Assessment of Obsessive Thoughts About COVID-19 in 7 Latin American Countries: Structure and Measurement Invariance of the Obsession With COVID-19 Scale Tomás Caycho-Rodríguez, Renzo Rivera-Calcina, Lindsey W. Vilca, Carlos Carbajal-León, Pablo D. Valencia, et al. Omega United States, 2026 The present study aimed to evaluate the measurement invariance of the Obsession with COVID-19 Scale (OCS) among seven Latin American countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Although the OCS has been used in several countries and languages, there is a need for approaches that better integrate the cross-cultural equivalence of the scale. A total of 3185 people participated in the study. The results indicated the presence of a unidimensional structure and good reliability indices for the OCS in each country. The alignment method indicated that the OCS is an invariant measure of COVID-19 obsession among the populations of seven Latin American countries. The findings based on IRT analysis indicated that all OCS items had adequate discrimination and difficulty parameters. The findings contribute to the understanding of the internal structure of the scale in different countries at the same time, something that has been pending evaluation.
Pandemic Grief and Suicidal Ideation in Latin American Countries: A Network Analysis Tomás Caycho-Rodríguez, Jonatan Baños-Chaparro, José Ventura-León, Sherman A. Lee, Lindsey W. Vilca, et al. Psychological Reports, 2026 This study aimed to characterize the network structure of pandemic grief symptoms and suicidal ideation in 2174 people from eight Latin American countries. Pandemic grief and suicidal ideation were measured using the Pandemic Grief Scale and a single item, respectively. Network analysis provides an in-depth characterization of symptom-symptom interactions within mental disorders. The results indicated that, “desire to die,” “apathy” and “absence of sense of life” are the most central symptoms in a pandemic grief symptom network; therefore, these symptoms could be focal elements for preventive and treatment efforts. Suicidal ideation, the wish to die, and the absence of meaning in life had the strongest relationship. In general, the network structure did not differ among the participating countries. It identifies specific symptoms within the network that may increase the likelihood of their co-occurrence and is useful at the therapeutic level.
Digit span WAIS III: test-retest reliability analysis in argentine adults Pablo Luis Martino, Mauricio Cervigni, Judith Sponton, Jessie Murray, Miguel Gallegos Revista Argentina De Ciencias Del Comportamiento, 2025 Digit span WAIS III is a test frequently used in neuropsychological assessment to explore attentional span and working memory. Although the scientific literature assigns it good to excellent test-retest reliability, these studies have focused on the r coefficient, and not on the intraclass correlation coefficient or ICC. In fact, the objective was to analyze the test-retest reliability for Digit span WAIS III using the ICC. Digit span WAIS III was administered to 85 argentines (average=64.1 years) at two different times with an average test-retest interval of 75.5 days. Digits back and Digits total obtained good reliability with ICC .61. Digits forward presented fair reliability with ICC .57. These results suggest that the temporal stability of the test is acceptable, but with values at the limit. Further reliability studies with ICC and shorter test-retest intervals would be desirable to ratify or rectify these new findings.
Validation of a Brief Resilience Scale in 50+ Argentines Pablo Martino, Tomás Caycho-Rodríguez, Jonatan Baños-Chaparro, Miguel Gallegos, Julio Torales, et al. Geropsych the Journal of Gerontopsychology and Geriatric Psychiatry, 2025 The Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS) measures resilience. According to our records, there are no data available regarding its reliability and validity in Argentina. This study investigates its psychometric properties in Argentine adults. We administered the BRCS to 161 Argentines between 50 and 89 years and analyzed its structural validity, internal consistency, and item response. The unidimensional structure yielded a good fit index. Internal consistency was acceptable (ω = .73), including in the analysis of the IRT ( rxx = .69). The total score was more precise at low levels, so that the BRCS would be useful in adults with low resilience. The BRCS is a valid and reliable measure of resilience in middle-aged and older adults of Argentina.
Measurement of Risk Factors Associated With bereavement Severity and Deterioration by COVID-19: A Spanish Validation Study of the Pandemic Grief Risk Factors Tomás Caycho-Rodríguez, Sherman A. Lee, Lindsey W. Vilca, Carlos Carbajal-León, Mario Reyes-Bossio, et al. Omega United States, 2025 The present study translated and evaluated the psychometric evidence of the Pandemic Grief Risk Factors (PGRF) in a sample of 363 people from the general population of Peru who suffered the death of a loved one by COVID-19 (63-4% women and 36.6% men, where 78.5% were between 18 and 29 years old). The findings indicated that the PGRF is a unidimensional and reliable measure. The PGRF items can differentiate between individuals with different levels of risk factors and thus cover a wide range of the latent construct. Also, a greater sense of distress for each of the risk factors for pandemic grief is necessary to answer the higher response categories. Risk factors significantly and positively predict COVID-19-associated dysfunctional grief. The results indicated that the PGRF in Spanish is a measure with adequate psychometric properties to measure risk factors for pandemic grief.
In Defense of the History of Psychology Gonzalo Salas, Rubén Ardila, Ana Maria Jacó-Vilela, Andrés M. Pérez-Acosta, Hugo Klappenbach, et al. Review of General Psychology, 2025 The main purpose is to provide a defense of the history of psychology at a global (worldwide); however, it is important to consider that this defense arises from Latin America. Given that this panorama is mostly unknown to a large part of psychologists, this article presents itself as an explicit action to foster this discipline by addressing three main issues. Firstly, present some milestones in the journey of the history of psychology at the global with an emphasis on Latin America. Secondly, present a series of critical reflections on the current relevance of this area within the field of psychology. Finally, establish a position in 10 sentences that acts as a defense of the importance of the history of psychology for the psychological discipline on various levels. While the majority of the content presented here is commonly recognized among individuals professionally immersed in historical research within the realm of psychology, it possesses a diminished level of accessibility for students and psychologists not specializing in historical matters. The aim here is not to convince those who are already convinced, but to have an impact beyond the community of specialists that, synergistically, can affect the vast field of psychology in general.
