: Hosting a sporting event that attracts large crowds will increase the number of visitors to an area. This will also boost the tourism, restaurant, and lodging sectors, which in turn will boost the local economy. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview and analysis of the impact of sporting events on tourism in the city of Bandung. A survey was conducted to gather information regarding the impact of sporting events on the tourism sector and the economy in the city of Bandung. A total of 145 respondents, consisting of athletes, parents of athletes, spectators, committee members, and sports professionals, agreed to complete a public observation questionnaire regarding the implementation of sporting events in the city of Bandung. The analysis shows that three types of tourism expenditure—cost of staying at a hotel, cost of meals in restaurants, and cost of visiting tourist attractions—have a positive and significant correlation. The strongest relationship was between food costs and tourist attraction costs (r = 0.776), indicating interrelated consumption patterns. Tourism promotion through sporting events can also encourage local development, community cohesion, and position a region in the tourism market. Government support in the form of policies and sponsorship is key to the success of sporting events.
  • Positive Youth Development: Life Skills Integration in Competition-Based Softball Sports

Journal of Sport and Health Research, 2025
Among softball players, negative attitudes and behaviours are more common than favourable ones. Athletes and coaches who are still focused on reaching goals or winning games impede the growth of other athletes by denying them the chance to compete for a championship. Therefore, through sports activities, a new paradigm must be developed in the sports development process through a life skills integration program to develop life skills, which is a form of positive youth development. The experiment was carried out on teenagers aged 14–18 who were divided into two groups, namely the competition-based life skills integration group and the non-life skills integration group in the sport of softball. A significant difference exists between the competition-based life skills integration group and the non-integration group, as indicated by the independent sample t-test analysis results, which show sig values (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05 for both life skills integration groups. The competition-based integration group's average gain value for life skills is greater than that of the non-integration group, indicating that their rise in life skills is superior to that of the non-integration group. The findings in this study illustrate that participants in softball training activities can apply the life skills domain in their daily activities through the intentional structure of life skills delivered in the softball training program.

    Retos, 2024
Muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2) is an additional physiological parameter that helps identify the transition from aerobic to anaerobic workload. Additionally, it can be used to predict performance by calculating Vo2 and energy expenditure. Muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2) is a measure of oxygen saturation in muscle tissue that can be used to evaluate metabolic zones, training intensity, and athlete performance. An athlete's muscle oxygen saturation (SMO2) is a measure of how well their muscles use oxygen, which is important for evaluating performance and creating training programs. This research is a week-long experimental study with a one-shot case study design, research intends to look at the effect of Vo2Max on muscle oxygen saturation (SMO2) in university badminton athletes. The subjects of this research are student athletes who actively practice badminton. There were 6 respondents who were willing to be research subjects and had met the specified criteria, namely actively exercising three times a week and being in good health. Then the author took data on athletes who had the highest and lowest Vo2Max to analyze SMO2 optimization, which was the focus of this research. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant influence between Vo2max and SMO2 optimization; this can be seen by the difference through the t test with a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05. Another finding is that athletes with higher Vo2max show better SMO2 recovery results. better than athletes with low Vo2max; in this study, athletes with higher Vo2max showed a 37% increase in SMO2 over two minutes, while athletes with lower Vo2max showed a 21% increase. This is an interesting finding for coaches and athletes regarding the importance of Vo2 max capacity in optimizing SMO2.

Various factors influence the quality of life of adolescents, including physical and psychological well-being, self-perception, autonomy, relationships with parents, home life, and lifestyle. Health and satisfaction with health status, personal appearance, and lifestyle are also important factors that influence the quality of life of adolescents. Apart from that, high fat mass and low physical activity are also important factors that influence teenagers' quality of life. This research used quantitative descriptive method, conducted by a survey of 408 respondents who are teenagers aged 14–21 years in the West Java province. Respondents were 306 teenagers from urban areas and 102 people from rural areas. The survey was conducted to analyze the quality of life of teenagers and see the impact of regional demographics (rural and urban) on the quality of life of teenagers. The results of this study show that the overall quality of life of teenagers in both rural and urban areas is in the high category. The analysis shows a significant difference in quality of life between teenagers in rural and urban areas with a significance value of 0.00; however, teenagers in rural areas have a better quality of life than teenagers in urban areas. Additionally, the study found that 3% of teens were obese, 32% were underweight, and 8% were overweight. To improve the quality of life of teenagers, both in cities and in rural areas, participation in sports is very important because it can significantly improve a person's quality of life, especially in terms of health.

