Rsc Advances, 2020 Nanostructuring and Bi substitution have considerably increased the thermoelectric power factor and ZT of BixZnCo2−xO4; Bi1.9ZnCo1.9O4 shows a higher power factor than that of other Bi substituted samples.
Enhancement of thermoelectric power factor of hydrothermally synthesised SrTiO3 nanostructures N Yalini Devi, P Rajasekaran, K Vijayakumar, A S Alagar Nedunchezhian, D Sidharth, et al. Materials Research Express, 2020 Strontium Titanate (SrTiO3) nanoparticles were synthesised by varying the hydrothermal growth period as 12, 24 and 48 h. The crystal structure, morphology, functional groups and elemental composition of the prepared SrTiO3 nanoparticles were studied using XRD, FESEM, Raman and XPS, respectively. XRD analysis shows that the intensity of the diffraction peaks of SrTiO3 increased with growth period due to high crystallinity of the hydrothermally grown samples. From the FESEM images, it was observed that the morphology of SrTiO3 was changed from spherical to cubic when the hydrothermal growth period increased from 12 to 24 h. The different modes of vibration of samples were studied using Raman spectroscopy. XPS substantiate the composition and binding states of each element in the sample. The Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity of the prepared SrTiO3 nanostructures were measured at various temperatures by pelletizing the samples. The Seebeck coefficient of the sample gradually increased with hydrothermal growth period. The electrical resistivity of the sample relatively decreased with growth period. The power factor of the samples was calculated from the obtained Seebeck coefficient and electrical resistivity. A power factor of the sample prepared at 24 h of hydrothermal growth (2.191 × 10−4 W.m−1.K−2 at 550 K) was two order higher than that of as prepared sample (0.012 × 10−4 W.m−1.K−2 at 550 K). The experimental results revealed that the increase in hydrothermal growth period has a potential effect on the morphology. The cubic morphology with high crystalline nature facilitated the electron transport thereby thermoelectric power factor was enhanced in SrTiO3 nanostructures.
The effect of rare earth ions on structural, morphological and thermoelectric properties of nanostructured tin oxide based perovskite materials P Rajasekaran, A S Alagar Nedunchezhian, N Yalini Devi, D Sidharth, M Arivanandhan, et al. Materials Research Express, 2017 Metal oxide based materials are promising for thermoelectric applications especially at elevated temperature due to their high thermal stability. Recently, perovskite based oxide materials have been focused as a novel thermoelectric material due to their tunable electrical conductivity. Thermoelectric properties of BaSnO3 has been extensively investigated. However, the effect of various rare earth doping on the thermoelectric properties of BaSnO3 is not studied in detail. In the present work, Ba1−xRExSnO3 (RE = La and Sr) materials with x = 0.05 were prepared by polymerization complex (PC) method in order to study the effect of RE incorporation on the structural, morphological and thermoelectric characteristics of BaSnO3. The structural and morphological properties of the synthesized materials were studied by XRD and TEM analysis. XRD analysis confirmed the mixed phases of the synthesized samples. The TEM images of Ba1−xSrxSnO3 shows hexagonal and cubic morphology while, Ba1−xLaxSnO3 exhibit rod like morphology. Various functional groups of the perovskite material were identified using FTIR analysis. Formation of the perovskite material was further confirmed by XPS analysis. The Seebeck coefficient of Ba0.95La0.05SnO3 was relatively higher than that of Ba0.95Sr0.05SnO3, especially at high temperature. The rod like morphology of Ba0.95La0.05SnO3 may facilitate fast electron transport which results high thermal power compared to Ba0.95Sr0.05SnO3 despite of its poor crystalline nature. The substitution of La3+ on the Ba2+ site could vary the carrier density which results high Seebeck coefficient of Ba0.95La0.05SnO3 compared to Ba0.95Sr0.05SnO3. From the experimental results, it is obvious that Ba0.95La0.05SnO3 could be a promising thermoelectric material for high temperature application.
