  • Communication Ecology Model of Successful Aging in Indonesian Context
    Irwansyah Irwansyah

    MDPI AG
The communication ecology model of successful aging (CEMSA) as a part of aging studies from a communication perspective was replicated in the Indonesian context. The CEMSA provided a specific perspective from communication scholars about the successful aging process. The study of CEMSA has grown significantly to demonstrate the importance of the interactive-communication process to propagate and enhance aging studies. However, there has been no specific aging study from a communication perspective, especially from communication scholars in the Indonesian context. This study applied all concepts, variables, measurements, and analyses from the replicated study. The result showed that seven domains of communication about aging may be relevant to predict successful aging from a negative effect and positive effect, and efficacy toward aging. The model showed that the uncertainty and combination of a negative and positive effect in seven domains of communication about aging could construct the efficacy and success of the aging process. The model with seven domains of communication about aging could be proved while the data were gathered not by self-report.

The controlled environment room, called an isolation room, has become a must have for medical facilities, due to the spreading of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), to isolate the high risk infected patients. To avoid the transmission of the virus through airborne routes, guidelines were published by the government and the association. A medical facility must comply with this document for high-risk patient treatment. A full-scale N class isolation room was built at Syiah Kuala University to investigate the performance in terms of the controller, temperature, pressure, humidity, and energy consumption. The isolation room was equipped with a proper capacity heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, which consisted of an air conditioning compressor and a negative pressure generator (NPG), and its installation was ensured to fulfil the guidelines. Since the current NPG was controlled manually, a computer-based control system was designed, implemented, and compared with the manual control. The results showed that the computer-based control outputs better stability of pressure and electric power. For that reason, a computer-based control was chosen in the real case. To investigate the performance of the isolation room, a 24 h experiment was carried out under different parameter setups. The results showed that improvement of the control strategy for temperature and humidity is still necessary. The energy consumption during the activation of the NPG for the recommended negative pressure was slightly different. An additional piece of equipment to absorb the heat from the exhaust air would be promising to improve the energy efficiency.

Background: The decrease of immunity acquired from COVID-19 vaccines is a potential cause of breakthrough infection. Understanding the dynamics of immune responses of vaccine-induced antibodies post-vaccination is important. This study aimed to measure the level of anti-SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) total antibody in individuals at different time points upon the receipt of the second dose of CoronaVac vaccine, as well as evaluate the plausible associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among CoronaVac-vaccinated residents in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The level of anti-SARS-CoV-2 RBD total antibody was measured using Elecsys immunoassay. A set of standardized and validated questionnaires were used to assess the demographics and other associated factors. Results: Our results showed waning anti-SARS-CoV-2 RBD total antibody titres over time post-vaccination. Compared to samples of the first month post-vaccination, the antibody titres were significantly lower than those of five-months (mean 184.6 vs. 101.8 U/mL, p = 0.009) and six-months post-vaccination (mean 184.6 vs. 95.59 U/mL, p = 0.001). This suggests that the length of time post-vaccination was negatively correlated with titre of antibody. A protective level of antibody titres (threshold of 15 U/mL) was observed from all the samples vaccinated within one to three months; however, only 73.7% and 78.9% of the sera from five- and six-months possessed the protective titres, respectively. The titre of antibody was found significantly higher in sera of individuals having a regular healthy meal intake compared to those who did not (mean 136.7 vs. 110.4 U/mL, p = 0.044), including in subgroup analysis that included those five to six months post-vaccination only (mean 79.0 vs. 134.5 U/mL, p = 0.009). Conclusions: This study provides insights on the efficacy of CoronaVac vaccine in protecting individuals against SARS-CoV-2 infection over time, which may contribute to future vaccination policy management to improve and prolong protective strategy.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused a worldwide disruption of global health putting healthcare workers at high risk. To reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, in particular during treating the patients, our team aims to develop an optimized isolation chamber. The present study was conducted to evaluate the role of temperature elevation against SARS-CoV-2 viability, where the information would be used to build the isolation chamber. 0.6 mL of the Indonesian isolate of SARS-CoV-2 strain 20201012747 (approximately 1013 PFU/mL) was incubated for one hour with a variation of temperatures: 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, and 65°C in digital block heater as well as at room temperature (21-23°C) before used to infect Vero E6 cells. The viability was determined using a plaque assay. Our data found a significant reduction of the viral viability from 1013 PFU/mL to 109 PFU/mL after the room temperature was increase to 40°C. Further elevation revealed that 55°C and above resulted in the total elimination of the viral viability. Increasing the temperature 40°C to reduce the SARS-CoV-2 survival could create mild hyperthermia conditions in a patient which could act as a thermotherapy. In addition, according to our findings, thermal sterilization of the vacant isolation chamber could be conducted by increasing the temperature to 55°C. In conclusion, elevating the temperature of the isolation chamber could be one of the main variables for developing an optimized isolation chamber for COVID-19 patients.

