• An Optimal Family of Eighth-Order Methods for Multiple-Roots and Their Complex Dynamics
Sunil Kumar, Janak Raj Sharma, and Lorentz Jäntschi

MDPI AG
We present a new family of optimal eighth-order numerical methods for finding the multiple zeros of nonlinear functions. The methodology used for constructing the iterative scheme is based on the approach called the ‘weight factor approach’. This approach ingeniously combines weight functions to enhance convergence properties and stability. An extensive convergence analysis is conducted to prove that the proposed scheme achieves optimal eighth-order convergence, providing a significant improvement in efficiency over lower-order methods. Furthermore, the applicability of these novel methods to some real-world problems is demonstrated, showcasing their superior performance in terms of speed and accuracy. This is illustrated through a series of three examples involving basins of attraction with reflection symmetry, confirming the dominance of the new methods over existing counterparts. The examples highlight not only the robustness and precision of the proposed methods but also their practical utility in solving the complex nonlinear equations encountered in various scientific and engineering domains. Consequently, these eighth-order methods hold great promise for advancing computational techniques in fields that require the resolution of multiple roots with high precision.

Pawan Vankhede and Sunil Kumar

IEEE
This study examines the application of predictive analytics to user behavior analysis on websites, with a particular emphasis on a dataset of customer behavior from e-commerce. To forecast behavioral patterns, the study will apply the random forest method. Additionally, exploratory data analysis (EDA) will be carried out to extract insights from the dataset. The dataset employed in this study includes a variety of factors, such as purchase history, browsing habits, and consumer demographics, among other pertinent data. The research attempts to derive useful insights that can improve the comprehension and prediction of user behavior on the website by utilizing predictive analytics approaches. In this study, the random forest algorithm which is well-known for its capacity to manage intricate datasets and generate precise predictions is employed. The method builds several decision trees and combines their predictions to produce more reliable and accurate outcomes by utilizing ensemble learning. Predicting different aspects of user behavior, including browsing patterns, chance of making a purchase, and customer segmentation, is the aim. When paired with the insights from EDA, the outcomes of the behavioral analysis prediction made with the random forest algorithm can provide e-commerce companies with useful data. Gaining insight into user behavior can help with customer engagement, website design optimization, personalization, and overall user experience enhancement.

American Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS)

Using a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method combined with a Taguchi (<inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">\\begin{document}$ L_{16} $\\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula>) design of experiment, the wear parameter for CrN/TiAlSiN coated hardened DAC-10 tool steel is optimized. Temperature, sliding velocity, applied load, and sliding distance together forms the wear parameter. Wear rate, friction coefficient, surface roughness, wear depth, and worn surface hardness were all tested to see how it affected by the wear parameters. The criteria weight was derived using the best-worst method (BWM) and combined with the Multi-Attributive Border Approximation area Comparison (MABAC) approach to rank the alternatives. The obtained data were then subjected to sensitivity testing using three-phase techniques. The suggested MCDM technique was validated through all phases of sensitivity analysis, with alternative <inline-formula><tex-math id="M2">\\begin{document}$ {WP}_6 $\\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> (T = 100 <inline-formula><tex-math id="M3">\\begin{document}$ ^{\\circ} $\\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula>C, Sv = 0.05 m/s, L = 5 N, and Sd = 2000 m) showing as the best alternative. Furthermore, the proposed method BWM-MABAC was tested on previously published outcomes, and the results showed an excellent correlation between present and past studies, with a rank correlation coefficient value of greater than 0.99.

Thomas Telford Ltd.
This study investigated the relative effects of tribological process parameters and their optimization for wear responses of a TiAlN thin film deposited on heat-treated and plasma-nitrided novel MDC-K hot work tool steel. The effects of tribological process parameters were studied by conducting a tribological test on the TiAlN thin film against a tungsten carbide (WC) counterbody. The researchers considered three tribological process parameters – namely, sliding velocity, applied load and sliding distance – to conduct the tribological test and study the effect of the parameters on five different wear responses – namely, friction coefficient, surface roughness (R a), wear depth, wear mass loss and hardness. The relative effects of the process parameters were studied using contour plots, and the individual effects and contributions were analyzed using an analysis of variance test. Further, the overall evaluation criteria method was employed to select the optimal settings of tribological process parameters based on the experimental results. Finally, the surface morphology of the worn TiAlN surface against the best and worst parametric settings was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy integrated with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy to investigate the underlying wear mechanisms.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) was deposited by plasma spraying technique with TiSiN adhesive interlayer on the medical-grade 316 LVM stainless steel. The surface topographies of HAp and HAp/TiSiN were evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The important mechanical properties of the films such as hardness ([Formula: see text]) and elastic modulus ([Formula: see text]) were determined by the nanoindentation test. Lastly, the adhesion and anti-scratch behaviors of the films were evaluated by Rockwell-C indentation and nanoscratch test, respectively. The elemental analysis showed the values of Ca/P (at.%/at.%) ratio to be 1.80 and 1.59 in HAp and HAp/TiSiN coatings, respectively. The mechanical properties of HAp film with TiSiN interlayer were greatly improved from 1.23[Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text]0.26[Formula: see text]GPa to 10.6[Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text]1.12[Formula: see text]GPa for hardness and from 18[Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text]3[Formula: see text]GPa and 29.8[Formula: see text][Formula: see text] 5[Formula: see text]GPa for elastic modulus, respectively. The results of the Rockwell-C indentation test showed a significant reduction in HAp coating delamination with TiSiN interlayer which can be categorized with HF2 or HF3 Daimler–Benz quality ranking. What is more, the nanoscratch profile of HAp coating showed wider scratch with evidence of deformation at the edges which got significantly reduced with the TiSiN interlayer. The results are suggestive of improved mechanical properties, viz. hardness and elastic modulus, and improved adhesion strength of HAp coating with TiSiN interlayer.

MDPI AG
The life of metal forming dies and the efficiency of tooling industries depends on the mechanical and wear properties of tool steel. These properties can be further improved by depositing the ceramic coating on heat-treated tool steel. Numerous coating materials with various excellent features are already available commercially; however, the selection of the best coating material is still an immense challenge for users. Compared to various studies related to material selection problems in the contrasting area of utilization, remarkably, little research work has been done in tooling industries. In the present work, we have identified eight coating materials (alternatives) and nine evaluation criteria under the consultation of an expert in the tooling application and tribological field. To deal with this coating material selection problem, an integrated fuzzy-multi attributed decision-making method is proposed which comprises best worst method and fuzzy-Measurement Alternatives and Ranking according to the Compromise Solution method. This integrated fuzzy- multi attributed decision-making method is used to evaluate the alternatives, and the obtained results were scrutinized via utilizing various sensitivity analysis procedures. In the first phase of analysis, seven scenarios of criteria weight change were used, which was derived by the best-worst method; dynamic matrices are used in the second phase of analysis. In the third and fourth phases, obtained ranks were compared with those obtained by different weight calculation methods and ranking methods, respectively. In the present study, AlCrN/TiAlN coating (alternative Cm5) was found to be the best coating material based on the results obtained after sensitivity analysis. Further, in this study, we have proposed a novel method that helps to solve the coating material selection problem or any kind of selection complications.
