  • Students' mathematical literacy in terms of metacognitive awareness
Nita Hidayati, Yohanes Leonardus Sukestiyarno, Emi Pujiastuti, Sugiman Sugiman, Stevanus Budi Waluya
    Infinity Journal, 2025
Research on mathematical literacy has been done, but mathematical literacy in metacognitive awareness has not been done much. This study aimed to analyze mathematical literacy in terms of students' metacognitive awareness. This research is qualitative. The instruments used are literacy tests and Metacognitive Awareness Inventory questionnaires. The research subjects consisted of 3 students with high metacognitive awareness and three students with moderate metacognitive awareness. Data evaluation employed a dynamic framework: gathering information, minimizing data, displaying data, and making conclusions. Students with high metacognitive awareness could complete all literacy indicators, namely, evaluating mathematical results in the context of the given problem, paying attention to important information again, and checking the calculations made. The pattern of metacognitive awareness of students with high metacognitive awareness is monitoring their declarative knowledge to identify problems and evaluate solutions. Meanwhile, students with moderate metacognitive awareness solve problems up to the level of using math to make a problem-solving plan. The pattern of metacognitive awareness of students with moderate metacognitive awareness is that they do not monitor the problem-solving steps. Continuous development is needed to determine the level of development of mathematical literacy by paying attention to students' metacognitive awareness. Through this research, further research on metacognitive awareness will be developed.
  • Promoting Mathematics Problem-Solving Ability in Gamification Integration Using Augmented Reality
Emi Pujiastuti, Sugiman Sugiman, Muslih Pambudi
European Journal of Educational Research, 2025
The use of technology in education aims to improve students' problem-solving skills so that they have the skills needed by 21st century society in dealing with various kinds of challenges and problems. This study was carried out aiming to obtain the characteristics of augmented reality-based learning media for mathematics learning in student problem-solving skill, and obtain the results of the average difference in the problem-solving abilities of junior high school students. This research and development (R&D) study, employing the (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) ADDIE model, investigated Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media for mathematics to enhance junior high school students' problem-solving skills. The aim was to identify characteristics of effective AR media and assess their impact on problem-solving abilities. Quantitative data, collected from student problem-solving tests, were analyzed using a t-test in SPSS. The AR media featured virtual manipulation, virtual measurement tools, and real-world problem exploration. While the experimental group using AR showed a higher average problem-solving score compared to the control group using Problem-Based Learning (PBL), the difference was not statistically significant (t (df) = 0.638, Cohen's d = 0.0876). This lack of significance, despite the higher mean, is likely due to a small sample size and the limited integration timeframe, coupled with pre-existing skill variations. Future research should address these limitations to further explore the potential of AR in mathematics education.

    F T Sumaryanto, F Ahmadi, Sugiman, G Yuanbing
Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2019
Abstract UNNES has Regulation of Rector, No. 19 Year 2016, which contains 12 ethics/characters for students. So, lecturers need to know how to evaluate the character values. While Guangxi Normal University (GXNU) of China is known to have some Ethics too for university level. Its follow up, then we need go to a university in China, namely: Guangxi Normal University (GXNU) and Prof. Dr. Guo Yuanbing as our Partner Lecturer. Questions: How does Mathematics lecturer at GXNU evaluate the values of the characters that grow on the students? Method of this research is Qualitative approach. The research subjects: Some of Local Students of GXNU were selected and some of GXNU lecturers. Main activities in GXNU: With guided by Prof. Dr. Guo Yuanbing, we do observation in class, interviews, triangulation, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in GXNU. The results: There were 5 character values in GXNU, which became the focus of GXNU’s lecturers to be evaluated, namely: (1) Civility, (2) Harmony. (3) Freedom. (4) Rule of Law. (5) Integrity. In addition, also found how GXNU Mathematics lecturer in assessing the growth of student characters.
  • Utilization of manipulative teaching aids to grow the numerical ability of students with disabilities
Sugiman, H Suyitno, Rochmad, I Junaedi
Journal of Physics Conference Series, 2019
Children with disabilities (CwD) have limitations in conceptual understanding of mathematics. Lack of numerical conceptual understanding will cause CwD to experience difficulty in counting. The purpose of this case study was to analyze the growth of numerical abilities of students with disabilities through the application of manipulative teaching aids. This research method used a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were students of the seventh grade of the State Extraordinary School of Salatiga (SLBN) who had limited vision, mind, hearing, or speech impairment. After the results of the students' work were corrected, the qualitative data analysis was done by analyzing the results of the test, interview, and triangulation data. The results of this research: Through the use of Manipulative Teaching Aids, the numerical abilities of CwD could be improved and developed. It is recommended that teachers in ES should use Manipulative Teaching Aids so that the numerical abilities of CwD can be improved and developed.
