Evaluation of post COVID-19 conditions and functional disabilities: A cross-sectional survey Renu Mittal, Shweta Singh, Gurudev Choubey, Laijun Nahar, Brunda Bezwada, Nitu Barod, Divya Taneja, G. Ravi Chandra Reddy, D Karthikeyan, Ashish Mahajan, Ramesh Bawaskar, Madhumita Sadhukhan, Arun P Krishnan, Kumar Vivekanand, Ravi Kumar Sardala, Subhash Kaushik, Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan study group Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine, 2026 Objective: To assess the prevalence of post COVID-19 conditions, functional disability impacting daily living, and associated sociodemographic determinants. Methods: In this cross-sectional door-to-door survey, post COVID-19 conditions were identified. Functional impairment was assessed using EuroQoL five-dimension five-level (EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire. Relative risk of symptoms in the COVID-19 positive group as compared to the symptoms in the COVID-19 negative group was calculated. Chi-square test with subsequent Bonferroni's correction was performed to analyze the association of symptoms with age categories, sex and severity of infection. P value <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: Out of 57610 persons surveyed, COVID-19 test reports were available for 34602 (1799 positive and 32 803 negative) respondents. Post COVID-19 complaints were significantly more prevalent in infected individuals, including loss of taste (RR 8.82, 95% CI 4.77-16.31, P <0.01), loss of smell (RR 7.29, 95% CI 3.7414.22, P <0.01), fatigue (RR 2.97, 95% CI 2.56-3.44, P <0.01), muscle pains (RR 1.86, 95% CI 1.59-2.18, P <0.01). EQ-5D-5L scores reflected greater difficulty in mobility, self-care, daily activities, and mental health among the infected group, especially in moderate to severe cases. Conclusions: The survey highlights a significantly higher burden of post COVID-19 complaints and functional limitations among COVID-19 positive individuals. These findings underscore the necessity for long-term management strategies to mitigate the burden of post COVID-19 conditions and poor functional status.
A Comparative Randomized Controlled Trial of Homeopathy versus Allopathy in Acute Otitis Media and Its Recurrence in Children Roja Varanasi, Rupali Bhalerao, Paul Sumithran, Kiranmayee G. Rompicherla, Pramodji Singh, Sunil S. Ramteke, D. Karthikeyan, Dubashi Ramesh, Bhuvaneswari Subbarayalu, Shraddha Chauhan, Jayakrishnan Venugopal, Shravani Kampilli, Ajay Meena, Arvind Kumar, Viqar Ahmed Siddiqui, Praveen Oberai, Raj K. Manchanda Complementary Medicine Research, 2025 Objective: This study evaluates the efficacy of homeopathic treatment for acute otitis media (AOM) in children, comparing outcomes to standard allopathic treatments. Building on promising pilot study results that suggested homeopathy’s non-inferiority, this multicenter trial aimed to validate these findings and assess their broader clinical applicability. Method: This open-label, randomized controlled trial was conducted on children (aged 02 to 12 years), suffering from AOM. Primary outcome was changes in Acute Otitis Media-Severity of Symptoms (AOM-SOS) scale and Tympanic Membrane Examination Scale (TMES) over 21 days and time to improvement in pain through Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FPS-R) over 10 days. The secondary outcomes were the need for antibiotics during acute AOM and the recurrence over 12 months. Results: Intention-to-treat analysis was carried out on 222 children: homeopathy (n = 116) (H group), allopathy (n = 106) (A group). Statistically significant reduction in AOM-SOS+TMES score in H group compared to A group was observed at time point day 3 (mean diff.±SE: 1.67 ± 0.47; 95% CI: 0.75 to 2.59; p = 0.001) and at day 7 (mean diff.±SE: 1.22 ± 0.56; 95% CI: 0.13 to 2.31, p = 0.028) favored homeopathy. However, the median time for FPS-R score to become zero by day 10 (H = 3 days, A = 4 days) was statistically insignificant (p = 0.29). None of the children in the H group required antibiotics, whereas it was required in 14 children (12.4%) in A group. Conclusion: Homeopathic treatment helped in managing AOM in children similar to that of allopathic treatment. Homeopathy can be a safe treatment approach in managing this condition. Further blinded studies are warranted.

