The research clinical and instrumental methods of examination of athletes related to the process of intervertebral disk degeneration and stenosis Valeria Tyshchenko, Tymur Ksenzov, Tetiana Odynets, Tetiana Bogoslav, Artur Ksenzov, et al. Wiadomosci Lekarskie Warsaw Poland 1960, 2024 AimTo determine the level structure of the graph model of the system of clinical and instrumental indicators of athletes with herniated intervertebral discs complicated by spinal stenosis, and to determine the regression model for these indicators.Material and methodsThis observational study involved 64 athletes (14 – rugby players, 16 – handball players, 15 – basketball players, 19 – football players) with intervertebral disc herniation, complicated by stenosis of spinal canal. Research methods: visual method to evaluate the likelihood of a data set's normal distribution; correlation and regression analysis; method for determining the ordinal function of a graph through the application of an adjacency matrix, specifically utilizing Demucron's algorithm. This process is accompanied using a topological sorting of the graph.ResultsThe results showed the lack of correlation between age and VAS, muscle strength and VAS, as well as VAS and the channel space; little feedback between age and the channel space; weak positive relationship between size of herniated intervertebral disc had a with the length of the illness. The data showed, strong feedback was observed for hernia size and the channel space, hernia size and muscle strength, the channel space, and length of the illness.ConclusionsThe evaluation on the complexity and depth of the interconnections between clinical and instrumental metrics in athletes was conducted. The hierarchical organization within the graphical representation was ascertained. A predictive regression model delineating the correlations between clinical and instrumental variables in patients suffering from herniated intervertebral discs, with the complication of spinal canal stenosis was established.
Comparative effectiveness of Yoga and Pilates intervention on respiratory function of patients with breast cancer Tetiana Odinets, Yuriy Briskin, Nataliia Leshchii, Valeria Tyshchenko, Oksana Ikkert, et al. Revista Andaluza De Medicina Del Deporte, 2022 Objective: Most modern breast cancer treatments are shown to be effective in terms of survival but lead to side effects such as dysfunction of the upper limb, lymphedema, pain syndrome, plexitis, сardiotoxicity, fatigue, and pulmonary complications. Applied radiotherapy enhances the number of side effects that patients with breast cancer experience over a long period. The aim of this study was to compare effectiveness of Hatha Yoga and Pilates interventions on respiratory function in patients with breast cancer. Methods: 95 women completed the interventions and were included in the final analysis. The participants, staged I-II, were randomly assigned to 2 groups. Group A (n = 48, 57.53 ± 1.92 years) received Hatha Yoga intervention and group B (n = 47, 58.00 ± 1.27 years) received Pilates intervention. Both programs were conducted for 12 weeks, with three 60-min sessions per week. Spirometry was used to measure pre- and post-intervention functional capacity of the respiratory system. Results: Significant differences (p<0.05) were found in Vital Capacity, Forced Vital Capacity, Peak Expiratory Flow, Maximum Expiratory Flow25, Expiratory Reserve Volume and Maximal Voluntary Ventilation in Hatha Yoga group compared with Pilates group. There was no significant difference between both groups in Force Expiratory Volume and Maximum Expiratory Flow50 (p>0,05) Conclusions: Hatha Yoga and Pilates interventions are both effective in respiratory function, but Hatha Yoga turns out more beneficial.
