Analysis of glass fiber-reinforced composite leaf springs in a light commercial vehicle Shivam Aggarwal, Krishan Kumar, M. L. Aggarwal Scientific Reports, 2024 Leaf springs are designed to bear loads as well as shocks in automotive vehicles. Two leaves of glass fiber-reinforced composites (GFRCs) of various shapes sandwiched between steel plates were analyzed for application in a minitruck. Computer-aided engineering analysis was performed for five different types of GFRC material leaf springs: flat leaf, flat and parabolic leaf, both parabolic leaf, both parabolic leaf springs with aluminium alloy bushes at the eye-end and spring steel multi-leaf springs. A silencer pad was used in the parabolic leaf spring to reduce delamination and vibration at contact points of the mating leaf. The various shapes and combinations of leaves provided varying parameters, namely, the deformation, maximum equivalent strain, maximum equivalent stress and fatigue life. The CAE results showed that compared with the other combinations, the flat leaf and parabolic leaf combinations provided the maximum equivalent strain, maximum equivalent stress and fatigue life.
Optimisation of brake pedal linkage: A comparative analysis towards material saving using CAE tools N.A. Amandeep, Krishan Kumar International Journal of Computer Aided Engineering and Technology, 2019 This work is concerned with the design optimisation of brake pedal linkage. An existing model of brake pedal linkage was analysed through finite element analysis module of ANSYS. The target outcomes were observed under defined loading and boundary conditions to provide a realistic analysis environment. The maximum deflection, von Mises stress, etc. were determined for maximum load through FEA. The maximum stress prone areas of the assembly as well as parts under high stress were concentrated. To optimise existing model, the stress free volume of the material from the linkage assembly has been targeted. The CAD model of the new design of linkage is modelled using CATIA features. Keeping in view the design concepts of mechanical components this stress free volume of the material has been removed to make it light weight without compromising with the strength of linkage. The optimised model has been analysed through ANSYS again to observe its outcomes. The prime objective of this work is material saving and related material cost minimisation.
