    This research investigates the performance of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) aided coded Multi-Carrier Interleave Division Multiple Access (MC-IDMA) systems in cognitive spectrum sharing for downlink transmission. By combining Vertical-Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time Architecture (V-BLAST) and Space-Time Block Code (STBC), the proposed system achieves higher capacity and data rate. This study explores the use of cognitive radio networks to access unused TV band spectrum and allocate it to mobile users. Multi-carrier modulation is employed to enhance resilience to channel dispersion. At the mobile station, channel matrix rearrangement and detection algorithms, such as Zero-Forcing and Minimum-Mean-Square-Error (MMSE), are implemented to extract information efficiently. An iterative decoder based on maximum-a-posteriori probability is utilized to mitigate interference from multiple users and AWGN channels. The research findings demonstrate that the joint transmit scheme with MMSE detection offers efficient data rate performance. The proposed Cognitive MIMO MC-IDMA architecture provides improved bit-error-rate results at lower Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) levels while offering higher bandwidth. This research contributes to the advancement of cognitive radio technology and enhances the performance of wireless communication systems.
  • Quasi Z-source DC-DC Converter with Supercapacitor for Photovoltaic Application

    This paper illustrates the behavior and analysis of charging and discharging of a supercapacitor connected to a photovoltaic system. Here, a quasi Z-source DC to DC power converter is used as the interfacing power circuit to condition the PV power. The mathematical and SIMULINK models of the supercapacitor, PV, and converter are presented. The SIMULINK model of the MPPT algorithm is also explained. Perturb and Observe technique is used to arrive the maximum power region. The simulation results are presented and examined to evidence that the maximum power is harvested. It also showed that the energy storage is achieved with supercapacitor.
  • Dual Input Quasi Z-Source DC to DC Converter

    The configuration of a dual input quasi Z-source DC-DC converter is purported in this paper. Two input voltage sources can be independently connected to the circuit. These sources can drive the load either individually or collectively. This converter is derived from impedance source converters, so the boosting operation is also achieved. So this converter is mostly suitable for renewable energy applications with source of photovoltaic array, fuel cell or wind turbine at one input and battery or other storage units at the other input. This converter boosts the input voltage with a high voltage gain with mitigated voltage stress across the devices and capacitors. The operation of the converter is presented along with four possible operating states. The concepts are illustrated through simulation results.

    Z-source converters are recently premised DC-DC converters which can perform buck and boost operations, offer greater range of DC output voltage, high reliability and reduce in-rush and ripple currents. In photovoltaic (PV) applications, they provide better results compared to conventional DC-DC converters. These converters can be used as power conditioning units, so that the voltage boost and reception of maximum power from the PV array can be achieved. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is here achieved by controlling the duty cycle of the converter. A fuzzy logic control based MPPT is developed in this work to track the maximum power point of the PV array under variable solar irradiance and temperature conditions. MATLAB simulation and experimental results are given to establish the developed system.

    A new stateflow based maximum power point tracking technique is proposed for photovoltaic systems with Z-source DC-DC converter as the conditioning converter. The mathematical modeling of photovoltaic systems is presented. The new method of incremental conductance based MPPT technique is simulated with an interfacing Z-source dc to dc converter. This converter operates in bidirectional power flow mode, performs buck and boost functions and improves reliability as compared to other existing dc - dc converters. This paper studies the performance of photovoltaic systems under rapidly changing irradiance levels. The incremental conductance algorithm is selected to track the maximum power point. The simulations are presented and analyzed to prove that the proposed system receive the maximum power under varying irradiance levels.
  • Quasi Z-source inverter with improved incremental conductance MPPT for rapidly varying solar irradiation

    The photovoltaic (PV) energy and its conversion into electrical energy has a raising importance in the renewable energy marketplace. It is essential to harvest the maximum power from the PV arrays since they have very low conversion efficiency. This process requires the power electronic converter as the power conditioning device. The quasi Z-source inverter is chosen as power conditioning device because of its capability of boosting and DC to AC conversion in single stage. An improved incremental conductance maximum power point tracking algorithm is developed with the aim to prevent the bewilderedness during rapidly changing solar irradiation. This algorithm controls the shoot-through duty cycle of the inverter to attain the maximum power point of the PV array. A novel modified space vector pulse width modulation technique with four shoot-through states is proposed for the inverter to control the inverter. Simulation and experimental results are provided to establish the performance of the proposed system. The comparison with the conventional algorithm is also presented.
