Proceedings of the 4th IEEE International Conference on Interdisciplinary Approaches in Technology and Management for Social Innovation Iatmsi 2026, 2026
The information on medicinal plant species is essential to preserve medicinal plants and protect biodiversity. The identification of these plants by botanist experts are complex and time-consuming process. Whereas, the emergence of advanced technologies has led to the development of alternative methods for medicinal plant identification. D eep I earning <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$m$</tex> odels based on artificial i ntelligence a re p roviding a n a ccurate d etection of medicinal plants. The results indicate that EfficientNetB0 achieves outstanding performance, with a training accuracy of 99.41% and a validation accuracy of 95.83%. Serving as an effective decision support system, the EfficientNetB0 classifier can quickly and accurately identify medicinal plants. This study introduces an innovative approach to the detection of medicinal plant species using pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models, demonstrating the reliability of the classifier.

Many government and private organisations represent themselves to the public using their own symbols or logo which is unique from others so that anyone can easily identify their products or belongings. This gives an ownership and source documentation to the owner by simply providing such logos. Using these logos for document retrieval in the World Wide Web is a booming research in the present era. Since usage of virtual documentation is increased day by day and handling this large data becomes a problem while searching for a single data. In the present research arena, various document image retrieval models are available based on classification and clustering techniques. In this, graph techniques are used to identify the issues in the automatic logo detection model using back propagation neural network along with the single value decomposition model. This proposed research model is concerned about the document retrieval system based on the logo matching process to attain better efficiency and accuracy than the earlier detection models.
  • High performance inventive system for gait automation and detection of physically disabled persons
    R. Vinothkanna, T. Vijayakumar, N. Prabakaran
International Journal of Intelligent Enterprise, 2021
Physically challenged persons may face many difficulties in the present modern environment as most of the commercial facilities and utilities for a day to day life is designed for normal people to lead a sophisticated life. Particularly, people with physically disabilities face struggles in escalators in malls and public transportation places. It is very difficult for the disabled individual to be identified as one among in a large crowd and they normally feel unconformable to step inside in a running escalator. This research work proposes a novel method to identify the physically challenged persons from a large crowd by their nature of legs, walking pattern and hand sticks and provide necessary preference for them to get inside the escalators. Gait automation and detection mechanism is used for person identification for all gait events and deep learning-based neural network (DNN) is used for learning the patterns and making the system to automatically identify the physically challenged. Experimental results show that the proposed system automatically measures all the angle of gait events with an accuracy level of 95.4% and thus offers a cost effective solution for gait kinematic analysis for disabled peoples.
  • A wireless IOT system towards gait detection technique using FSR sensor and wearable IOT devices

International Journal of Intelligent Unmanned Systems, 2020
Purpose The recent advancement in gait analysis combines internet of things that provides better observations of person living behavior. The biomechanical model used for elderly and physically challenged persons is related to gait-related parameters, and the accuracy of the existing systems significantly varies according to different person abilities and their challenges. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach Deployment of wearable sensors in gait analysis provides a better solution while tracking the changes of the personal style, and this proposed model uses an electronics system using force sensing resistor and body sensors. Findings Experimental results provide an average gait recognition of 95 percent compared to the existing neural network-based gait analysis model based on the walking speeds and threshold values. Originality/value The sensors are used to monitor and update the predicted values of a person for analysis. Using IoT a communication process is performed in the research work by identifying a physically challenged person even in crowded areas.
  • A multimodal biometric approach for the recognition of finger print, palm print and hand vein using fuzzy vault
    R. Vinothkanna, Amitabh Wahi
International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, 2020
For the security reasons, person identification has got primary place by means of some of the physiological features. In this paper, multimodal biometry is utilised for the person identification with the help of three physiological features such as finger print, palm print and hand vein. Initially, in the pre-processing stage, the unwanted portions, noise content and the blur effects are removed from the input finger print, palm print and hand vein images. The features from these three modalities are extracted. The combined feature vector is obtained by chaff points and extracted features. After getting the combined feature vector points, the secret key points are added with the combined feature vector points to generate the fuzzy vault. Finally, in the recognition stage, test person's combined vector is compared with the fuzzy vault database. Now we can obtain the corresponding finger print, hand vein and palm print images.
  • A novel multimodal biometrics system with fingerprint and gait recognition traits using contourlet derivative weighted rank fusion
    R. Vinothkanna, P. K. Sasikumar
Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing, 2020
We propose a novel multimodal biometric system that uses fingerprint and gait recognition traits. Fingerprint images are gathered with the help of a touchless optical sensor with total internal reflection and a capacitive line sensor. Gait samples are obtained as continuous images in 3 frames from a camera in burst mode. Features from these images are extracted with the help of Minutia Cylinder-Code (MCC) minutia descriptor. Further, the images are compared with the gathered sample database of 80 sample images. The comparison score is normalized using geometric mean. Fusion of the normalized images is done using contourlet derivative weighted rank fusion. A combination of these techniques provides an improved performance for authentication using biometrics.
  • A novel GAAC optimisation algorithm for multimodal fusion score decision making in secured biometric systems
    R. Vinothkanna, S. Sivakannan, N. Prabakaran
International Journal of Information and Computer Security, 2020
Increased use of biometric systems on a global scale almost for all services have seen an increasing trend in research trying to improve the quality of authentication and containment of features extracted. A multimodal biometric system based on fusion score decision making has been proposed in this paper using a hybrid evolutionary framework. Genetic and ant colony optimisation (GAAC) algorithm has been presented and implemented on features of three biometric traits namely iris, fingerprint and finger vein to obtain a decision on the authenticity of the claiming individual. Features have been extracted using a frequency domain ridgelet transform as they are better able to approximate the fine component of ridges present on the fingerprint. The proposed hybrid technique is experimented on images from CASIA image database and efficiency metrics such as classification accuracy, positive find and negative find have been computed. The computational time has also been observed to be quite satisfactory due to fast converging nature of the hybrid combination.
  • Investigation of problems faced during capturing of gait signals
    R. Vinothkanna, N. Prabakaran, S. Sivakannan
International Journal of Medical Engineering and Informatics, 2020
To solve the issue of close human contact in biometric authentication system, relatively a new technique gait recognition is used. The human gait is a common feature for identifying the walking manner of the person during walking and it is viewed as significant indicator for gait function of individual for experimental and research setting. Gait symmetry is usually considered as function of locomotion between the changes of the body and its activities. An exclusive advantage of gait as a biometric is its latent for detection at a distance or at low resolution or when other biometrics might not be perceivable. In this paper we investigate the problem of people recognition by their gait. The coordination and cyclic nature of the body motion makes gait as unique characteristics of each individual, thus a good biometric identification approach. The purpose of this paper is to describe some of the problems that make it difficult to apply gait as a biometric identification and use recent literature to show suggestions being made to solve some of these technical issues.
