Correlates of ChatGPT use intention among freshmen health sciences students Ayesha Penuela, Maylin P. Habaña, Ryan Michael F. Oducado, John Erwin Pedroso, Ernie Bonzo, et al. Journal of Education and Learning, 2025 The proliferation of ChatGPT in educational contexts and incorporating such technology into students’ academic lives raise intriguing questions. Understanding the factors influencing the intention to adopt this novel technology is necessary for better integration and utilization. This study determined the correlates of intention to use ChatGPT among undergraduate health sciences students. Data for this correlational study was gathered through an online survey and was answered by 153 students of health sciences programs at a private school in the Philippines. Spearman’s correlational analysis demonstrated that perceived credibility, perceived usefulness, perceived social influence, attitude, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use significantly correlated with intention to use ChatGPT among health sciences students. These findings are crucial for educational practitioners looking for ways to enhance students’ learning outcomes and experiences. By leveraging technology like ChatGPT, they can potentially enrich educational experiences and better prepare students for the advanced technological landscape of healthcare, ultimately improving the quality of health sciences education.
Graduate students’ work status, perception, and online satisfaction predicting in-person instruction intention Ayesha Calmerin Penuela, Ryan Michael Flores Oducado International Journal of Evaluation and Research in Education, 2025 Along with easing COVID-19 restrictions, schools are reopening and starting face-to-face classes. Intending in-person instruction after a relatively long period after off-campus and online learning requires exploration. This study determined the factors that predict students’ intention to attend in-person instruction among graduate students. The responses of 178 college of education graduate students were gathered electronically using valid and reliable survey instruments. Findings showed that graduate students are moderately to highly satisfied with online learning but also highly intend to attend in-person instruction. The majority of graduate students think that it is unsafe and possible to spread COVID-19, and felt worried to less worried when school reopens. Multiple regression revealed that work status, perceived safety and worry about school reopening, and online learning satisfaction predicted intention to attend in-person instruction. School administrators should ensure the safety operation of schools should students return to campuses, especially when there are threats to their health and security.
Demographics and job satisfaction as predictors of mental well-being of Filipino teachers: A web-based survey two years after the onset of pandemic Ryan Michael Oducado, Mary Kristine Amboy, Baby Rose Robles, Daisy Rosano, Hilda Montaño, et al. International Journal of Educational Research and Innovation, 2024 Teachers worldwide have had to change how they work because of the COVID-19 health crisis. These work changes and pandemic challenges have affected teachers in one way or another. There is a need to investigate teachers' welfare and how contented they are with their jobs two years after the onset of the pandemic and nationwide lockdown. This study examined the factors predicting the subjective mental well-being of teachers in the Philippines. Using a cross-sectional study design, the survey responses of 218 Filipino teachers were analyzed. Data were gathered electronically using the demographic profile form, a short version of the Warwick–Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale, and the Short Index of Job Satisfaction. Results indicated that the majority of teachers had average to high job satisfaction and average subjective mental well-being. Regression analysis revealed that the type of school employed, residence, and job satisfaction were significant predictors of the mental well-being of teachers. This study affirms that certain demographic variables and satisfaction at work exert a positive influence on the mental health of teachers. Continuously making improvements in the working conditions of teachers and devising ways to enhance their well-being are vital.
Instructors' caring behaviors, burnout, satisfaction, and academic performance of nursing students in online education and the pandemic era Ryan Michael F. Oducado, Mary Kristine Q. Amboy, Ayesha C. Penuela, Ronnell D. Dela Rosa, Maria Teresa M. Fajardo, et al. Frontiers of Nursing, 2022 Objective: This study aimed to determine the predictive ability of instructors’ online caring behaviors, online learning burnout, and satisfaction with online learning on nursing students’ academic performance. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study employing the administration of online self-report measures among 606 undergraduate students in one large nursing school in the Philippines. Statistical analysis involved the use of descriptive statistics, Pearson’s r, and linear regression. Results: The mean scores in the instructors’ online caring behaviors scale, online learning burnout scale, online learning satisfaction scale, and self-reported academic performance were 3.88 ± 0.70, 4.00 ± 0.84, 2.51 ± 0.96, and 3.25 ± 0.79 respectively. Satisfaction (β = 0.216, P = 0.000), burnout (β = 0.-098, P = 0.019), and instructors’ caring behaviors (β = 0.096, P = 0.030) explained 11.7% of the variability in the students’ academic performance. Conclusions: Instructors’ caring behavior and levels of burnout and satisfaction are linked to students’ academic success in the virtual learning environment. This study calls for nursing instructors to be mindful of signs of burnout, employ proactive measures that promote satisfactory learning, and foster more caring behaviors in this time of global health crisis.
