzzaman Rakib, Shah Md. Salimullah, Md. Shakhawath Hossain, Muntasir Arhab Chowdhury, Johayer Safwan Ahmed 2020 IEEE Region 10 Symposium Tensymp 2020, 2020 Sustainable renewable energies are now increasing abruptly and received considerable attention worldwide. Sun and wind power are the two most common form of renewable energy resources. Solar irradiance and wind speed are fluctuating unconditionally, which creates a major challenge in grid integration. In this paper, grid integrated battery energy storage station-based hybrid photovoltaic and wind power generating hybrid power plant has been designed to examine the behavior of the system stability and the impacts on the system for different fault conditions. It contains PV, BESS, WT, DFIG, MPPT, PID, converters and controllers. Maximum peak power technique incremental conductance algorithm is used to extract the maximum power output from photovoltaic cells. BESS is used to produced constant output power from PV array at fluctuating irradiance. PID controller is used to wield duty cycles for battery charge and discharge controller. Wind turbine with doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is used. The simulation studies are carried out with MATLAB/Simulink. This paper shows a smooth and stable execution of BESS based hybrid PV-WT power system under different operating conditions and obtained nearly constant output power. PV and WT affected the transient stability of the system for a very short period.
Comparative Study of Enhancing Stability of Wind Farm attached to the Grid by PID Controller based STATCOM and Capacitor Bank Ajmayen Fayek, Shah Md. Salimullah, Md. Shakhawath Hossain, Rakib Hossain, Md. Shadman Hasan Shakib, et al. 1st International Conference on Advances in Science Engineering and Robotics Technology 2019 Icasert 2019, 2019 Comparative study of enhancing stability of a wind farm that is grid connected has exposed moderating voltage variability and achieving reactive power recompense by means of STATCOM (static synchronous compensator). A PID controller and voltage control loop altogether used for controlling STATCOM. For maintaining control of STATCOM, PWM technique is introduced. By using different approach, relative study has been performed concerning stabilization of wind farm (i.e. by means of bank capacitor only/STATCOM/STATCOM together with PID controller during wind speed change). STATCOM together with PID controller deals improved performance along with enhanced stability.
STATCOM and PID controller based stability enhancement of a grid connected wind farm Ajmayen Fayek, Shah Md. Salimullah, Md. Shakhawath Hossain, Rakib Hossain, Md. Shadman Hasan Shakib, et al. International Conference on Energy and Power Engineering Power for Progress Icepe 2019, 2019 Wind energy are drawing utmost importance in the research arena day by day as one of the renewable energy sources due to the limitation in conventional energy resources. But to stabilize the voltage harvested from wind energy has become a point of major concern. Different methodology are being adopted to mitigate this. In this study, grid-connected wind farm stability has been upgraded by mitigating voltage fluctuation and attaining reactive power compensation using Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). Voltage control loop with PID controller has been used to control STATCOM. A Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) method has been adopted as the control strategy of STATCOM. Different comparative study regarding stabilization of a wind farm has been performed using different approach (i.e. wind farm with capacitor bank and STATCOM or using STATCOM along with Proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller) during wind speed change. Comparison of result shows that STATCOM with PID controller offers better performance with enhanced stability.
A 63fs soliton pulse generation by compression of higher order soliton in linear dispersion decreasing fiber Shah Md. Salimullah, Mohammad Faisal, Md. Saddam Hossain, Md. Monir Ahamed, Md. Shakhawath Hossain 2nd IEEE International Conference on Telecommunications and Photonics Ictp 2017, 2017 A 2.05 m long linear dispersion decreasing fiber (LDDF) has been proposed for higher-order ultrashort soliton compression for nm-pm range soliton generation. We have obtained numerically ultrashort soliton of 63 fs after compression in LDDF. The spatial dimension has been found as 523.5 pm. Nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) has been solved using split-step Fourier (SSF) method for numerical analysis of ultrashort soliton propagation and compression. Such compressed pulse may have extensive applications in cancer cell treatment for creating smaller beam spot.
Optimum fiber profile for ultrashort pulse formation by higher-order soliton compression Shah Md. Salimullah, Mohammad Faisal, Md. Saddam Hossain, Md. Monir Ahamed, Md. Shakhawath Hossain, et al. 2nd IEEE International Conference on Telecommunications and Photonics Ictp 2017, 2017 Linear dispersion decreasing fiber (LDDF) profiles has been found nearly optimum in regards to the pulse width (63fs) of the compressed pulse. Based on ultrashort soliton compression a comparative study has been carried out among dispersion compensating fiber (DCF), fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and LDDF. Considering higher order effects compression of higher-order solitons, produces high-quality compressed pulses in femtosecond regime. Nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) has been solved using split-step Fourier (SSF) method for numerical analysis of ultrashort soliton propagation and compression.
Stability enhancement of a grid connected wind farm by using STATCOM M. R. I. Sheikh, M.S. Hossain, R. Hossain Iceee 2015 1st International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2016 As wind power is the fastest growing renewable energy, it is essential to determine problems associated with maintaining a stable power system when it is connected to grid. In this article a simple strategy is described to stabilize a grid-connected wind farm by controlling reactive power and minimizing voltage fluctuation using a simple 6-pulse Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). The STATCOM is controlled by using voltage control loop with PI controller and Pulse Width Modulation with carrier frequency of 9 times fundamental and varying dc voltage. This paper also presents a comparative study of stabilizing a wind farm using this STATCOM or using only a capacitor bank during wind speed change. Simulation results show that the wind farm could be more effectively stabilized by using STATCOM. The choice of this study is justified by simulation in PSCAD/EMTDC program.
