Students in academia are facing serious challenges such as engagement, which causes academicians to question the quality and effectiveness of the teaching pedagogy. As such, new adapted innovative technological tools such as gamifications have been introduced to learning activities experiences and skills acquisition. However, little is known about the implementation of such technologies, which have been relatively underexplored in education literature. The primary objective of this study is to identify the perceptions of students and evaluate their engagement considering the use of gamification in the learning process. There were 210 respondents enrolled in the private university in Jordan were surveyed using a quantitative questionnaire. The study used descriptive statistics and independent sample t-test analyses on the data. The results indicated that the students have positive perceptions of game-based technology in both learning and classroom activity engagement. In addition, student perceptions and engagement did not differ significantly based on age or gender, but significant differences based on user experience were identified. These findings provide insight into the dynamic interaction between students and gamified technology to enhance student perceptions and promote meaningful learning. This research also provides implications on gamification literacy education and the pedagogically rich design of educational games to enhance student engagement. The recommendations are enumerated based on the obtained findings.

This study aims to investigate the factors affecting students’ willingness to use gamification. To achieve this objective, a quantitative research method was used, and data were collected employing the survey technique. The sample of the study consisted of 105 university students in Jordan. The survey was structured to take into consideration the inclusion of students from different colleges and majors. The results indicated that perceived usefulness, normative beliefs and task-technology fit are the factors that have the most significant effect on students’ willingness to use gamification as a learning technique. Hopefully, the results of this study will help in formulating policies and in introducing a new technique to be used by both instructors and students, especially in the classroom setting. The study will also help determine the effectiveness of the technology apps used by university staff in Jordan.

Asian Journal of University Education, 2023
Implementation of modern technologies has been suggested to enhance student learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of student engagement in online learning with regards to teaching styles and computer self-efficacy. A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed using a survey method to collect data from 265 respondents in Jordan during the academic year 2022-2023. The results revealed that teaching styles significantly affect students' engagement in online learning while students’ computer self-efficacy does not have a significant impact. As there are only a few studies on factors that negatively impact student engagement in online learning settings, this study addresses the gap in literature on online learning environments. The results provide practical information for academic administrators, computer instructors, and students. Through highlighting the interplay between the various online variables and students’ engagement in Jordan, this study can assist stakeholders in designing professional development training sessions, programmes, or manuals to equip students and instructors with the necessary knowledge and skills related to integrating technology into their daily teaching and learning activities. The study recommends that future studies explore other personal, environmental and cognitive factors as well as involve larger samples of students from several public and private universities in Jordan.

Purpose The level of mental alertness among students who are in need of study in the preparatory year – Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University. The level of self-competence of female students who are in need of study in the preparatory year – Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University. To learn about the relationship between mental alertness and self-competence among students who are in need of study in the preparatory year – Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University. Design/methodology/approach The researchers used the experimental method by following the experimental design with two measurements, tribal and posterior, for two groups, one experimental and the other control, due to its suitability to the nature of this research. Research sample: the research community included female students stumbling in the scientific path of Rayyan, the second semester of the academic year 2020–2021 AD, where the researchers selected the research sample in a deliberate manner from the stalled students of 25 students and a random sample of 10 female students was withdrawn to conduct the exploratory study. The number of the basic research sample is 15 female students. Reasons for selecting the search sample: all of the sample members are female students stumbling in the scientific path of Al-Rayyan for the academic year 2020–2021 and all sample members agree to apply the research. Findings The researchers refer to this to the virtual psychological guidance program-specific objectives, as well as the follow-up of the scientific principles and principles and the legalization of the measurement tools used in the research and the diversity of the program within the parts of the program and the training sought to develop the ability to manage pressures and emotions and training in social skills, awareness and self-awareness and the use of exercises relaxation, breathing and modern self-help, as well as the use of different methods and techniques such as the method of dialogue, discussion, awareness of feelings and problem-solving, which led to a change in behavior and personal characteristics, which led to a change in behavior and personal characteristics, leading to the development of behavior and personal characteristics. Originality/value The study aims to design a hypothetical psychological counseling program as a method of health care and its effect on the level of mental alertness and the level of self-efficacy of students who have struggled to study at the Deanship of the preparatory year – Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal University. The researchers used the experimental approach and applied this study on a sample of 25 students from the students who failed to study at the Deanship of the preparatory year for the second semester of the academic year 2020–2021 AD and the most important results were that the psychological counseling program as a method of health care had a positive effect on improving the level of mental alertness and the level of self-efficacy among the students who had failed to study. There is a positive correlation between the level of mental alertness and self-efficacy of struggling students as a way of health care.