This study estimates the individual adherence to using this homeopathic prophylactic within the Indian urban population.A multi-center, cross-sectional, study was conducted across 23 cities in 19 Indian states and union territories from September to November 2022. Participants aged 18 years and above, who had received Arsenicum album 30C within the past month, were included. Adherence was assessed through self-reports. Data were collected in a structured data collection form. Factors influencing adherence were analysed using logistic regression.A total of 23,101 participants completed the survey. Among the participants, 79.89% (n = 18,457) completed the prescribed three-dose regimen, demonstrating high adherence. Older adults (≥61 years) exhibited the highest adherence (84.63%), whereas younger individuals had lower adherence rates. Employment status, gender and socio-economic class were significant predictors of adherence. Participants with a lower perceived risk of COVID-19 showed higher adherence (adjusted odds ratio = 1.86; 95% confidence interval, 1.73 to 1.99; p < 0.0001). Adverse events were reported by 0.1% (n = 22) of participants, with no serious effects observed. The high adherence to Arsenicum album 30C highlights the effectiveness of a structured government distribution program and the potential of homeopathy as a welcomed medication in aiming to enhance public health.

R., Meetu Goel, Sunil Ramteke, D. Karthikeyan, D. D. Arya, Trupti Laxmi Swain, Navita Bagdi, Priyanka Srivastava, R. K. Manchanda, Praveen Oberai Homeopathy, 2024 Background Globally, adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) is one of the most prevalent upper respiratory tract disorders of children, with associated troublesome symptoms such as sleep apnea and cognitive disturbances. In this study, we evaluated the potential role of individualized homeopathic medicines in the management of symptomatic ATH in children. Methods A multicenter prospective observational study was conducted at five institutes under the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, India. Primary and secondary outcomes (symptom score for adenoids, other symptoms of ATH, Mallampati score, tonsillar size, Sleep-Related Breathing Disorder of the Paediatric Sleep Questionnaire [SRBD-PSQ]) were assessed through standardized questionnaires at baseline and at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Radiological investigations for assessing the adenoid/nasopharyngeal (A/N) ratio were carried out at baseline, 6 and 12 months. All analyses were carried out using an intention-to-treat approach. Results A total of 340 children were screened and 202 children suffering from ATH were enrolled and followed up monthly for 12 months. Each patient received individualized homeopathic treatment based on the totality of symptoms. Statistically significant reductions in adenoid symptom score, Mallampati score (including tonsillar size), SRBD-PSQ sleep quality assessment and A/N ratio were found over time up to 12 months (p < 0.001). Homeopathic medicines frequently indicated were Calcarea carbonicum, Phosphorus, Silicea, Sulphur, Calcarea phosphoricum, Pulsatilla, Lycopodium and Tuberculinum. No serious adverse events were recorded during the study period. Conclusion This study suggests that homeopathic medicines may play a beneficial role in the management of symptomatic ATH in children. Well-designed comparative trials are warranted.
Efficacy of Ferrum metallicum 30C in restoring menstrual cycle in polycystic ovarian syndrome patients – A randomised, placebo-controlled, single-blind trial J.P. Jerin, Chaturbhuja Nayak, D. Karthikeyan, Maanasa Rajagopal Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy, 2024 Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age, with the prevalent clinical symptom of irregular menstruation. Objective: This trial assessed the efficacy of Ferr. met. 30C in restoring the menstrual cycle among PCOS patients. Methods: A randomised, placebo-controlled, single-blind trial was conducted at outpatient departments of Sri Sai Ram Homoeopathy Medical College and Research Centre, Chennai. Patients were randomly allotted to the experimental (Group I - Ferr. met. 30C) and control (Group II - Placebo) groups. Quality of life of patients in both groups was assessed through PCOS Questionnaire scale at baseline and at 6th month. Results: Sixty-five patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to Group I (n = 33) and Group II (n = 32). The menstrual cycle got regularised in 48% of Group I patients and 29% of Group II. Data were also compared to see the menstrual restoration period in both the groups. About 48% of participants in group I and 29% in group II had their menses restored after homoeopathic intervention and the difference between the groups was found to be 1.81 (p < 0.05). Improvement in menstrual cycle before and after intervention for patients in both groups showed a significant difference after the intervention (higher in Group I than Group II), confirming the efficacy of intervention in the experimental group: p < 0.05. Conclusion: This trial suggests that Ferr. met. 30C could be effective in restoring the menstrual cycle in PCOS patients. Rigorous trials and independent replications are warranted.
