Optimization of controller gains to enhance power quality of standalone wind energy conversion system Bochu Subhash, Veeramalla Rajagopal, Surender Reddy Salkuti International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2022 This article presents optimized gains for regulation of frequency and terminal voltage irrespective of the varying wind speeds in an autonomous wind power generation feeding linear and non-linear loads. Icosφ control algorithm is used to calculate and estimate reference source currents in a remote area wind energy conversion system (WECS) using an Induction Generator (IG). The Icosφ control algorithm do not have any phase locked loop or any conversions from one reference frame to other, which improves the dynamics and power system quality issues. The heart of the control algorithm is how quickly it estimates the reference source currents; this in turn depends on values of proportional and integral controller gains in the control algorithm. Here we are applying three optimization techniques to find the optimal proportional-integral (PI) controller output gains, the best convergence values are taken from optimization technique and applied for WECS. Battery energy storage system (BESS) connected to the direct current (DC) link of voltage source converter (VSC) manages the power of WECS. When load useful power level is less than the generated power level, the excess will be diverted and stored in the battery. But when generated power level is less than the load applied on WECS then the excess power requirement of the load is met by the battery, thus regulating the frequency under varying wind speeds. An isolated zigzag transformer is connected between point of common coupling and controller for neutral line current compensation. The controller is used for load balancing, current harmonic suppression, voltage and frequency regulation.
Control of DVR using SPLL strategy in distribution system J. Bangarraju, V. Rajagopal, V. Nagamalleswari, Sabha Raj Arya, B. Subhash 2016 IEEE 7th Power India International Conference Piicon 2016, 2017 This paper discuss control of DVR using SPLL (Software Phased Locked Loop) strategy for compensation of PQ disturbances in power DS (Distribution System) network. Using this control strategy, fundamental reference load voltages are estimated using magnitude of fundamental active and reactive components of source voltages. The SPLL strategy based DVR is modeled in MATLAB R2013b environment using SIMULINK to mitigate voltage related PQ Issues are sag/swell, unbalance and harmonics. The MATLAB based DVR model is used for simulation under dynamic and static conditions. Simulation performance of SPLL based DVR is found that satisfactory performance under time varying linear/non-linear loads.
Overview of smart metering system in Smart Grid scenario Bochu Subhash, V. Rajagopal 2014 Power and Energy Systems Conference Towards Sustainable Energy Pestse 2014, 2014 In Smart Grid, the smart meters are versatile role with intelligent capabilities in order to meet the consumer's demands and their each objective. Smart meter can measure and communicate detailed real time electricity usage, facilitate remote real time monitoring and control power consumptions and consumers are provided with real time pricing and analyzed usage information, which is a technical data to be transmitted to the grid, who are utility providers. More detailed feedback on each appliance to the user. In this connection Demand-side management (DSM) programs implemented by utility companies to control the energy consumption in residences appliances which are interfacing the digital meter with many DSM technical properties and Home energy management system is also implemented for the same cause. A simulation framework that can model a house equipped with various home appliances and the simulator can predict the power dissipation profiles of individual appliances as well as the cumulative energy consumption of the house in a realistic manner, in this process the harmonic pollutions in the electrical networks became one of the major factors affecting the power quality of the network which are detected and for which one of the techniques is two stage solutions for the harmonic analysis by Radial basis function in the neural network. Future smart grids will likely to be more tightly integrated with the cyber infrastructure for sensing, control, scheduling, dispatch, billing and cyber attacks can be detected by using smart meters and also ordering the power demand through online.
Optimal positioning of superconducting fault current limiter in smart grid applications K. Mahender, B. Subhash Asia Pacific Conference on Postgraduate Research in Microelectronics and Electronics, 2013 This paper presents a study to determine the optimal Location of a superconducting fault-current limiter (SFCL). The introduction of new generating facilities by independent power producers and increasing load demand can result in increased fault current. Due to the grid connection of the micro grids with the current power grids, excessive fault current is a serious problem to be solved for successful implementation of micro grids with SFCL. In this work a resistive superconducting fault current limiter designed. To reduce the fault current in the micro grid the designed SFCL placed in proposed system, which consists of a conventional power plant and 10MVA wind farm. The effect of SFCL on the micro grid, and optimal position for SFCL to get more reduction percentage of wind farm faults current.
