Investigating the connection between diabetes drugs and weight loss in patients with type II diabetes mellitus: A prospective cohort study P. Jagadeesh Chandra Prasad, Y. Lavanya, P. Nikhileswar Reddy, D. Shameera Banu, Thamineni Rajavardhana Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health, 2025
Abstract:

Introduction
Diabetes mellitus is the most common of the endocrine disorders. It is a chronic condition, characterized by hyperglycemia and due to impaired insulin secretion with or without insulin resistance. American Diabetes Association (ADA) defines diabetes mellitus as a group of metabolic diseases characterized by inappropriate hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both.
Aim
To investigate the correlation between different diabetic medications and weight fluctuations in individuals diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) through a prospective cohort study.
Methods
A Prospective Cohort study was conducted among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. 410 volunteer patients were participated in our study. Out of them 18 members were excluded and 392 were included based on our study criteria.
Results
In this study we explored the relationship between Diabetic medications and type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Our study shows that Metformin 500 mg and Voglibose 0.2 mg has significant association with GRBS Levels and Metformin 500 mg has significant association with weight loss. We also observed slight increase in weight in case of Glimepiride 1mg & Glimepiride 2 mg but which is not clinically significant. Slight weight loss is observed in Sitagliptin 100 mg, Teneligliptin 20 mg, Vildagliptin 50 mg and Voglibose 0.2 mg but out of which those are not clinically significant.
Conclusion
Our findings underscore the importance of individualized medication management strategies tailored to optimize both glycaemic control and weight outcomes in type 2 diabetes mellitus management. Continued research in this area is essential to refine treatment guidelines and improve clinical outcomes for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.

Comparative Analysis of Knowledge, Awareness and Practice towards rational use of face masks between healthcare and non-healthcare individuals during the COVID-19 Pandemic Vigneshwaran Easwaran, Mantargi Mohammad Jaffar Sadiq, Sirajudeen Shaik Alavudeen, Sultan Mohammed Alshahrani, Noohu Abdulla Khan, Thamineni Rajavardhana, Malini Sivasankara Pillai Research Journal of Pharmacy and Technology, 2023 Background: During the current pandemic, the use of face masks is considered one of the major preventive strategies to control the spread of virus. The improper use of face masks may lead to serious consequences. The rational use of face masks requires an appropriate knowledge and awareness. It may vary between the health care and non-health care individuals. Aims: To explore the knowledge, awareness and practice towards the rational use and disposal of face masks among health care and non-health care individuals. Methodology: It is a cross sectional questionnaire based study conducted among the selected towns of five different states of south India. The study participants were grouped into healthcare professionals (Group 1) non-health care individuals (Group 2). The frequency of correct responses to all the items were calculated individually for both the groups and was compared by using chi square test. Results: A total of 128 health care professionals and 301 non health care individuals were included in this study. The majority of the subjects in group 1 uses medical/surgical mask or N95 masks, whereas the group 2 subjects uses cloth/fabric masks. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of knowledge and awareness about the use and disposal of face masks. Conclusion: This study revealed that both the group members were having enough knowledge, awareness and practice towards the appropriate use of face masks. The knowledge and awareness about the used face mask disposal is minimal.
Level of adherence to anti-tubercular treatment among drug-sensitive tuberculosis patients on a newly introduced daily dose regimen in South India: A cross-sectional study Rajavardhana Thamineni, Ramalingam Peraman, Jayakumar Chenniah, Geethavani Meka, Ashok Kumar Munagala, Vijayakumar Thangavel Mahalingam, Rajanandh Muhasaparur Ganesan Tropical Medicine and International Health, 2022 IntroductionTuberculosis (TB) patients on the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) treatment protocol receive daily doses without health professional‐supervised drug intake as during the previous directly observed treatment short‐course (DOTS) regimen. We aimed to measure the level of adherence to anti‐tubercular treatment (ATT) and the reasons for non‐adherence among drug‐sensitive TB patients on a daily‐dose regimen in South India.MethodsA cross‐sectional study was conducted among TB patients who received ATT as part of the standard treatment protocol in NTEP. Patients were interviewed to capture their understanding of TB, adherence, and the reason for non‐adherence to ATT using validated instruments. Urine drug metabolite testing was performed using the high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique to confirm adherence.ResultsA total of 488 patients were recruited for the study. 64.8% of patients had ‘good knowledge’ about TB and ATT. According to the subjective report, 63.7% of patients were adherent, but urine drug metabolite testing revealed 53.4% adherence. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) exists between subjective and objective adherence measures. Patient‐reported reasons for non‐adherence were side effects of ATT (18.6%), loss of daily wages (15.0%), and forgetfulness (10.0%), among others.ConclusionsNearly half of the patients were non‐adherent to the daily dosing regimen. Adherence as reported by the patients is unreliable, and urine testing could be used in routine care to assess adherence.Clinical Trial Registration and NumberCTRI/2020/04/024941.
Role of mhealth in the management of tuberculosis: A new approach to improve adherence Rajavardhana T, Rajanandh M G, Geethavani M, Sreedhar V International Journal of Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2020 Compliance with Tuberculosis (TB) treatment is essential in enhancing singly and public health as well. may come out with suffering, disease worsening, and mortality and also leads to increased economic burden to the patients. Through this article, we want to explore new ideas to strengthen medication adherence with the assistance of approaches to monitor and enhance TB patient's medication-taking behavior. have more success rates in particular parts, whereas its limitations in improving the adherence can be understood in the world health organization End Tuberculosis plan of action. To provide disease and treatment-related education to the patients, apps should be of educational worth to patients by delivering classified information, which is easily accessible to the patients and caregivers. Hurdles to TB treatment compliance are noteworthy and multiple. Mobile health accounts for an arising field with significant promises to locate barriers, thus enhancing every single individual and community health and health care systems planning.
CORPUS CALLOSAL AGENESIS WITH CENTRAL PONTINE MYELINOLYSIS: A RARE CASE L. Reddenna Y. Yamini Journal of Medical Pharmaceutical and Allied Sciences, 2019 A case of corpus callosum agenesis associated with a central pontine myelinolysis is described. It is the foremost white matter structure in the brain and the chief commissural pathway linking the hemispheres of the human brain. The corpus callosum, or a definite part of it, can be pretentious selectively. Corpus callosum agenesis is a congenital disorder which includes whole or fractional absence of the corpus callosum. Callosal disorders are characterized by vision impairments, poor motor coordination, hypotonia, delays in sitting and walking, delayed toilet training and chewing, swallowing difficulties and low perception of pain,. It can also be associated with spasticity, seizures, early feeding difficulties and/or gastric reflux, hearing impairments, abnormal head and facial features, and a mental handicap.
