    Comunicata Scientiae, 2025
Blueberry is a crop commonly associated with temperate climates. Depending on the species, it may appear as semi-prostrate plants, shrubs, or small trees of varying heights. With the emergence of cultivars from the Southern Highbush group, several countries in the Southern Hemisphere have invested in blueberry cultivation, driven by global demand, economic profitability, and the versatile use of the fruit, especially considering its nutraceutical properties. Blueberries are a high-value fruit with strong market potential, which has led to increased local interest in cultivation, encouraged by state policies that promote crop diversification to enhance the value of agricultural production in the state. This study aims to provide data to support blueberry cultivation in the state of Ceará. Three blueberry cultivars (Biloxi, Biloxi XL, and Emerald) were evaluated under the climatic conditions of the Baturité massif region. Five morphological descriptors and nine productive descriptors were analyzed. Regarding productive aspects, ‘Biloxi’ achieved the best results in terms of fruit size and quantity. The Biloxi cultivar demonstrated greater hardiness under climatic conditions. Alternative cultivation systems to fertigation require further research, as inadequate practices may prevent cultivars from reaching their maximum productive potential.

The use of nitrogen-fixing bacteria reduces the use of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers. However, salt stress can negatively affect the establishment of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF). In this context, the aim was to evaluate the use of brackish water at different phenological stages on the gas exchange and mineral composition of inoculated and non-inoculated peanut crops. The experimental design used was completely randomized, following a 5x2 factorial arrangement, with four replications, using five irrigation strategies with brackish water with an electrical conductivity of 5.0 dS m-1 applied at different phenological stages of the crop: E1 - at 14 days after sowing - DAS (vegetative stage); E2 - at 25 DAS (flowering stage); E3 - at 36 DAS (gynophore emergence stage); E4 - at 46 DAS (pod formation stage); and E5 - control, and inoculated and non-inoculated plants. The earlier the salt stress is applied, the lower the gas exchange in the peanut crop, with more significant effects up to 36 DAS, the phase of gynophore emergence and elongation, so plants inoculated with rhizobia show greater efficiency in the use of brackish water. Similarly, from 36 DAS onwards, leaf mineral content decreases, with the exception of sodium, which increases. It is recommended to use brackish water associated with the use of Bradyrhizobium spp. in the pod formation stage of the peanut crop.

Peanuts are an important legume for the Northeastern Brazilian market, but their production in this region is low. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of biofertilizer doses on peanut nodulation and production components, to define the best dose and genotype. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design (DBC) in a 3 x 3 factorial arrangement, with three replications. The treatments consisted of two evaluation factors: 1) Fertilization via different doses of organic fertilizer applied to the substrate (D1 = 0mL; D2 = 500mL; and D3 = 1000mL); and 2) Peanut genotypes (BR-1, UNI43 and UNI08). The following traits were assessed: number of nodules per plant (NNP), number of mature pods (NVM), pod mass per plant (MVP), seed mass per plant (MSP) and root length (CR). Peanut production is affected by fertilization via bovine biofertilizer, mainly for the components NVM, MVP and MSP. Besides, nodulation is a likely conditioner. The 1000mL dose proved to be the best treatment for the traits analyzed, and UNI08 accession, the most responsive material.

    Revista Ambiente E Agua, 2021
This work evaluated the effects of water salinity on the physiological indices in inoculated and non-inoculated peanut plants. The study was carried out in a protected environment at the seedling production unit (UPMA) at Campus das Auroras, at the University for International Integration of the Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB), Redenção, Ceará. The experimental design used was in a completely randomized (CRD), with treatments in a factorial arrangement, 5x2, referring to the five salinity levels of the irrigation water - CEa: 0.5, 1.5, 3, 4.5, and 6.0 dSm-1, and inoculated and non-inoculated plants with a mix of rhizobia SEMIA 630, lot 0810, and SEMIA 6144, lot 0312, from Bradyrhizobium sp., isolated, with four replications. Recommended fertilization was done for phosphorus (62.5 kg ha-1 of P) and potassium (50 kg ha-1 of K) to supply the nutritional needs of the plants. The nutritional effect caused by symbiosis with Bradyrhizobium sp. favored inoculated plants to present greater tolerance to salt stress. The availability of nitrogen collaborated to increase the efficiency of plant physiological mechanisms. Uninoculated plants, even with a higher amount of chlorophyll and CO2, were not efficient in the photosynthetic rate. Saline stress affected photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, internal CO2 concentration, water use efficiency, and chlorophyll; however, with less intensity when inoculated with Bradyrhizobium sp. The increase in salinity on irrigation water increased the leaf temperature.

Over the last three years, Brazil has been ranked among the three largest producers of papaya. This study aimed to evaluate the acceptance and commercial standard of papaya fruits according to their sensory traits and provide information about the organoleptic and qualitative aspects of the fruit. Ten papaya genotypes grown in Linhares-ES were investigated, arranged in a randomized block design with four replications. Ten fruits from each genotype were randomly collected from each replication, which totaled 40 fruits per genotype. The fruit harvest was performed at stage 1 of maturation. The following genotypes were assessed: hybrids UC13, UC14, UC15 and UC16, from the 'Solo' group; hybrids UC03, UC10 and UC12, from the 'Formosa' group; and 'Golden', 'Calimosa' and 'Tainung 01', which were used as controls. The sensory evaluation of the genotypes was carried out in full balanced design by 50 evaluators. When submitted to sensory analysis, the hybrids showed high performance compared to the controls of each group. Traits such as aroma, flavor and overall impression were crucial in the selection carried out by the appraisers of the hybrids assessed. The hybrids UC10, UC12, UC14 and UC16 were the most accepted and preferred, respectively, in purchase intention.

    Revista Ciencia Agronomica, 2018
ABSTRACT Nitrogen is one of the nutrients most demandedby popcorn, and one that most increases production costs. Considering these factors, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of inoculatingpopcorn seeds with Azospirillum brasilense together with four levels of nitrogen fertiliser, and its contribution to characteristics related to production. The experiment was carried out in the experimental area of the Centre for Agrarian Sciences and Biodiversity of the Federal University of Cariri, in Crato, in the State of Ceará. Eight treatments were evaluated with four replications, using an experimental design of randomised blocks in a 2x4 factorial scheme corresponding to the presence and absence of inoculation, and to four doses of nitrogen as top dressing. The following characteristics were evaluated: plant height, height of ear insertion, number of plants, number of lodged plants, number of broken plants, number of poorly husked ears, ear diameter, ear length, number of ears, number of diseased ears, number of infested ears, grain productivity, ear weight, mean 100-grain weight, and expansion capacity. There were significant differences for most of the characteristics under evaluation, with an increase of 17.18% in the number of ears and 10.78% in grain productivity, reducing the top dressing to 50 kg ha-1 in the presence of A. brasiliensi. These results demonstrate the potential for economisingnitrogen fertiliser in popcorn production under the soil and climate conditions of the Cariri region of the State of Ceará.