The athlete believes that sport is essential for children's growth and maintaining a healthy lifestyle throughout life. To achieve top performance, there needs to be more training and competitions focused on children, but high levels of training and early specialization can conflict with the academic performance of young athletes. This research was conducted to describe the self-discipline of dual-career athletes in the academic environment of students in the university environment, based on individual sports and team sports categories. As many as 96 student athlete respondents in the university environment, consisting of individual and team sports athlete categories, were the respondents in this study. The results of the study show that participation in sports activities has a positive impact on athletes' discipline and their academic atmosphere. The dimension of time management has the highest value, which indicates that sports activities have a very good impact on time management for student athletes. They strongly agree that participating in sports activities helps them develop better time management skills, show discipline, and focus more on set goals. The results of the analysis show that there is no significant difference in discipline between team and individual athletes in the university academic environment. The average discipline value for team athletes is 4.31, while the one-tailed t test value is 0.401, greater than 0.05. However, to make this happen, support from the university is needed to be enable them to carry out their dual career as an athlete and as an academic so that continuity between the academic field and achievement can go hand in hand.

    Science of Gymnastics Journal, 2024
Professional trainers and athletes often neglect the importance of cognitive skills yet they are arguably among the keys to improving athletes’ performance. This study aims to investigate the role of cognitive skills in gymnasts’ performance using the correlational method. The research study included thirty-seven young gymnasts (average age of 18.64 ± 0.83 years old) who regularly participated in and were preparing for competitions. Research data were collected from cognitive skills tests and gymnastic performance reviewed by a professional jury. The findings of this study show that better cognitive abilities led to better gymnastic performance, emphasizing the importance of attention, concentration, memory, visuospatial, language, and executive functions. Further research could longitudinally examine the development of athletes’ cognitive skills and focus on implementing cognitive training to enhance gymnastic performance.

    Fizjoterapia Polska, 2024
Brain function is crucial in achieving peak performance. This can determine a person’s motor control and psychological state, such as motivation, attention, goal setting, memory, self-control, decision-making, and concentration. Spontaneous activity of various physical organs such as the brain, heart, and muscles can be a reference when this behavior occurs. This protocol paper aims to determine whether brain exercises can influence athletes’ brain wave activity and concentration levels. The quasi-experimental method used a pretest-posttest control group design involving 68 futsal athletes. Group 1 will use Brain Gym with instrumental music, Group 2 will use Brain Gym with aromatherapy, and Group 3 will use Brain Gym with both aromatherapy and instrumental music. The research will take place at UNPARI, Lubuklinggau, South Sumatra. The results of this research can serve as a basis for developing mental training methods based on the psychophysiological impact of brain wave activity and athletes’ concentration. This highlights the need for better-designed training programs to optimize performance.

    Retos, 2024
The purpose of this study is to examine student-athlete non-academic performance in the sports faculty. Research on the topic has highlighted the complex interplay between student athletes' identities as athletes and scholars. The author surveyed 319 student-athletes in the sports faculty environment of the Indonesia University of Education. The survey was conducted using the non-cognitive factors affecting student-athlete performance, which include three major indicators such as perceptions of student-athletes from faculty, peers, and the student-athletes themselves; academic experiences of a student-athlete; and awareness of influencing factors. The results show that student-athletes' non-academic performance is in the fair category. The three dimensions show a grade point average of 3.08 for the academic experiences of a student-athlete dimension, 3.19 for the awareness of influencing factors dimension, and 3.14 for the perceptions of student-athlete indicators from faculty, peers, and the student-athlete. Regression analysis shows the contribution of each dimension of non-academic performance of student athletes, showing a relative contribution of 35% perceptions from faculty, peers, and the student athlete, 30% academic experiences, and 35% awareness of influencing factors. The study's findings demonstrate that student athletes' nonacademic performance in sports faculties has negative effects. This condition becomes a challenge for educational institutions to create a special academic arrangement for student-athletes; the continuity of a non-academic situation must be designed to support their academic performance. Futsal sports have high explosive characteristics with moderate-heavy intensity. The increase of cortisol is a biomarker for high-stress situations desirable throughout futsal—that catabolic hormone secreted in a state of physical or psychological stress. Meanwhile, a person's emotions are harmful, such as stress, anxiety, fear, and frustration. The release of the cortisol hormone can activate the sympathetic nervous system, distinguished by an increase in heart rate, and reduce the ability to think and react. Additionally, it represents a role in decreasing mood and muscle fatigue. This study's persistence was to determine the differences in the frequency of futsal practice on physical stress in adolescents (27 boys). This investigation approach is an experimental study in adolescents (13,63±0,84 years old) who perform futsal sports with different futsal frequency groups for ten weeks, specifically 1-time weekly exercise frequency (F1), 3-times weekly exercise frequency (F3), and 5-times weekly exercise frequency (F5). This research had passed the research ethics review issued. The testing results on F1 found no significant improvement in cortisol (51,21±22,66 vs. 61,02±27,69). In F3, there was no significant increase at the cortisol level (57,71±15,45 vs. 61,82±13,57), and in F5 group, there was a significant increase at the cortisol level (51,02±9,38 vs. 70,33±16,36). Interestingly, only the F5 group showed a significant increase at the cortisol level in this study. Anticipated F5 physically attends to be extremely high in the intensity of futsal exercise and induces fatigue and muscle damage that can stimulate an improvement in the endocrine system, constant with enhancing cortisol levels in the blood. This cortisol release can activate the sympathetic nervous system, characterized by a high pulse rate, but it can reduce the ability to think.
