  • Competence, Rewards, and Geographic Proximity in Nutrition Practitioner Performance
Fauzie Rahman, Syamsul Arifin, Rosihan Adhani, Meitria Syahadatina Noor, Husaini Husaini, Muhammad Abdan Shadiqi, Neka Erlyani, Muhamad Muslim
Journal of Public Health and Pharmacy, 2025
Introduction: Based on data from the Indonesian Health Survey, the stunting rate in South Kalimantan Province in 2023 reached 24.7%. The target for reducing the national stunting rate in 2024 is 14%. Nutrition practitioner play a diverse and crucial role in handling stunting, from assessment and education to policy intervention and advocacy. This study aims to determine the effect of competence, appreciation and geographical proximity on the performance of nutrition practitioner with management span as a moderating variable in preventing stunting cases. Methods: This type of research is observational analytic with a cross-sectional design. The location of this research is at the Health Center in the working area of the South Kalimantan Provincial Health Office and the duration of the research is 2 months. The sample of this research is 280 respondents who were taken using the cluster sampling technique. The data collection method uses a questionnaire. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Commission of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University with number No.067/KEPK-FKIK ULM/EC/V/2024 and participants signed the Informed Consent. Results: The findings show that geographical proximity (t = 0.658, p = 0.510) has no significant effect on TPG performance, indicating that the distance between program targets and TPG members does not influence outcomes. In contrast, competence (t = 5.404, p = 0.000), rewards (t = 3.766, p = 0.000), and management range (t = 2.577, p = 0.010) have a significant positive impact on performance, where higher competence and more frequent rewards lead to improved results. The results further demonstrate that management range strengthens the effect of both rewards (t = 3.872, p = 0.000) and competence (t = 3.549, p = 0.000) on performance, indicating that effective coordination enhances their impact. However, the interaction between management range and geographical proximity (t = 0.742, p = 0.458) is not significant, suggesting that distance does not moderate the influence of management range on performance. Conclusion: Competence and reward is the factor influencing performance, while geographical proximity do not show significant influence. Competence, rewards, geographical proximity, and management span simultaneously influence performance with a contribution of 71% (R² = 0.710). This finding suggests the need for organizations to focus on improving TPG competencies through continuous training, skill development, and knowledge enhancement. In addition, it is important to explore other factors outside the research model that may have a significant impact on performance, including intrinsic motivation and better work system support.

Background: Early marriage is a formal or informal marriage performed under the age of 19 years. In Indonesia, cases of early marriage have always been a strategic issue that needs to be addressed because it will have a long-term impact on the health of mothers and children. Objective: The study aimed to analyze the relationship of education, knowledge, perception, family support, and socio-culture to early marriage behavior in women in Banjar Regency. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using Fisher exact test with a 95% confidence level. The education variable was measured based on the respondent's highest educational level. The knowledge variable was measured using a multiple-choice questionnaire. The variable of perception used a list of statements with a Likert scale. Family support and socio-cultural variables use questionnaires with two choices (Yes/No). Results: The results of the analysis of 31 respondents using Fisher's exact test showed education (p-value = 1.000), knowledge (p-value = 0.097), perception (not identified), family support (p-value = 0.237), and socioculture (p-value=0.296). Conclusion: There is no relationship between education, knowledge, perception, family support, and socioculture on early marriage behavior in Banjar Regency. This is because there are many factors that influence early marriage behavior that cannot be investigated in this study, such as attitude, economics, peer support, community leaders, and others.

Success in addressing nutritional problems can be achieved when nutrition implementers possess strong abilities and skills in executing nutritional service program activities at community health centers. High work motivation among nutrition implementers significantly contributes to the successful implementation of these programs. This study aims to analyze the influence of work experience, competence, and reward provision on the work motivation of nutrition implementers. This research employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The population consists of all nutrition implementers in South Kalimantan Community Health Centers' work area in Indonesia. A sample of 253 respondents was selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument utilized was a questionnaire, and data analysis involved simple linear regression analysis. The findings indicate a significant effect of work experience on work motivation, with a significance value of .00 < .05. However, competence does not have a significant impact on work motivation, as its significance value is .098 > .05. Similarly, reward provision does not significantly influence work motivation, with a significance value of .439 > .05. In conclusion, work experience significantly affects the work motivation of nutrition implementers. Therefore, efforts to enhance the motivation of nutrition implementers are essential, as they will ultimately improve the effectiveness of nutrition service programs in health centers, contributing to the prevention of stunting and the overall enhancement of public health.
