  • Factors Determining Labour Absorption in Agriculture in Different Agro-Climatic Regions of Rajasthan
    P. Mishra
    Economic Affairs New Delhi, 2023
"This present study was carried out to examine and analyse the factors determining the labour absorption in agriculture in different agro-climatic regions of Rajasthan with state as a whole. Both primary and secondary data were used for this study. 200 respondents from 10 villages were collected for primary data during year of 2018-2019 and secondary data were used of published data from different reports and publications. The findings were showed that farm size has a significant negative relationship with total labour absorption in all agro-climatic regions at the state level except the transitional plain region. The cropping intensity showed a positive association with the total labour utilization in arid western and northern region, transitional plain regions, semi-arid and flood-prone eastern plain and humid south and eastern plain region. The per hectare absorption of tractor hours was displayed a significant negative relationship with the total labour utilization in all the agro-climatic regions with the state level. Expenditure on animal feeds showed a significant positive association with the total human labour utilization in all the agro-climatic regions with the state level except semi-arid and flood-prone eastern plain region. It was observed that the total labour utilization showed a significantly positive relationship with irrigation intensity in arid western and northern region and humid south and eastern plain region. Unemployment of agricultural labourers has negative impact on their income, consumption expenditure and savings. So, there is need to create additional income opportunities for agricultural labourers."
  • Statistical Analysis of Price Behaviour of Pearl Millet in Rajasthan
SUMAN CHAUDHARY, Madhu Sharma, Om Prakash, Vikash Pawariya
    Annals of Arid Zone, 2023
In view of this the present study was undertaken by collecting monthly wholesale prices of pearl millet in Rajasthan. This study was based on the secondary data on arrival and prices of pearl millet in selected A.P.M.Cs., of Rajasthan for the period of 11 years i.e., from 2010-11 up to 2020-21. In the analysis it was revealed that there was an increasing trend in the prices of pearl millet in the all selected mandies. Yearly price of pearl millet in all selected mandies, there was not a clear cyclical movement visible. It is evident from the results that the irregular fluctuations did not exhibit any definite periodicity in their recurrence. There was similarity in seasonality of prices in Alwar and Barmer mandies but there were difference and much variations in prices of pearl millet over months in Jaipur mandi. It was observed that pearl millet arrival pattern was almost similar in all selected mandies which was higher just after the harvesting and lower during lean period. Looking to IPR and ASPV, there was much variability in prices in Barmer mandi while coefficient of variation was highest in Jaipur mandi.
  • The Relationship between Financial Development and Inflation Rate in Egypt
    Abdullah Mohammad Ghazi Al khatib
Indian Journal of Economics and Development, 2023
This study investigated the relationship between financial development and inflation in Egypt from 1980-2018. The study employed various econometric techniques, such as Johansen's test for co-integration, error correction model, Granger's causality test, Toda-Yamamoto causality test, and dynamic ordinary least squares model. The findings indicated that financial development had not significantly reduced inflation in Egypt over the studied period. Additionally, inflation was an obstacle to the country's financial development. The results also suggested a long-term equilibrium relationship between financial development and inflation, which is unidirectional and runs from inflation to financial development. The results revealed that the inflation rate, economic growth, exchange rate, and trade openness jointly impact financial development in the short and long term. It implied that the past values of these variables could be used to predict the current and future values of financial development. However, it was not possible to use the financial development index to predict the inflation rate in Egypt in the short and long term.
  • Estimation of seasonal surplus labour in agriculture in different agro-climatic regions of Rajasthan
Arjun Singh Rajput, Latika Sharma, P S Shekhawat, Vikash Pawariya
    Environment Conservation Journal, 2022
The present investigation was undertaken with a view to estimate the total surplus labour in agriculture to get an idea of how far agriculture provides employment to those who are fully engaged in it. The author then estimates the extent of surplus labour which is removable and the extent of seasonal surplus labour in different agro-climatic regions of Rajasthan as well as state as a whole. For this study, the primary data were collected from 200 households of 10 villages during 2018- 2019 and secondary data were used from census 2011. The results showed that there exists the total surplus labour ranging from 49.45 % in arid western and northern plain region to 80.13 % in semi-arid and flood prone region with the state level estimate of 68.33 % of labour availability. It was estimated that at the state level seasonal surplus labour is 10.51 % of the labour availability. Across the regions, the seasonal surplus labour ranges from 5.93 % in sub-humid and humid southern plain region to 19.61 % in arid western and northern plain region. This cause the unemployment, lower productivity of labour and migration of labour. To overcome such type of problems initiative to integrate MGNREGA with agriculture, create additional income opportunities for agricultural labourers, entrepreneurship training, small scale industries, and establishment of agri-business units.
