    The application of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is recognized as one of the most proficient techniques for detecting and profiling toxic metals across various matrices. In this review, different classes of FTIR, its role in monitoring the presence and concentration of toxic metals in food matrices is critically discussed. It explores recent advancements and innovations that have markedly enhanced the sensitivity, resolution, and specificity of methodologies based on FTIR techniques. Importantly, it highlights the application of FTIR for monitoring toxic metals in different food items, where contamination poses serious public health challenges. Advanced FTIR methodologies, including integration with chemometric models and hybrid analytical systems, are discussed in detail for their contributions to improving detection limits and analytical precision. In addition, a comparative analysis is presented between FTIR and other frequently utilized analytical methodologies such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), accentuating FTIR’s advantages in relation to sample preparation, operational efficacy, and environmental sustainability. This review underscores FTIR’s growing relevance in regulatory and quality control frameworks and its future potential in safeguarding public health through toxic metal monitoring.     The textile industry is experiencing rapid growth and plays a significant role in the global economy, offering widespread employment opportunities. However, the increasing contamination of ecosystems caused by industrial effluents has raised serious environmental concerns. Addressing these issues is essential to ensure sustainable growth in the sector. This chapter highlights the rising importance of sustainable biotechnology in textile agriculture, focusing on its environmental and economic advantages. It underscores a shift toward bio-based agro-textiles and sustainable practices such as agroforestry to reduce the ecological impact of conventional methods. The discussion centers on the industry’s sustainability challenges and the urgent need for innovative, eco-friendly solutions. Key environmental issues explored in this chapter include water consumption, pesticide use, soil degradation, greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity loss related to textile agriculture. It also covers sustainable approaches like wastewater treatment using microorganisms and multi-omics tools, as well as molecular docking applications for pesticide development, enzyme engineering, bioremediation, and the development of biodegradable textiles.

    The bio-inspired synthesis of microbial cellulose (MC) and its potential applications in textile technology have gained increasing attention in recent years. This chapter provides an overview of recent advances in MC production. It looks at the variables influencing cellulose synthesis, such as pH, temperature, and nutrient content. It explores the many techniques for growing MC, such as static and agitated culture systems. As a sustainable replacement for conventional textiles, MC offers improved properties such as absorption, dyeability, tensile strength, biocompatibility, and breathability. The prospects and difficulties in this industry are also covered, and the use of MC in various textile products, including apparel, technical textiles, and textiles for medical purposes, is also discussed.

    Technology advancements so far have shown an accelerated and significant track record towards one of the major goals of current society i.e., sustainable development. Adding new technology and upgrading the existing ones are the two important ways to achieve the same. Considering the current environmental situation, food safety aspects to provide a healthy way to living beings is important in order to maintain the balance in the ecosystem. The pollution level spike is no longer a threat, it became an adverse situation that the scientific community talked about years back. Monitoring pollutant levels and conducting research on next-generation solutions is the utmost priority of current environmentalists, food scientists, and associate authorities. One such pollutant is the group of toxic elements (Cd, Pb, Cr, Hg, Sr, etc.). Optimizing extraction and analytical techniques is a crucial aspect when it comes to accurate, reliable, and timely updation of contaminant levels in various geographical areas, food, and water etc. The current review discussed various techniques for analyte preparation techniques aligning with the AAS, ICP-MS/OES, and other hyphenated techniques-based analysis. The need for such optimized technology adaptation, novel applications in recent years, and the future scope have been critically reviewed. The findings suggest that continued advancements in analytical methodologies are imperative for enhancing detection accuracy, improving regulatory compliance, and mitigating the impact of toxic elements contamination on public health and the environment. Continued improvements in analytical methodologies will be essential for enhancing detection accuracy, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and mitigating the impact of toxic elements contamination on public health and the environment. Policymakers should prioritize investment in sustainable extraction technologies, enforce stricter contamination thresholds, and support research on innovative detection methods to ensure long-term environmental and health safety.
