Types of Empowerments on Improving Hypertension among Elderly: A Systematic Review Tri Nurhidayati, Ah Yusuf, Retno Indarwati Malaysian Journal of Nursing, 2024 Introduction: Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease, often referred to as the silent killer disease, that mostly affects the elderly. Changes in body condition and unhealthy lifestyles cause hypertension in the elderly. Hypertension is basically a cause of high mortality and impacts expensive care for the elderly. The caregiver's lack of ability is one of the triggers for the severity of hypertension. The caregiver plays a crucial role in helping elderly people with hypertension become independent. Research on the empowerment of caregivers of elderly hypertensives is very diverse, but research on the most effective empowerment for caregivers is limited. Objective: This study aims to investigate the type of empowerment that improves hypertension in the elderly. Methods: The online databases include Science Direct, ProQuest, PubMed, Sage, Ebscohost, and Google Scholar. Articles were reviewed from 2018 to 2022. Protocol and evaluation of literature review using the PRISMA checklist and the Joanna Briggs Institute Guidelines. Results: A total of 15 articles define the types of empowerments, comprising 6 types of such as family empowerment (4 articles), social support (4 articles), adaptation (2 articles), education (3 articles), dyadic partnership (1 article), and multidisciplinary (1 article). The development of a caregiver empowerment model is expected to increase the ability to care for the elderly and have an impact on the self-management of hypertension. Conclusions: Empowering caregivers for elderly people with hypertension is an important step in ensuring that elderly people receive optimal care and are able to better manage their hypertension condition. The most common were family empowerment and social support.
Self-efficacy in older adults with depression: a qualitative study Tri Nurhidayati, Atika Alfia Rizki, Dewi Setyawati, Ah Yusuf, Retno Indarwati Healthcare in Low Resource Settings, 2024 Older people suffering from depression often exhibit low self-efficacy, which causes them to quickly give up on challenges caused by various problems related to ageing, such as physical, social and mental aspects, including depression, which ultimately impact their quality of life and productivity. Depression in the elderly is caused by physical, psychological, and social interactions with other people, especially caregivers in nursing homes. This study employed a phenomenological approach to analyse self-efficacy among older adults suffering from depression through qualitative inquiries. The participants who met the inclusion criteria lived in nursing homes for more than one year and experienced depression. In-depth interviews were conducted using a structured guide with a general self-efficacy scale (GSES), Indonesian version. The study was conducted in an older adult nursing home in 2022 with 14 older adults. The results were divided into four themes – accompanying performance, vicarious learning, verbal encouragement and emotional states – and indicated that older adults with depression experienced poor self-efficacy and described how to cope with poor self-efficacy.

The population of the research was the students in the second semester of the undergraduate program in nursing Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang. The sample of the research was 83 respondents, which were taken using a purposive sampling technique. RESULTS: Most of the nursing students were positive coping with 47 respondents (56.6%), severe burnout with 71 respondents (85.5%), and fatigue was found in 40 respondents (48.2%); meanwhile, the rest 43 respondents (52.8%) did not experience fatigue. Base on Pearson test, there was a significant correlate between nursing students coping and fatigue (0.00) with moderate correlation at 0.518, although no correlation coping with burnout.
