  • SENTIMENT ANALYSIS OF FINANCIAL NEWS USING THE BERT MODEL
Najeem Olawale Adelakun, Abimbola Baale Adebisi
Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications, 2024
Financial decisions are strongly reliant on correct sentiment analysis. Traditional methods frequently fall short of capturing hidden sentiments. A financial market dataset comprising 5,842 reviews was collected for analysis. Among these, 1,852 reviews were positive, 860 were negative, and 3,130 were neutral. After downsampling, the data was divided into two groups: the training set and the test set. The training set was employed to train the model, while the test set was reserved for evaluation. This study applies a deep learning approach using the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model to train the dataset. The performance of the model was measured using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The model gave a high performance with an accuracy of 95.29%, precision of 95.37%, recall of 95.24%, and a minimal loss of 9.07%. Notably, the F1-score, which provides a balanced evaluation of the model's efficiency, is 95.32%. These findings highlight the BERT model's effectiveness in conducting sentiment analysis in financial markets. The study not only enhances the field of financial sentiment analysis, but it also emphasises the practicality and dependability of using deep learning techniques to extract significant insights from financial data.
  • DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN INTELLIGENT ELECTRONIC PROJECT SIMULATOR BOARD
Matthew B. Olajide, Najeem O. Adelakun, Peter B. Olayioye, Oludipe Toluwanimi, David S. Kuponiyi
Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications, 2024
The increasing demand for a versatile electronic project board led to the creation of an innovative solution by a dedicated team. This device was meticulously designed to serve the needs of educational institutions, students, and electronics enthusiasts. The existing challenge in this field was the absence of a comprehensive project board capable of supporting complex circuit simulations. Traditional setups lacked crucial features like power supplies, waveform generation, and digital tools, limiting the effectiveness of electronic circuit exploration. The study aimed to address these limitations by developing an electronic project board with an 18W audio amplifier, a versatile function generator, and robust AC and DC power supplies with short circuit protection. Additionally, it incorporated a solderless breadboard, digital oscilloscope, and Arduino Uno board, expanding its utility to Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The board's design included key components such as the LM386 low-power audio amplifier IC, the TL082 dual JFET input operational amplifier, linear voltage regulators, resistors, diodes, capacitors, jack plugs, flexible cables, and a well-connected breadboard. The resulting project board successfully met the specifications, offering a comprehensive solution for electronic circuit simulation. Its adaptability, safety features, and IoT compatibility make it invaluable for both educational and domestic use. In conclusion, this newly developed electronic project board fills a critical gap in electronics experimentation and education. It is recommended for tertiary institutions and students' personal projects, providing a versatile tool for circuit design exploration. Future enhancements could further extend its utility in various applications.
  • DESIGN OF AN AUTOMATIC LICENSE PLATE READER
Matthew B. Olajide, Najeem O. Adelakun, David S. Kuponiyi, Zaid O. Jagun, Charity S. Odeyemi
Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications, 2022
The increase in the number of vehicles and the alarming rate of theft and defaulters daily prompts the need for sophisticated matching technology to curb car theft, reduce traffic offenders, and any other anomalies/irregularities affecting vehicles' smooth operation. This study deals with the design of an automatic license plate reader which automatically captures an image of the vehicle's license plate, transforms that image into alphanumeric characters using optical character recognition or similar high-tech software, and compares the plate number acquired to one or more databases of vehicles of interest to law enforcement and other agencies against those of stolen cars or people suspected of being involved in criminal activities. The automated capture, analysis, and comparison of vehicle license plates typically occur within seconds enabling the officer in charge to take appropriate actions.
  • DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF A HYBRID DISTRIBUTION BOARD
Najeem O. Adelakun, Banji A. Olanipekun, Samuel A. Omolola
Journal of Engineering and Technology for Industrial Applications, 2021
The intermittent power supply in the country has given rise to the use of direct current (DC) source as a substitute, however, most devices such as LED lamps, refrigerators, television, and radios are available in DC nowadays and cannot be connected to the conventional mains supply without the help of other devices like AC to DC converters. This prompts the need for a hybrid distribution board capable of supplying AC and DC concurrently to a final sub-circuit of an electrical installation of a building where DC and AC devices are required. Major components used are an isolator, miniature circuit breakers, and a rectifying module that convert a section of the AC source to the correct voltage level to power the DC load. The design was implemented and tested on a demonstration board having two separate circuitry loads installed on it. The circuitry loads are DC and AC, the DC load is comprised of a 5W DC bulb controlled with a gang switch, while the second circuitry is comprised of a 13A single socket outlet and a 10W LED lamp controlled with a gang switch. The result shows that both the DC and AC output works perfectly which when encourage will minimise power consumption and make provision for the connection of DC appliances without the use of external converter and step-down transformers.
  • Assessment of renewable energy in Nigeria: Challenges and benefits
Banji A Olanipekun, Najeem O Adelakun
International Journal of Engineering Trends and Technology, 2020
Presently, there is rapid growth in Technology advancement. Developed countries are searching for new alternative energy sources to minimize the pressure on natural sources like gas, uranium, oil, coal, etc. However, natural sources of energy are inadequate and expensive, which also contributed heavily to greenhouse gas emissions. Developing countries like Nigeria are also trying to exploit different renewable energy sources like solar energy, hydropower, wind energy, bioenergy, etc. to accomplish their increasing demand and also to eradicate the energy crisis Nigeria has been experiencing due to insufficient electricity generation. This paper analyses the importance of renewable sources, the challenges and the benefits. This paper also analyses how renewable energy can be accepted as a perfect solution for economic development.