Background: The decrease of immunity acquired from COVID-19 vaccines is a potential cause of breakthrough infection. Understanding the dynamics of immune responses of vaccine-induced antibodies post-vaccination is important. This study aimed to measure the level of neutralizing antibody (NAb) anti-SRBD in individuals at different time points upon the receipt of the second dose of CoronaVac vaccine, as well as evaluate the plausible associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among CoronaVac-vaccinated residents in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The level of NAb titre was measured using Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 S immunoassay. A set of standardized and validated questionnaires were used to assess the demographics and other plausible associated factors. Results: Our results showed waning SARS-Cov-2 NAb titres over time post-vaccination. Compared to samples of the first month post-vaccination, the levels of NAb titres were significantly lower than those of five-months (mean 184.6 vs. 101.8 IU/mL, p = 0.009) and six-months post-vaccination (mean 184.6 vs. 95.59 IU/mL, p = 0.001). This suggests that the length of time post-vaccination was negatively correlated with antibody anti-SRBD titre. A protective level of NAbs titres (threshold of 15 IU/mL) was observed from all the samples vaccinated within one to three months; however, only 73.7% and 78.9% of the sera from five- and six-months possessed the protective titres against SARS-CoV-2, respectively. IOP Publishing
Abstract As a part of a marginalized and vulnerable group, global older adult and environmental change bring together two key policy challenges that must be addressed to ensure a sustainable future. In terms of the communication perspective of sustainable development goals, communication performance should address environmental factors for the effectiveness of successful aging. The success of the communication strategies and attitudes scale in two previous studies was applied in the current study. This study applied a survey to assisted-specific living communities with the 71 items of communication scale for older adults. The result showed that older adults’ communication strategies and attitudes scale has high validity and reliability. Several items of communication strategies and attitudes were modified based on the local context of a specific region in Indonesia. This study concluded that an Indonesian version of the greener communication self-assessment scale of older adults (Indonesian-Greener CSOA) could be developed for more local contexts in specific regions of Indonesia, including the integration with the model that applied a greener communication perspective. The existing greener communication perspective could make a better understanding of the interaction between global aging and the environment to prevent and minimize disproportionate negative impacts on older people.

Society for Research and Knowledge Management
This research examines digital empowerment in high schools in Indonesia. Based on the reflexivity perspective, digital empowerment is described as the effort to respond to changes in learning systems in digital-based schools. This research was conducted qualitatively through observations and in-depth interviews. The participants of this study included school principals and the teachers of information and communication technology in three Indonesian public senior high schools in different cities, namely Banda Aceh, Padang, and Banjarmasin. The results highlighted the need to understand the context and projections of the teachers' and student's ability and self-access to information and communication technology elements, in which appropriate measures can be formulated in response to the digitisation of the teaching-learning process in the schools. Self-awareness and information and communication technology competence shape digital empowerment efforts in schools based on their respective needs and abilities. As such, the digital-based collaboration of teaching and learning can be construed as a form of contextual digital empowerment, which is applied at the micro-level adapting to dynamic changes in digital competence, especially in teachers and students.

  • Final task of public relations consultants initiation: A case of STIKOM InterStudi Campus Jakarta
Diajeng Herika Hermanu and . Irwansyah

SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications
Modern Organization Theory refers to the efforts to reach sustainable development goal, including in educational institutions which nowadays not only must compete academically but also have to develop their profit sustainability. InterStudi is the first educational institution in Indonesia which set up a Bachelor Degree in Public Relations. This study aims to explore the potential of in-house PR in an educational institution as a learning implementation facility as well as a means to make an additional profit by establishing a PR business unit. The conceptual model of this study refers to the previous studies which focus on how to make a sustainable profit (sustainable development goal) in the context of educational institutions. This study was conducted using a qualitative method through internal interviews with owners, management, and users. It also suggests comprehension of how in-house PR might function as a public relations facility as well as a means to make an additional profit from a PR agency, such as through PR Consultants, Event Consultants, PR Campaigns, or other external PR activities, by involving external users as the target audience. The result of this study provides a relevant suggestion for in-house PR in an educational institution to be established independently by optimizing the lecturers’ role as an educator who will train the students or alumni as internal PR and external PR consultants later on. The limitation of this study lies on the students who were involved as the PR Consultants; their lack of experience compared to a PR agency which has professionally existed makes it important to prepare training and upgrade their PR skills. This study is also limited to the scope of educational institutions where a further research might try to implement a similar study approach with a focus on the exploration of in-house PR business unit.

  • Assessment of mobile applications’ credibility in users’ content-searching behavior based on PIT theory
    Ayu Rahma Haninda and Irwansyah

    IEEE
This work studies the assessment of mobile applications credibility in user’s content-searching behavior, using Fogg’s Prominence-Interpretation Theory (PIT). Though credibility is a subjective notion, it can be assessed in an objective manner when examined by both components of credibility assessment - prominence and interpretation. Two-phase of mix method sequential studies use to investigate the LINE Webtoon mobile app user. The quantitative phase was a quasi-experiment administered to 30 participants. Then, it was followed by the qualitative phase with in-depth interviews with five people from the experiment’s participants. The results show that the credibility of webtoon’s content was not related to the app’s credibility. Users might interpret the credibility of content without necessarily making reference to the app. This result is true for LINE Webtoon mobile app, but when it applied in different contexts, the results may differ.
