    E. Thirumurugan, Sai lakshmi D, Archana Devi K S, Swetha V, Glady Cormel A, Sasidharan T, Divya Dharshini T, Mohana Priya S, Girish P
Journal of Cardiac Critical Care, 2025
Objectives Heart rate variability (HRV) is a non-invasive metric to assess the psycho-physiological fluctuations in the temporal intervals between successive heartbeats. This measure offers valuable insights into the dynamic equilibrium between the activities of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. In the academic setting, stress can negatively impact psychological well-being, potentially resulting in emotional distress and reduced cognitive function and learning abilities. Failure to seek treatment for an extended period may result in irreversible changes in autonomic functions, leading to significant alterations in cardiovascular health. The primary aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of yoga and sports activities on cardiac autonomic function in adolescents who are experiencing anxiety. Materials and Methods The interventional study occurred at the Department of Allied Health Science in a private medical college and hospital in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The study included forty adolescent students (aged 19–24) with reported anxiety that attended a paramedical college and had no previous exposure to yoga and sports activities. Results Significant differences were identified across several parameters within the yoga group following eight sessions, notably in standard deviation of the normal-to-normal intervals (SDNN), mean RR interval, mean heart rate, root mean square of successive differences between successive normal heartbeats, MxDMN, and pNN50. The yoga group demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in SDNN parameters compared to baseline measurements after the eighth session, which strongly suggests an enhanced capacity for stress management attributable to the yoga interventions. In contrast, the sports group did not exhibit any significant changes in SDNN, mean RR interval, or MxDMN, as P-values remained above the threshold of 0.05. Conclusion The research identified a notable enhancement in cardiac autonomic function, signifying that Yoga positively influences an individual’s overall health.

  • Cardiac Catheterization Education for Paramedical Courses in India: Does the Cardiovascular Technology Course Curriculum Need to Be Updated?
    E. Thirumurugan
Journal of Cardiac Critical Care, 2024
The onus of providing healthcare is no longer solely on physicians and nurses but also on paramedical staff, paraprofessionals, and health technicians, who all have an essential role to play in delivering health services. However, unlike medical and dental programs in the country, paramedical courses lack a uniform syllabus. Consequently, some universities or colleges offer cardiac catheterization education to Bachelor of Science in Cardiovascular Technology students, while others do not. So, it is essential that paramedical students receive a comprehensive cardiac catheterization curriculum to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver services proficiently in both hospital and community settings.

Journal of Cardiac Critical Care, 2024
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a diagnostic tool that can identify heart conditions and offer valuable information about electrical activity and age-related changes. Our primary concern is studying ECG changes related to age, gender, and body mass index (BMI) for the benefit of researchers and clinicians. A comprehensive search for relevant literature was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases. The selection criteria were limited to original papers published between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2022, that were deemed eligible. We executed a meticulous selection process that involved eliminating duplicates, screening abstracts and full texts, and manually adding some articles. During the full-text screening process, we excluded articles that were not relevant to our study. Ultimately, we included only nine observational studies that fulfilled our eligibility criteria. Our primary objective was to determine the factors that influence the ECG pattern in children and adolescents. This review systematically highlights the significance of identifying ECG patterns that could be correlated to factors such as age, gender, and BMI. Identifying such patterns may play a crucial role in improving the diagnostic accuracy of ECG. Physicians who fail to recognize these patterns may mistakenly endanger their patients’ lives.

    Iraqi Journal of Hematology, 2024
BACKGROUND: Blood donation is an essential global need far outweighs the available supply, rendering it a scarce and valuable resource. Within India, blood transfusion services hold significant importance and constitute a crucial aspect of the national health-care framework. Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donation (VNRBD) is deemed the safest among the various ways of donating blood. The student population of educational institutions across the country, particularly those who are young and physically fit, represents one of the most promising sources of blood donations. The aim of the study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and donation practices of medical college students and motivate them to embrace voluntary blood donation as a regular habit. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The Department of Allied Health Science at Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, conducted a questionnaire survey from March 2023 to October 2023. Two thousand and two hundred forty students were invited to participate, with 2331 ultimately willing to partake. The gathered data underwent analysis using the SPSS Statistics software, version 20, with a significance level fixed at a P = 5%. RESULTS: The study included 2331 participants, comprising 840 males (36%) and 1491 females (64%). The age range of the participants was between 17 and 25 years, with a mean age of 18.9 ± 1.3 years. Out of 2331 participants, the majority (66.7%) showed sufficient knowledge with 9 or more correct answers, while the rest (33.2%) showed below-average knowledge. CONCLUSION: The Tamil Nadu Health Professions Colleges possess the potential to make a noteworthy impact on the promotion of blood donation. According to a recent survey, students express a keen interest in donating blood if a camp is organized on the campus. By organizing awareness campaigns and conducting informative sessions, the colleges can inspire and motivate more students to donate blood, thereby playing a vital role in saving lives.

    E. Thirumurugan, K. Gomathi, P. Swathy, Syed Ali Afrin, R. Karthick
    Indian Heart Journal, 2023
AIM: To assess the safety, efficiency, and device compatibility of the Second Generation Robotic System. METHODS: Data on Robot-Assisted PCI (R-PCI) is frequently insufficient in India. Many articles were published in national, non-indexed journals that are not available online and are difficult to obtain. Recognizing these constraints, the current review is intended to compile the available data on this important new innovation technique. This review could encourage future research and serve as a valuable source of information. RESULTS/CONCLUSION: In terms of procedure efficiency, operator radiation reduction, and safety, the recent implementation and development of second-generation robotic systems have had a significant impact on interventional cardiology. This technology will play a significant role in the future of interventional cardiology as advancements eliminate the need for manual assistance, improve devices compatibility, and expand the use of robotics for telestenting procedures. A larger study demonstrating the safety and feasibility of tele-stenting over greater geographic distances, as well as addressing fundamental technical difficulties, would be required before attempting R-PCI.
  • Emerging Perspectives of Anatomical snuff box in Invasive Cardiology
Thirumurugan E, Gomathi K, Swathy P, Syed Ali Afrin
    Journal of Geriatric Cardiology, 2023
n 1948, a surgical cut-down was used to access the radial artery and described the first method of cardiac catheterization using the radial artery. This method transitioned from the Sones approach of brachial artery cut-down to the Seldinger and Judkins technique of percutaneous femoral artery access. [1]The first 100 cases of coronary angiography were published in 1989.Lucien Campeau invented this procedure at the Montreal Heart Institute in 1986. [2]Advances in technology and equipment have made transradial coronary intervention the primary technique for coronary interventional treatment worldwide. [3]Radial access is less likely to cause access-site bleeding and is more comfortable for patients than femoral access. [4]According to a 2017 Kiemeneij study, left distal radial artery cannulation is a novel, safe, and valuable technique. This innovative method can help with several right distal radial artery cannulation issues. [5]This perspective outlines the feasibility and safety of left versus right anatomical snuff box in interventional cardiology.
