Theoretical and Methodological Basis of Mapping the Ecological State of Irrigated Lands in the Conditions of Climate Change: Bibliometric Analysis Rahimjon Makhsudov, Yakhshimurad Khudaybergenov, Kuatbay Bekanov, Judit Csabai, Rashid Jaksibaev, et al. International Archives of the Photogrammetry Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences ISPRS Archives, 2025 The ecological state of irrigated lands is becoming increasingly complex under the influence of climate change and growing anthropogenic pressures. In this study, an integrated approach was applied to assess and map the ecological condition of irrigated lands by combining geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing data, and field-based observations. Particular attention was paid to identifying and analyzing critical issues such as soil salinization, depletion of water resources, and overall agroecosystem degradation, which together threaten agricultural productivity and sustainability. The results of the research provide a scientific basis for identifying priority areas where ecological monitoring should be strengthened, while also highlighting opportunities for sustainable resource management. Based on these findings, practical recommendations were developed to optimize irrigation systems, improve water-use efficiency, and reduce environmental risks. These measures, grounded in modern geotechnologies, are expected to contribute to the long-term resilience of irrigated agriculture and the protection of fragile agroecosystems.
Applying the ELSA Framework to Assess Ecosystem Vulnerability in Wetlands of the Aral Sea Region P. Reymov, Yakhshimurad Khudaybergenov, V. Statov, N. Mamutov E3s Web of Conferences, 2024 Wetlands are vital ecosystems that provide numerous ecological services, including water purification, flood control, and wildlife habitat. However, wetlands are under threat due to human activities and climate change. Accurate mapping and monitoring of wetlands are crucial for effective conservation and management. Remote sensing techniques have revolutionized wetland mapping by providing detailed and up-to-date information on wetland extent, vegetation composition, and hydrological patterns. Wetlands play a crucial role in global ecosystems, providing numerous ecological services such as flood control, water purification, and habitat for diverse flora and fauna. Monitoring of the wetland dynamics are essential for effective conservation and sustainable management. This research paper provides a detailed examination of recent advances in remote sensing research of wetlands, focusing on the utilization of inventory geoecological mapping. Wetland ecosystems are dynamic and sensitive to environmental changes, making their monitoring a challenging but imperative task. Remote sensing technologies offer a unique opportunity to observe and analyze wetland characteristics at various scales. We explore the use of remote sensing in wetlands mapping, highlighting its benefits, challenges, and future prospects with a special emphasis on vulnerability assessment and vulnerability prediction using ELSA (Essential Life Support Area) approach.
Issues of conducting geobotanical research in pastures and hayfields (In the case of Ellikkala district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan) Alisher Nuratdinov, Kuatbay Bekanov, Zaripbay Allashov, Adbujalil Mominov, Mamanbek Reimov, et al. E3s Web of Conferences, 2024 This article presents the results of geobotanical research conducted using geoinformation technologies in pastures and hayfields of the Ellikkala district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In this research work, the necessary information about the habitats and distribution environments of the nutritious pasture plants that are mainly consumed by livestock has been provided. Also, suggestions and recommendations are given for improving the methods of regeneration of vegetation cover growing in pastures. In order to ensure the productivity of pastures, research was conducted using 1:10,000 scale map and orthophoto plans of the district to determine the quality of the botanical composition of its plants.
Analysis of soil salinity monitoring in irrigated areas (in case of Shimbay district, Republic of Karakalpakstan) Ilyaskhoja Jumaniyazov, Mukhiddin Juliev, Yakhshimurad Khudaybergenov, Rashid Jaksibaev, Azizbek Orazbaev, et al. E3s Web of Conferences, 2024 Soil salinity increasing is one of the most dangerous factors for food security and ecological conditions in the world and also in Uzbekistan. Currently, salinity affects around 47% of Uzbekistan's irrigated lands. The study area is located in the western part of Uzbekistan and downstream of the Amu Darya River. The satellite images were acquired between the 2015- 2024 years over the 5-year time period. In order to analyse soil salinity was used Normalized Difference Salinity Index (NDSI) by the ArcGIS Pro software and RS data. Especially, slightly saline soils are the biggest occupied land and equal to 30% of the total area of the district, which of 127,735.4 ha. Also, saline soils are the second biggest land class which occupies 28.1% of the total area of the district, of which 119,612.9 ha. Meanwhile, non-saline soils occupied 20.55% of the total area, as well as both strongly saline and extremely saline soils occupied area is 21.34% of the total district of the study area, which is 87456.6 ha with 90827.43 ha.
Territorial composition of agriculture in the Aral Sea Region of Uzbekistan Uktamjon Eshimbetov, Medetbay Oteuliev, Omirbay Baltabaev, Yakhshimurad Khudaybergenov, Koblan Uzakbaev E3s Web of Conferences, 2024 In this article, the territorial composition of the agriculture of the Aral Sea region of Uzbekistan, that is, the Republic of Karakalpakstan is analyzed. Scientific works of scientists from the CIS, Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan on agricultural specialization were studied. The territorial structure of agriculture was first divided into three zones and analyzed. It is also studied within administrative-territorial units. The main goal of this research work is to analyze the territorial composition of agriculture in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Some issues of geoinformatics support for agroclimatic zoning in the South Aral Sea basin Mamanbek Reimov, Nizamatdin Mamutov, Polat Reymov, Viktor Statov, Yakhshimurad Khudaybergenov, et al. E3s Web of Conferences, 2023 The possibility of building a regional system for assessing the climatic potential and agroclimatic zoning using geoinformation approaches and specialized description language CSML (Climate Science Modelling Language) for the Southern Aral Sea basin. Modern approaches to the construction of agroclimatic zoning systems using ground-based and space-based monitoring are discussed. The necessity of combining geoecological and bioclimatic zoning of the territory using spatial databases is shown.
Land cover-adjusted index for the former Aral Sea using Landsat images Ilhomjon Aslanov, Sayidjakhon Khasanov, Yakhshimurad Khudaybergenov, Michael Groll, Christian Opp Ch, et al. E3s Web of Conferences, 2021 The Aral Sea was the fourth largest inland lake on the globe until 1960, with a surface area of about 68,000 km2. Mainly, the huge irrigation projects in many parts of its transboundary catchment were responsible for the catastrophic desiccation and ecological crises of the Aral Sea after second part of 20th century. Ecological crisis surrounding the Aral Sea (lake) regions is one of the critical environmental problems of Central Asia. As a result, monitoring of desertification processes and determining the aerosol concentration in the atmosphere are highly relevant for any attempts to mitigate environmental changes in the Aral Sea basin. Remote sensing is the most appropriate method for studying desertification and dust storms as it easily covers large areas with a high spatial and temporal resolution. Satellite images provide detailed multispectral information about the earth’s surface features, which proves invaluable for the characterization of vegetation, soil, water, and landforms at different scales. Vegetation cover, biomass, and soil properties were analyzed with remote sensing methods (NDVI, SDVI). It is emphasized that vegetation indices have little sensitivity at low leaf area which is common to all desert ecosystems.
