    • Focus on Power Quality (PQ) Issues : Comprehensive analysis of PQ disturbances, including single-stage and complex events, to safeguard grid and end-user equipment. • Novel Algorithm Development : Introduction of a Wavelet-Alienation-Neural algorithm for swift detection and classification of PQ events. • High-Speed Detection : Algorithm achieves event detection within a quarter cycle, utilizing alienation coefficients derived from wavelet approximations. • Versatility in Detection : Successfully tested on a wide spectrum of PQ events, including sags, swells, flickers, notches, harmonics, interruptions, transients, and complex disturbances. • Accurate Event Classification : Neural network-based classification using one-cycle approximate coefficients ensures precise identification of diverse PQ disturbances. In recent times, the issue of power quality has garnered significant attention from both utility providers and consumers, aiming to pinpoint the origins of disruptions to safeguard equipment. Power quality problems (PQ) encompass a range of abnormalities in voltage, current, or frequency, leading to equipment malfunction or failure. This research introduces a novel Wavelet-Alienation-algorithm designed for the detection and classification of Power Quality (PQ) events. The algorithm is engineered to swiftly detect PQ events within a quarter cycle time-frame, leveraging alienation coefficients derived from approximate wavelet coefficients. The variation of these alienation coefficients over time indicates PQ events, as their values surpass a predefined threshold, whereas they remain significantly lower in the case of pure sine waves. This methodology has been rigorously tested across various PQ events, including single-stage disturbances such as swells, sags, notches, harmonics, flickers, interruptions, and impulsive transients, as well as complex PQ disturbances formed by combinations of these simpler events. Encouragingly, the algorithm consistently demonstrates satisfactory performance in accurately detecting these events.
  • Fault Diagnosis and Identification for Stator Winding Faults of Induction Motor using Wavelet-Alienation based Algorithm
Ravi Soni, Nandkishor Gupta, Bhuvnesh Rathore
2025 IEEE International Conference on Smart Power Energy Renewables and Transportation Spert 2025 Proceedings, 2025
This work presents a robust protection scheme for diagnosis and type detection of faults in 3-phase squirrel cage induction motors (SCIM). In the suggested method, 3-phase signals are processed and analyzed using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to extract the approximate coefficients, which are subsequently utilized to compute the alienation coefficients through correlation analysis. These alienation coefficients act as crucial indicators for stator fault diagnosis and classification; by comparing their magnitudes against a predefined threshold. The implemented algorithm exhibits high levels of accuracy, reliability and computational efficiency in diagnosing and assessing various stator fault conditions in three-phase SCIMs.

Ravi Soni, Nandkishor Gupta, Bhuvnesh Rathore
2025 IEEE International Conference on Smart Power Energy Renewables and Transportation Spert 2025 Proceedings, 2025
This paper presents an intelligent and robust protection scheme for the fault detection and diagnosis of broken rotor bar faults in <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$3-\phi$</tex> squirrel cage induction motors (SCIM). The proposed method employs Wavelet Transform for decomposing the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$3-\phi$</tex> current signals in the stator and extract the approximate coefficients that capture essential fault-related features. Subsequently, alienation coefficients are computed from correlation analysis among the phase components, serving as reliable fault indices. Fault conditions are identified by comparing these indices against a predefined threshold. Experimental validation demonstrates that the proposed algorithm offers high accuracy, computational efficiency and robustness in identifying rotor bar faults under diverse operating conditions.

  • Stability Analysis of Heffron-Phillips SMIB Model with Integrated Power System Stabilizer and Effect of Time Delay
Gaurav Jain, Divakant Garg, Vishal Rohela, Bhuvnesh Rathor
India International Conference on Power Electronics Iicpe, 2023
The Heffron-Phillips Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) model, integrated with a power system stabilizer (PSS), offers a comprehensive depiction of a synchronous generator linked to an infinite bus within a power network. This model adeptly captures the interplay of mechanical and electrical aspects of the generator, along with the impact of a power system stabilizer on overall stability. The PSS acts as a control mechanism to attenuate oscillations and enhance dynamic stability. The synchronous generator's traits, including inertia, damping, and electrical characteristics, are represented in the Heffron-Phillips SMIB model. The turbine governor and excitation systems symbolize the mechanical and electrical components, respectively. These elements interact internally and with the external power system through voltage and mechanical power. Incorporating time delay in the power system stabilizer adds complexity, stemming from communication and processing delays. Modeling a delayed PSS within the Heffron-Phillips framework demands scrutiny of its impact on system dynamics. Time delays can influence control system stability and performance, necessitating careful analysis and tuning.

2023 5th International Conference on Electrical Computer and Communication Technologies Icecct 2023, 2023
Understanding and analyzing power system stability behavior under various conditions is the goal of power system stability analysis. The PSS is utilized by generators to address stability issues. To distinguish PSS execution under the transient inadequacy condition, a transient stability examination is carried out. This paper manages power system stabilizers to enhance the system's dynamic stability. Reenactment programming, such as MATLAB, licenses such evaluation on test structures, such as the 3 machine 9 Bus systems, which are intended to calculate various apparatuses of system under various conditions, despite the fact that such an examination cannot be carried out in the field. Various PSS have been used in the past to tune PSS frequency. In addition to comparing the obtained results to those of other PSS, we tuned the repeat of PSS using frequency response strategy that makes use of the system's frequency under transient conditions. The simpowersystem MATLAB tool kit was used to plan and analyze transient stability for the System with PSS.

2021 6th IEEE International Conference on Recent Advances and Innovations in Engineering Icraie 2021, 2022
Distributed power generation based on solar power, wind energy will give critical energy in future. There has been an important progress in grid Technology to use the local energy sources and furthermore to reduce the transmission losses and increase the power sharing capability. This work considers the effect of disturbance and fault in four area system connected to DFIG. The controlling of four area system connected to DFIG is performed. The different PSSs are utilized in primary control action. The comparison in time domain response having without any controller mean without PSS, with simple or conventional PSSs (Delta Omega (ω) and Delta Pa (acceleration power)), MB (Multi-Band) PSS and Fuzzy Logic (FL) based PSSs. Using a test DFIG model, the performance of fuzzy controller (FL) power system stability is accessed via time domain simulation of the test DFIG model on MATLAB/Simulink (R2015a) environment.

Amit Kumar Gangwar, Om Prakash Mahela, Bhuvnesh Rathore, Baseem Khan, Hassan Haes Alhelou, Pierluigi Siano
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2021
This article presents a <inline-formula><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$k$</tex-math></inline-formula>-means clustering and weighted <inline-formula><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$k$</tex-math></inline-formula>-nearest neighbor (<inline-formula><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$k$</tex-math></inline-formula>-NN) regression-based algorithm for the protection of transmission line. Three-phase current signals of both the terminals are synchronized and sampled with a sampling frequency of 3.84 kHz. Cumulative differential sum (CDS) is computed by subtracting the samples of current cycle from the previous cycle at both the terminals of transmission line. <inline-formula><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$k$</tex-math></inline-formula>-means clustering is applied on CDS to compute two centroids using moving window of width, equal to one cycle. Difference between the absolute values of centroids is computed at both the terminals and represented by the centroid difference (CD). The CD of both the terminals is added to compute the fault index. The computed fault index is used to detect and classify the types of faults. The location of the fault is estimated by the weighted <inline-formula><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$k$</tex-math></inline-formula>-NN regression method. Various case studies are performed to validate the robustness of the algorithm for different fault parameters such as fault impedance and fault location. The effect of noise is also considered to check the accuracy of the proposed algorithm in the noisy environment.
