  • Facial Biometric System for Recognition Using Extended LGHP Algorithm on Raspberry Pi
Soumendu Chakraborty, Satish Kumar Singh, Kush Kumar
    IEEE Sensors Journal, 2020
In today’s world, where the need for security is paramount and biometric access control systems are gaining mass acceptance due to their increased reliability, research in this area is quite relevant. Also with the advent of IOT devices and increased community support for cheap and small computers like Raspberry Pi its convenient than ever to design a complete standalone system for any purpose. This paper proposes a Facial Biometric System built on the client-server paradigm using Raspberry Pi 3 model B running a novel local descriptor based parallel algorithm. This paper also proposes an extended version of Local Gradient Hexa Pattern with improved accuracy. The proposed extended version of LGHP improved performance as shown in performance analysis. Extended LGHP shows improvement over other state-of-the-art descriptors namely LDP, LTrP, MLBP and LVP on the most challenging benchmark facial image databases, i.e. Cropped Extended Yale-B, CMU-PIE, color-FERET, LFW, and Ghallager database. Proposed system is also compared with various patents having similar system design and intent to emphasize the difference and novelty of the system proposed.

Tax evasion is pervasive in most of the nations. It impedes the economic progress of the nation. In this paper, we devise a technique that detects groups of people who commit evasion in the goods and services tax by manipulating their sales and (or) purchases with the motivation to reduce their tax liability. In particular, we perform clustering analysis on certain sensitive parameters pertaining to each of the dealers. Then by analyzing the number of dealers across the different clusters, we identified the suspicious set of dealers who are further investigated by looking at other sensitive parameters. This work is designed and implemented for the Government of Telangana, India.

ACM International Conference Proceeding Series, 2012
Biometrics have long been used for various applications in the areas like access control to facilities and computers, criminal identification, border security, access to nuclear power plant, identity authentication in network environment, airport security, and issue of passports or driver licenses, forensic and medical databases. As biometric finds its applications in several high security areas providing security to biometric template is of utmost importance. A biometric is permanently associated with a user and cannot be changed. Hence, if a biometric identifier is compromised, it is lost forever and possibly for every application where the biometric is used. Moreover, if the same biometric is used in multiple applications, a user can potentially be tracked from one application to the next by cross-matching biometric databases. Biometrics also leaks personal information to the attacker. Nevertheless, biometric systems are prone to a variety of attacks. The stored biometric template attack is the most severe of all the attacks. Biometric templates cannot be reissued on spoofing. Therefore, apart from security; biometric templates should be imparted with revocability. No single template protection method reported in recent years is capable of satisfying the diversity, revocability, security and performance requirements.
