Enhanced pantograph charger design for electric bus using a solid state transformer Dinakar Yeddu, B. Loveswara Rao Aip Conference Proceedings, 2024 One of the major contributions of industrial technology is the invention of automobiles with heat engines. Automobiles in vast numbers are posing severe problems for society and humanity. The adverse consequences include a reduction in petroleum supplies, a reduction in air quality, and a significant increase in global warming. Electric, hybrid electric, and fuel cell-based drive train systems have long been regarded as the most exciting possible alternatives to the issue of land transportation. The development of solid state transformers (SST's) is based on Silicon carbide devices that are able to block higher voltages, switch faster than silicon (si) power devices. The Grid is stressed by electric vehicle charging systems and renewable generation causing voltage variations and SST's are the solution. This article discusses the ac pantograph charging of electric buses using a solid state transformer and the reliability of employing the two charging systems.

A Hybrid Chaotic MPA-PID Controller for Voltage Profile Enhancement in Solid State Transformer-Connected Pantograph System for Charging an Electric Bus Dinakar Yeddu, Loveswara Rao B International Journal of Renewable Energy Research, 2023 The article proposes a novel design of DC pantograph system charging of electric buses using a solid-state transformer and also proposes an efficient Marine predator’s algorithm optimizer with a novel chaotic behaviour to optimize the gains in the PID controller of the DC-DC forward converter voltage control. The Ch-MPA is based on a circle map of chaotic type to increase convergence and achieve global minima. The results are compared with other algorithms, like PSOPID and SAPID controllers. Transient response analysis, frequency response (Bode) analysis, and performance indices analysis were carried out on the Simulink/MATLAB platform. The simulation results of the proposed approaches are effective, and Ch-MPAPID and MPAPID for the DC-DC forward converter voltage control demonstrated superior performance
