Abstract The research for lead-free magnetoelectric (ME) multiferroic composite materials has increased considerably because they are environmentally friendly. For composites with 0–3 connectivity, synthesis with lead-free phase has proven challenging to obtain high values of ME coupling. This work reports the successful synthesis of the KNN/CFO composite (K0.5N0.5NbO3/CoFe2O4) by conventional synthesis process. XRD and SEI showed two well-defined, also presenting good electric polarization values. The ME coefficient was very high, reaching values close to 2850 mV cm−1·Oe at the electromechanical resonance frequency. The dipolar interaction between the electric charges and magnetic moments of the KNN and CFO phases was responsible for the high value and the behavior of dependence on the applied magnetic field.

Abstract In this work, a polycrystalline Ba0.96(½ Bi, ½ Li)0.04Ti(1-x) FexO3; (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.08) ceramics have been synthesised using a solid-state reaction method. The prepared systems were explored to detect the impact of Fe substitution on the energy bandgap of the ceramics. XRD patterns confirmed that there is a structural phase transition from tetragonal (P4 mm) to hexagonal (P63/mmc) phase as the concentration of Fe increases. Rietveld refinement was performed to obtain the lattice information. Furthermore, Raman spectroscopic analysis confirmed the structural information obtained from XRD study. The average bond length variations, strain evolutions, crystallite size, and theoretical density have been calculated from the structural analysis. It is found that the lower Fe concentration with the tetragonal phase showed a strong Jahn-Teller effect. Meanwhile, the higher concentration of Fe led to phase transition to hexagonal phase with fewer structural distortions. The optical band gap species were investigated through UV-Vis. Following the onset of defects induced by acceptor ions, an exciting band gap reduction up to 2.09 eV for the sample with x = 0.08 was attained. ESR and PL spectroscopies analyses showed that in the hexagonal phase region more defects are formed giving rise to promoting band gap narrowing. Furthermore, the ac conductivity analysis indicates the appearance of defect levels due to the formation of oxygen vacancies. This study demonstrates that the right choice of Fe content in the host material can tune the energy band gap significantly in the BLBTF system and may be exploited in photovoltaics in the visible region.

Abstract Ceramics have enormous potential in several emerging technologies, including nuclear reactors. Materials with chemical inertness, high-temperature operation, and physical properties stability under applied radiation with high energy are all desired in this field of technology. Given these broad specifications, bismuth titanate ceramics may prove to be a valuable material. Regarding this task, the effect of gamma rays on the structural, optical, and ferroelectric properties of samarium-modified bismuth titanate ceramics was investigated. The Bi3.15Sm0.85Ti3O12 (BSmT) compound was irradiated for 0, 50, 100, and 200 kGy using a 60Co gamma source at a dose rate of 10 kGy h−1. The phase structure confirmed the orthorhombic, single-phase nature even after gamma irradiation. The results show that the unit cell volume decreases from 966.39 to 962.38 Å3 with an increase in gamma dose from 0 to 200 kGy. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy study shows an irradiation-induced defect in the host matrix. The results show that the bandgap energy, dielectric constant, Curie temperatures, and remnant polarization slightly decreased with an increase in gamma irradiation. According to the findings of this study, the BSmT exhibits adequate stability against gamma irradiation, which offers tremendous promise in their utilization in nuclear reactor technology.
