  • Analysis of the mathematical understanding ability of students tuton class at statistical method course in the open university

    Mathematical understanding is one of the five essential skills in learning mathematics. It is essential to develop this mathematical understanding ability to solve problems in real life by applying the mathematics they understand. This study aimed to find out how the mathematical understanding ability of Tuton students in the Statistics Method class at the Open University was determined. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The instruments used to collect data are in the form of tests of mathematical understanding abilities and documentation. The test results were analyzed based on indicators of mathematical understanding. The results of this study indicate that the students' mathematical understanding ability is high.
  • Description of Online Math Educational Application in Improving Ability Understanding of Students’ Math Concepts

    The lack of comprehension of students' mathematical ideas spurred this study's application of a learning strategy that can enhance that knowledge, namely Matematika GASING (Gampang, Asyik, dan Menyenangkan) learning. This study aims to investigate the description of increasing the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who learn to use Matematika GASING learning. The method used is the descriptive quantitative research method. The subjects used were five students from different schools: two students from SMP Negeri 2 Pagedangan, two students from SMP Negeri 3 Ambon, and a student from SMP Negeri 8 South Tangerang. These subjects were given the treatment of online Matematika GASING learning. The instrument used in this study was a test for understanding mathematical concepts given through a pretest and post-test. The research data obtained were then calculated and described to conclude. The results of this study indicate that there is no increase in the ability to understand mathematical concepts by learning Matematika GASING online. This is because several activities in the learning process are not implemented as well as students who are not used to learning online.
  • An Algorithm Finding the Smallest Mean Square Error in The Exponential Smoothing Method for Forecasting Time Series Data

    One of the measurements for evaluating time series forecasting performances is the mean square error (MSE). This paper proposes an algorithm to find the smallest MSE. To capture the four components of the time series data (namely, seasonal variation, trend variation, cyclical variation, and random variation), the exponential smoothing method was used. This method uses three factors for smoothing where the data are the smoothing factor, 0 < α < 1, the trend smoothing factor, 0 < γ < 1, and the seasonal change smoothing factor, 0 < β < 1. First, all possible combination values of smoothing factors will be generated to one decimal digit. After that, the smallest MSE of those combinations will be determined by using an algorithm and observing their convergence pattern.

    Obesity problems have actually come to be a worldwide epidemic that has increased since 1980, with significant repercussions for health and wellness in young adults, adults, and youngsters. Obesity problems are an issue that has actually been expanding steadily which is why daily appear new studies entailing youngsters’ excessive weight, specifically those looking for influence elements as well as exactly how to predict the appearance of the condition under these elements; for this reason, early detection is called for. Data mining and also machine learning (ML) algorithms approaches are made use of in obesity problems forecast in our research. We made use of the Obesity Level dataset for our study, accumulated from the UCI Machine Learning Repository. The dataset includes information about 638 patients as well as their matching 17 attributes. We made use of nine ML algorithms on the dataset to predict obesity problems. We found that the model with Logistic Regression algorithm is well on obesity level prediction. The result validated Logistic Regression algorithm has the best performance of accuracy (100%), sensitivity (100%), specificity (100%), as well as AUC (1). The Logistic Regression model was selected because to its best performance, best gain, and fastest total time.
