This study seeks to understand the political literacy of primary health care (PHC) professionals at basic health units (BHUs) in the city of Urubici, in the mountains of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Political literacy is an individual's ability to understand and participate in political processes. This literacy enables professionals to not only treat diseases but also act as social agents, promoting collective health. The absence of a critical and reflective approach to the role of health professionals in society results in a limited view of the community's needs. How do these professionals understand the public health policies of the SUS (Unified Health System), in particular the National Primary Care Policy? What are these professionals' perceptions of political literacy and its implications for public health policies in Urubici, Santa Catarina? (...) Keywords: Political literacy, health professionals, Primary Health Care, Unified Health System.
