    Thaiszia Journal of Botany, 2024
The species composition and the floristic structure of afforestation belt vegetation of the Left-Bank Middle-Dnipro region of Ukraine were studied. The data was obtained during geobotanical studies of forest belts conducted in 2019–2021. A quantitative analysis of the taxonomic, biomorphological structure and diagnostic species proportions of vegetation classes is presented with a detailed analysis of the anthropophyte fraction. The studied vegetation has transitional features between anthropogenic forests and natural broad-leaved forests. On the one hand, we noted the predominance of native species in tree and shrub layers with a differentiated layer structure and the predominance of a competitive type of strategy. On the other hand, we have established a relatively poor or even monotypic species composition with a significant participation of indigenous synanthropic as well as alien species in the herbaceous layer. The studied forest belts represent a distinctive and quasi-stable type of forest vegetation that requires further syntaxonomic study.

    Ukrainian Botanical Journal, 2024
New localities of Aldrovanda vesiculosa and Utricularia minor, rare species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, are reported. The studied populations are located in Kyiv Region within Biloozerskyi National Nature Park (Left Bank Forest-Steppe). A significant distribution of A. vesiculosa was observed in the central marshy area of the park and that of U. minor — in four floodplains within the sedge-moss bogs in central and outer parts of the same area. Occurrence of numerous individuals and large populations of A. vesiculosa and U. minor in wetlands in the central part of Biloozerskyi National Nature Park indicate high conservation value of this area. According to the functional zoning scheme, these locations are classified as protected areas, with good prospects for survival and long-term existence of the species. Provided that the current level of irrigation of these wetlands is maintained, threats to the populations of these species can be considered insignificant. Thus there is an obvious need for long-term monitoring of the status of their populations.

    Biologicni Studii, 2024
Introduction. The assessment of the importance of individual areas for the conservation of European biodiversity relies on various criteria, one of which is the presence of threatened species of European significance. Recent botanical surveys have confirmed the proliferation of rare plants within the Divychky Emerald Network Area. Our research aims to conduct a phytosociological analysis and assess the ecological conditions of habitats hosting rare species in the Divychky Emerald Network Area (DENA) under protection at both national and international levels. Materials and Methods. We conducted a survey of the area and compiled lists of species, identifying those that are rare and protected at the European level. We visually assessed the vitality of populations and utilized synphytoindication method to characterize ecological aspects of habitats. Results. We compiled a list of species found within the Divychky Emerald network area, which includes those listed in both the European Red List and the Red Data Book of Ukraine. Phytoindicative assessment helped determine the range of individual environmental factors affecting these species. Discussion. The Divychky Emerald Network Area is home to endangered species of significant importance within Europe. In particular, there are habitats of nine species under protection of the Bern Convention, and two species included in the European Red List. We have compiled a list of species with protected status and assigned them to six vegetation classes in the plant community. The largest number of plants have been assigned to three vegetation classes. Our studies demonstrate how the types of reproduction affect the distribution and number of species – species with vegetative reproduction had the largest populations. The most vulnerable species populations were described, and information on the distribution and habitat of these species was provided. Conclusion. We have gathered new chorological and phytocoenotic data concerning the growth of protected plant species within the studied area of the Divychky Emerald Network Area. Species protected at the European level, along with their populations facing varying levels of extinction threat, have been identified and thoroughly studied.

    Ekologia Bratislava, 2023
Ecological analysis of the existing phytocoenological relevés was carried out, including the new localities of Thesium ebracteatum Hayne in the Middle Dnipro region. To study the coenotic features, the ratio of diagnostic species of different classes of vegetation in the communities was found. In the western part of the area, including the territory of Ukraine, this species grows in psamophytic communities, the basis of which is species of the Trifolio-Geranietea sanguinei class. In the eastern part of the area, including the territory of the Russian Federation, the species grows in steppe communities with a predominance of species of the Festuco-Brometea class. The analysis of ecological features of the species using the method of phytoindication showed the two clusters with the biggest differences by the acidity indicator. In the central part of Ukraine and in Europe, this species grows on soils with a higher acidity. On the contrary, in the eastern part of the area (territory of the Russian Federation), it mostly occurs on carbonate-enriched soils with low acidity. The growth of T. ebracteatum on more acidic soils in the western areas should be explained by a more humid climate.

A number of studies were undertaken in the territory of the “Syrovatka river basin of the Emerald Network of Ukraine (UA0000428 Syrovatka river basin). Based on the data gathered from field work surveys of the area, the characteristics of the habitats (C1.222, C1.224, C1.32, C1.33, C2.33+, С2.34, C3.4, C3.51, D5.2, E1.2, E2.2, E3.4, E5.4, F3.247, F9.1+G1.11, G1.21+G1.41, G1.A1, G1.7, G1.8, G1.A4) are presented according to the area covered and their ecological features. Phytosociological characteristics of habitats were given. As a result of the analysis of the distribution of certain species of sozophytes, a brief description of the status of the identified populations was presented. Populations of vascular plant species protected in Europe (Ostericum palustre, Iris hungarica), Ukraine (Epipactis helleborine, Lilium martagon, Platanthera bifolia), and at the regional level (Carpinus betulus, Campanula persicifolia, Calla palustris, Dryopteris cristata, Inula helenium, Utricularia vulgaris) have been studied in detail. The main threats to the existence of the natural complex of this area, which may appear in the situation of increasing economic impact are drainage and ploughing of floodplains, terracing, and afforestation of meadow-steppe slopes of the ravine. The typological characteristics of artificial and natural forest plantations of the territory were described based on the generalization of details gathered from information on their local management.

Environmental and Socio Economic Studies, 2022
We performed a study of the vegetation of afforestation belts in the Middle Dnipro Region of Ukraine. These were planted to protect agricultural land from adverse climatic conditions. The syntaxonomy of these afforestation belts is, so far, embedded in the synanthropic class of Robinietea tree plantations, but over time, these may need another syntaxonomic solution. Based on the data, a phytoindicational assessment of these communities was performed. The ecological features of the vegetation of afforestation belts have been determined by the mutual influence of ecological factors of different origin, and the extent of these impacts. In particular, the climatic conditions and edaphic factors and also the peculiarities of the environment-forming influence of different dominant tree species in the main layers and the age of these plantations, which determines at different stages of sylvestral succession processes. According to our phytoindicational assessment, use of cluster analysis of these biotopes of afforestation belts, proved their considerable similarity taking into account all ecological factors, and the distribution is mainly due to the predominant tree species. As a result of ordination analysis, it was found that the factors that most correlate with the ordinal axes are light regime, soil nitrogen and humidity. Phytocoenoses of afforestation belts are a very specific component of the forest biome in this region, because they have been artificially created.

    Ukrainian Botanical Journal, 2021
A new locality of Carex bohemica, a rare species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, is reported. The studied population is located in Kyiv Region within the Divychky site UA0000337 of the Emerald Network in Ukraine (Left-Bank Forest-Steppe). The territory housing the population forms a single contour covering two areas of different soil humidity values. On the area of 30 m2, 95 individuals of C. bohemica were discovered. At the time of observation, all individuals were of the generative age. The identified variants of plant communities with participation of C. bohemica belong to the class Phragmito-Magnocaricetea and are similar to the most communities with this species found in Ukraine. As a threat to existence of this population, increasing participation of alien invasive species-transformers and synanthropic species can be considered. Frequent fires occurring during drought periods also pose significant risks to the survival of this population. Further search for new localities of C. bohemica in the areas with suitable habitats is required.
