International Journal of Modern Physics C, 2026
In this study, the removal of H2S was investigated using hollow fiber membrane contactors (HFMCs). The absorbent fluid was a nanofluid containing carbon nanotubes, which was added to the absorbent fluid to enhance H2S absorption. After the modeling and model validation of the HFMC, the nanofluid effect on the H2S separation performance was discussed. A 2D HFMC model was considered, and COMSOL software was used for the model’s numerical solution. In the following, gas and nanofluid concentration distribution, velocity development profile in the membrane tube side, pressure drop in the tube side, the effect of gas flow rate on H2S removal, the effect of hollow fiber number and the effect of liquid flow rate on H2S removal were investigated. The results showed that adding the nanofluid to the absorbent fluid led to a significant increase in H2S absorption in all cases. Additionally, the results indicated that increasing the gas flow rate and decreasing the absorbent fluid flow rate could result in a decrease in H2S removal. The investigation of pressure variations in the absorption process from 1 to 10 bar also showed a slight increase in H2S removal (approximately 5%). Furthermore, the conversion of the conventional fluid to the nanofluid resulted in an approximately 40% increase in H2S removal. - Application of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) in membrane technology for oil separation; A review study

International Journal of Thermofluids, 2025
Freshwater scarcity remains a persistent challenge in arid and coastal regions, necessitating cost-effective and energy-efficient desalination solutions. This study presents an experimental performance evaluation of a pyramid-shaped solar still (PSS) enhanced with porous fillers cocopeat and wood charcoal to improve distillate productivity. The PSS, fabricated with a black-coated stainless-steel basin and insulated with thermocol and foam, was operated using both tap and saline water under coastal climatic conditions. Incorporation of fillers significantly improved the thermal regime and overall yield compared to the base model. The charcoal–saline water configuration exhibited the best performance, achieving a daily distillate yield of 950 mL and a thermal efficiency of 23.17%, representing a 34% enhancement over the base saline-water case (17.3%). Cocopeat improved heat retention but resulted in slower evaporation and lower yield. The enhanced absorptivity of charcoal promoted higher basin water temperature and better energy utilization. All configurations produced very soft distillate (10–20 mg/L as CaCO₃), meeting WHO potable water standards. The findings demonstrate that low-cost filler materials, particularly wood charcoal, can significantly augment the thermal and distillation efficiency of PSS, highlighting their suitability for decentralized desalination in resource-constrained regions. - Impurity-induced gamma radiolytic production of hydrogen, deuterium, and oxygen in nuclear reactors

Journal of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, 2024
This study presents a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of two-phase flow patterns in a Y-shaped microfluidic device. The two-phase flow of water and n-butyl acetate is simulated using the volume of fluid (VOF) method in a Y-shaped microfluidic device with different flow rates. A 2D model was used for simulation, and the results were compared to experimental data, showing good consistency. The study also examined the effects of organic (n-butyl acetate) and flow on the overall flow model. The authors observe three different flow patterns, including slug flow, parallel flow, and droplet flow, depending on the flow rate. The results indicate that a slug flow pattern is detected when the flow rates of the aqueous and organic phases are both low and similar. Nonetheless, as the overall flow rate rises, the slug flow pattern shifts to either parallel droplet or plug flow. Similarly, when the flow rate of the aqueous phase is increased while keeping the organic phase flow rate constant, the shift occurs from slug flow to droplet flow. Therefore, this study is significant in providing insights into the different flow regimes that can occur in a microfluidic system. This understanding can be used to design and optimize microfluidic devices for a variety of applications. - Effect of Chamfered Turbulators on Performance of Solar Air Heater - Numerical Study

Cfd Letters, 2024
This paper presents a numerical analysis of the thermal performance improvement in a flat plate solar air heater equipped with chamfered turbulators attached below the absorber plate for evaluating performance for Reynolds numbers ranging from 3,000 to 21,000. According to the research, chamfered turbulators caused the flow to become highly turbulent. This flow behaviour with flow separation around the turbulators positively affects performance. This paper attempts to explain the complex flow behaviour found during the analysis. The turbulator diameter varies in 1 mm increments from 3 to 7 mm at a constant longitudinal pitch of 200 mm. The number of turbulator rows in the transverse direction is kept constant at three. The chamfer is represented by the flow attack angle, which can be 30°, 45°, or 60° facing the direction of flow and opposing the direction of flow. The results showed that a 7mm diameter turbulator with a 30° chamfer angle placed against the flow of air yielded a considerably more significant thermal enhancement factor of 1.15 over the spectrum of flow Reynolds number studied - Optimized Q-cascade approach for stable cadmium isotope purification using Newton-Raphson and direct substitution methods
Radiation Physics and Engineering, 2024 - Numerical investigation of thermal-hydraulic performance enhancement in helical coil heat exchangers with twisted tube geometries
Valiyollah Ghazanfari, Mohammad Mahdi Shadman, Fatemeh Mansourzade, Younes Amini
Case Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2024
This numerical study examines the thermal-hydraulic performance of helical coil heat exchangers (HCHEs) using twisted tubes versus conventional circular tubes. The effects of Reynolds number (Re = 10,000 to 100,000), pitch length (11, 7.2, 5.5, 3.6 mm), and twisted tube orientation (co-current, counter-current) on heat transfer efficiency and pressure drop were investigated. The results show that higher Reynolds numbers can reduce the Resistance factor by approximately 25 % and improve heat transfer by approximately 35 %. An optimal pitch length of 5.5 mm was found to balance enhanced heat transfer and manageable pumping costs. Twisted tubes demonstrate significant performance advantages at lower Re, with 20–33 % higher Performance Evaluation Criterion (PEC) values compared to circular tubes. However, the benefit diminishes at higher Re, with less than 10 % PEC increase. Implementing counter-current twisted tube configurations leads to approximately 13 % higher Nusselt number and 11 % higher Resistance factor, resulting in a 10 % overall PEC improvement. These findings highlight the superior thermal-hydraulic performance of twisted tubes in HCHE applications, especially at lower Reynolds numbers. Future work could explore different fluids, advanced optimization, energy analysis, cost assessment, and additional geometric parameters to further enhance twisted tube heat exchanger design and performance. - A comprehensive study on the kinetics and isotherms of D2/H2 adsorptive separation using pure and composite Cu-BDC-NH2 MOFs at 77 K

Case Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2024
This study investigates the influence of nanofluids on heat exchanger efficiency using 3-D computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The objective is to optimize the performance of twisted tubes by analyzing various pitch lengths (P = 180, 135, 90, 67.5, and 45 mm). The method's accuracy is validated by comparing experimental and numerical data from previous studies. The analysis focuses on key parameters such as heat transfer factors, outlet temperatures, and pressure drops, encompassing a wide range of flow rates (0.5 kg/s to 2 kg/s). The findings demonstrate that using nanofluids in twisted tubes significantly enhances heat transfer while slightly increasing pressure drop. Specifically, when compared to the smooth tube device with six baffles, employing 0.1 vol% Cu and 0.15 vol% Al2O3 nanoparticles in the twisted tube with a pitch length of 45 mm leads to heat transfer improvements of 1.04 and 1.12 times, respectively. Moreover, eliminating baffles favoring the optimized twisted tube configuration results in a notable reduction in pressure drop by approximately 1.55 times. These results highlight the potential of nanofluid implementation in enhancing heat exchanger efficiency and offer valuable insights for designing and optimizing heat transfer systems in various industrial applications. - Ce(ΙΙΙ) and La(ΙΙΙ) ions adsorption through Amberlite XAD-7 resin impregnated via CYANEX-272 extractant
