    A versatile concept in the field of Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) is Eco-friendly ECC. The materials and properties of specimens will influence the characteristics. In this present study, locally available fine aggregates (50% River sand + 50% M-Sand (16.3316 0 N, 80.3514 0 E)) and 2% PVA fibers-based Mix-1, local sand and sisal fibers based Mix-2 (1% sisal fibers + 1% PVA fibers) are considered. The flowability is slightly reduced from Mix-1 to Mix-2. All considered mixes showed good self-consolidation properties (Deformability factor (D.F.) <2.75 based on Li, 2008). For analysis of the mechanical characteristics, different specimens are considered. The compressive and flexural properties negligibly reduced by the size of specimens. But compressive strength moderately reduced by shape (cube to cylindrical specimens). The compressive ratio is between 1.45 to 1.6. The split tensile properties are moderately reduced with the size specimens. All these mechanical characteristics are slightly reduced by the usage of sisal fibres. To determine the durability properties, Rapid chloride penetration (RCPT) test conducted. However, these properties also negligibly influenced by the sisal fibres. It indicates that the sisal fibres can be used for the partial replacement of PVA fibres in the local sand-based mixes. To analyse this, SEM and XRD analysis conducted. Their performance also validated based on Roychand et al, 2016. The hydration of particles and arrangement of fibres are responsible for the significant performance of this Eco-friendly ECC.

    Snail shells are the bio-shells that eateries discard. Around 100 million tonnes of snail shells are come out as waste material in the world every year. These were creating substantial environmental problems and harm to living organisms. As mentioned earlier, the present work focuses on using snail shell powder (SSP) as a raw material in mortar. The current work compared the calcined and un-calcined snail shells powder behaviour in mortar concerning mechanical and durability properties. Calcined and un-calcined snail shell mortar composite is partially replaced Cement with snail shell powder of 0–35% with a variance of 5% in mortar. The chemical composition of both the mixes was assessed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. In addition, a compressive strength, flexure and split, and tensile strength test were performed on both mixes to determine the mechanical properties of mortar. Water absorption, sorptivity, and rapid chloride permeability tests on cement mortar were done on both mixes. According to the investigation results, the best use of snail shell powder is 30% for un-calcined shells and 25% for calcined shells. The durability properties of both mixes improved when the amount of snail shell powder increased, and neither blend showed much variation. Microstructural analysis viz., XRD, SEM, and EDS has been performed on both mixes and obtained higher C–H gel and C–S–H gel formations at 25% and 30% replacement of Cement of calcined and un-calcined snail shell powder.

    Concrete is a globally used construction material. The building industry's usage of raw materials depletes natural resources and increases harmful materials in the environment. Alternative goods have been discovered to help conserve the environment and natural resources. In the same context, industrial/biological wastes such as Fly Ash, Steel fibres, Banana fibres, and others are used to replace a portion of the traditional concrete mix composition. The specimens were prepared by adding different percentages of fibres to the concrete. Steel fibres (adding 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 and 4%) and banana fibres (adding 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 and 4%). The specimens were tested and compared to a standard concrete mix for compressive and flexural strength. The addition of 2% banana fibre and 4% steel fibre was optimal for improving mechanical qualities. The performance was investigated by mechanical and durability testing and microstructure analysis. Water absorption sorptivity testing and quick chloride penetration tests are performed on the mixtures to ensure their durability (RCPT). Due to the introduction of C-S-H gels, combination durability has increased, which reduced porosity. Increased curing time enhanced these features. Compared to 28 days, the porosity of concrete was moderately reduced after 90 days. After 90 days of curing, the water absorption levels in the mixes dramatically decreased compared to previous stages (7, 14, 28, 56 and 90 days). From 7 to 90 days, the XRD pattern shows a decrease in quartz and mullite peaks, suggesting a decrease in void content and C-S-H gel formation in this concrete matrix.
