  • AN ECONOMIC STUDY OF THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE FOOD SECURITY COEFFICIENT OF THE RICE CROP IN IRAQ FOR THE PERIOD (2003-2020)
    Duaa. A. N, O. K. Jbara
Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2024
This research was aimed to study the most important factors affecting the food security coefficient in Iraq for the period 2003-2020. Where the food security coefficient was calculated for the rice crop, the results showed that the rice food security coefficient amounted to about 0.55, which is nearly enough for six months, which requires maintaining the level of food security of rice and then study the factors affecting food security, considering the food security factor as a dependent variable, and each of the population, local production, available for consumption and imported quantities of rice as independent variables. Statistical and standard methods were used to find out the most important aspects of this subject in the agricultural sector, and Johansen's co-integration method was employed for this purpose, and unit root tests such as Phillips - Perron used, for the purpose of determining the stability of the data and then testing the optimal analysis method and formulating the standard model. The most important finding of the analysis is that there is an equilibrium relationship and a joint integration between the food security factor of rice and each of (population, local production, available for consumption, quantity of imports) despite the presence of short-term unequilibrium, and the value of the error correction parameter was (-1.48) which It means that 148% of the errors or unequilibrium that occur in the short term can be automatically corrected in less than a year to reach equilibrium in the long term.
  • A STUDY OF FACTORS AFFECTING ADOPTION OF PIVOT SPRINKLER IRRIGATION TECHNOLOGY FOR WHEAT CROP PRODUCERS
    Mohammed. M. S., O. K. Jbara
Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2024
This research was aimed to investigate a model of confirmatory structural validity for indicators of adopting axial sprinkler irrigation technology for wheat producers in Ain Al-Tamr district as the Karbala governorate during the agricultural season (2020-2021) through a number of hypotheses to measure and estimate the latent variables based on the five-point Likert scale to show the behaviors and psychological preferences for a set of phrases the samples targeting of farmers to the most important factor affecting the adoption of pivot sprinkler irrigation technology. The sample consisted of (100) farmers and based on the method confirmatory factor analysis and using the AMOS program. The most important influencing factors were obtained after exceeding the quality of conformity model, as the study proved that technology is of great importance in solving production problems, and social media has a significant impact on the availability of concepts and information about technology and great importance in the dissemination of that technology, and the decrease in water levels in the rivers (Tigris and Euphrates). Climatic changes led to directing the behavior and preferences of producers towards adopting pivot sprinkler irrigation to compensate for the shortage in irrigation water sources. Academic achievement and government support have a significant impact on the producer’s behavior in using modern irrigation methods.
  • Study of the Factors Affecting the Import Demand for Table Eggs in Iraq for the Period (2003-2022)
Nagham Rahman Muhammad, Firas Arhim Ibrahim, Osamah Kadhim Jbara
Iop Conference Series Earth and Environmental Science, 2024
The research aimed to conduct an economic and econometric analysis of table egg imports by analyzing some of the variables that affect the imported quantities of table eggs during the research period, where the import of table eggs constituted a large proportion after the year 2003. The research concluded that the demand for imports of table eggs was affected. Positively, the gross domestic product has increased, which has increased significantly in recent years as a result of the rise in global oil prices and because of the lack of controls that limit imports or regulate their work. The results also showed that the increase in relative prices was offset by a relative decrease in the demand for imports of table eggs in the long term, which indicates the flexibility of demand for the imported commodity, where the change in the relative prices of table eggs led to a decrease in imports by a greater percentage due to the presence of local alternatives to table eggs, such as cheese. Milk, etc. Also, the significance of the effect of foreign exchange reserves was not proven and it was negative as it reflected the inverse relationship with imports of table eggs.
  • ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF INTENSIFYING THE USE OF AGRICULTURAL INPUTS AND MODERN TECHNOLOGIES ON THE WHEAT PRODUCTIVITY IN IRAQ.
    T. A. Gawad, O. K. Jbara
Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2023
This research aimed to illustrate the significant role of modern technology packages in agriculture, in particular in the growth of wheat cultivation. In this research will attempt to use O-Ring method. The purpose our using of this method is to prove that the modern technological packages used in agriculture, wheat cropping combined have a significant impact on increasing the productivity of the wheat crop in Iraq. A sample is taking from 290 farms, by divided into three governorates Namely Wasit, Babil and Diwaniyah. The packaging used to grow wheat was micronutrients, seeds, fertilizers, laser-level potassium sulphate, seeds, potassium sulphate fertilizers, Pallas herbicide, Atlantis herbicide and the farming cycle. All these elements were expressed; as A3i. This is an indicator of the intensification of agricultural inputs for developing wheat cultivation in Iraq. The results of the analysis showed that there is a high degree of correlation between each of the modern technological inputs and the rest of the modern inputs. The results also indicated that there is a growth and development in the productivity of the wheat crop because of the use of modern technologies, as there is a correlation between the use of the modern technology package and the development of the productivity of the wheat crop in Iraq.
  • AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF MEAT POULTRY BREEDING PROJECTS AND THEIR PROFIT EFFICIENCY IN IRAQ FOR THE YEAR 2020( WASIT AS A CASE STUDY)
    I.S.A Al-Hachami, F. H. N. AL-Bahadely, Osamah K. Jbara
Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2022
This research was aimed to study and analyze the costs, revenues, and profits of meat chicken breeding projects. The study also estimating the random frontier profit function, the profit inefficiency function and profit efficiency which based on cross-sectional data that included 59 projects for raising meat poultry in Waist governorate in 2020.The results of the analysis showed through the descriptive analysis of the cost structure that, the costs of chicks and fodder account for more than 70% of the costs, as well as achieving economic profits for projects. Through the random border profit function, the significance of both the total revenue and the costs of chicks, fodder, medicines, vaccines, and services (water, electricity and fuel) was shown. As for the inefficiency function parameters, they were significant for each proved the age of the breeder, his years of experience, the presence of the veterinarian and the agricultural engineer. As for the efficiency of profits, it was 76%. The researcher recommended the necessity of supporting breeding projects by providing incentives to feed factories and their processors or supporting feeds and private hatcheries to reduce costs and provide training for less experienced breeders and urge them to involve veterinarians and agricultural engineers in supervising broiler projects.
  • Production Risk Analysis of Fish Farming Projects in Fish Ponds And Floating Cages A Case Study In Diyala Governorate
    E . A. Alobaidy, O. K. Jbara
Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2021
This research was aimed to study the problems related to fish farming and the risks that they face. Diyala Governorate was chosen as an applied model for measuring risk facing fish farmers. Research data were collected according to the random sample method, which included (30%) of all fish farming projects in Diyala Governorate. This sample has included 28% of the total fish farming projects in fish ponds and (31.5%) of the total Fish farming projects in cages through a questionnaire prepared for this purpose. The study focused on analyzing the behavior of fish farmers of the research sample towards risks by adopting a safety model in the form of the risk avoidance criterion (K(s)(.The production functions for fish farming projects in fish ponds and floating cages were estimated, and these functions were estimated by the absence of dummy variables (educational level, years of experience) and with their presence, as well as estimating the risk functions of fish farming projects in fish ponds and floating cages. The results showed that the percent of fish farmers who prefer to take risks in fish ponds (25%) and in floating cages (33.3%), and that the percent of fish farmers who prefer moderate risk (natural or medium) were about (53%) in the ponds and the proportion (66.7%) in Cages, while the fish farmers who avoid risks, they constitute (22%) in ponds and (0%) in cages, from which we conclude that fish farmers in floating cages prefer a greater risk than fish farmers in fish ponds, also the results of the risk function for farming projects in fish ponds and floating cages revealed that dummy variables (educational level, years of experience) have a negative relationship with production risks, which means that the improvement of the educational level and the increment of experience years contributes to a decrease in production risks.
  • AN ECONOMIC STUDY OF POST-HARVEST LOSSES FOR WHEAT FARMERS IN IRAQ BAGHDAD GOVERNORATE –CASE STUDY-
    S. H. Ali, O. K. Jabara
Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2021
The research aimed to measure the loss and waste of wheat farms, using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Although, loss has become a frightening reality due to the loss of large quantities of food produced by humans for human consumption, so Iraq possesses material capabilities, natural resources, and human beings, it is not self-sufficient, and the reason is the low yield per dounm of wheat, as the productivity rate ranged to 650 kg / dounm for the period 1990-2019. The one of the most important reasons for the decline in productivity is the loss and waste of wheat of post- harvest. And to identify the most important factors that work to reduce post-harvest wheat losses for wheat farmers at Baghdad, by use exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. So the results indicated that the most important factors that work to reduce losses are the duration of the crop remaining in the field after harvesting until the date of marketing it to the central silos by exposing the crop to environmental hazards, as well as attacking birds, rodents, stray animal feces, and what mixes of grains with soil. The correlation is positive and strong, at a rate of 97%, and the distance to the silo to which the crop is marketed and the logistical operations associated with it, such as crop transportation vehicles that do not comply with the conditions for the proper transportation of grains, as most of them are without cover and there are gaps and holes in them that facilitate the fall of the grains on the road is 80%, and it has a direct relationship as well. Also farmers could be increase their production without increasing economic resources by preserving wheat from loss and waste of post- harvest.
  • Measuring the Technical Efficiency of Potato Prduction and its Determinats in Iraq (Baghdad Province as Case Study).
    Al-Hachami & et al.
Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2020
This study aimed to estimate the stochastic frontier production function and the inefficiency function and technical efficiency of potato production by using cross-section data collected from 173 potato farms that were randomly selected in Baghdad province/ Yusifiyah for production season 2016. The results showed that 90.6% of inefficiency in production was due to technical inefficiency. Also, there was a significant relationship between the variables of inefficiency function and the inefficiency of farms. The values of the parameters of the stochastic frontier production function were positive and significant for both human work hours and the amount of seeds. However, the parameter of DAP fertilizer was negative and significant. The estimation of the technical inefficiency function showed that its parameters were significant for both the local seed provider and the agricultural season (fall), while the parameters experience in growing potatoes and the number of irrigations were significant and their impact was negative on the inefficiency. The results also showed that the technical efficiency of the study sample (50%) on average. The researchers recommended the necessity of providing imported seed tubers for the increased productivity in dunum to achieve technical efficiency.
