Torque Ripple Reduction in MPDTC of SRM Drives Using Optimized Switching States and Advanced Torque Sharing Function K. Dhineshkumar, G. Prakash, K Eswaramoorthy, G. Ramya International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications, 2026 ABSTRACT The combination of model predictive control and direct torque control approached for switched reluctance motor, multiple switch state combinations should be traversed, which may lead to complex calculations. To solve this problem, a torque compensation‐based enhanced model predictive direct torque control for switched reluctance motor (SRM) with switching states restructuration is proposed. However, effective torque and flux control remain challenging due to highly nonlinear magnetic characteristics and significant torque ripple. The first strategy employs an eight‐sector switching state allocation method for precise position‐based control. The second strategy implements a torque compensation algorithm integrated with a torque sharing function, which selects the phase exhibiting superior torque tracking for compensation. The proposed model is implemented and validated through MATLAB‐based simulations. The performance of the proposed model is compared with existing model predictive direct torque control methods, with a primary focus on minimizing torque ripple. Experimental results show that the proposed strategy can effectively reduce the torque ripple by 38.7%. The proposed control techniques, which analyze variable speed and dynamic operation, are primarily intended for traction motor drive applications. The real‐time hardware controller implements the proposed techniques to enable analysis of additional performance parameters.
Comparative analysis of optimization techniques for optimal EV charging station placement Deepa Somasundaram, G. Prakash, N. Rajavinu, D. Lakshmi, P. Kavitha, V. Devaraj International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2025 The optimal placement of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations plays a crucial role in improving accessibility, reducing travel distances, and minimizing infrastructure costs in smart urban planning. This study presents a comparative analysis of traditional optimization techniques-such as linear programming (LP), particle swarm optimization (PSO), k-means clustering, and greedy heuristic methods-alongside a machine learning-based approach using genetic algorithms (GA). A machine learning framework is implemented to simulate EV charging demand, optimize station deployment, and incorporate real-world constraints like cost, grid capacity, and user travel penalties. The results demonstrate that GA achieves superior performance in balancing cost-efficiency and user convenience, outperforming traditional techniques in solution quality under dynamic demand conditions. PSO and LP provide faster convergence but are less adaptive to changing parameters. The study highlights the potential of integrating machine learning into infrastructure planning and provides actionable insights for urban planners and policymakers in developing resilient and intelligent EV charging networks.
Artificial Intelligence-Based Power Management System for a DC Micro-Grid G. Prakash, R. Dharmaprakash, M.S. Sujatha Ssrg International Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2025 An advanced approach to a power management system for DC microgrids with a combined solar PV and wind energy system and battery storage is presented here. It began by implementing controllers, including fuzzy logic and FO-PID-based control for renewable management with double FO-PID controls for battery operations. Power-output stabilization was obtained effectively by the fuzzy-FO-PID system, but equipment stability suffered from rapid power fluctuations. The controller system installed in source-side converters seeks to extract maximum power output from wind turbines and PV arrays, improving microgrid stability and reliability. A FO-PID controller is an additional control mechanism that specifically operates on the battery storage system to monitor its charging and discharging activities for enhanced battery operation and balanced energy distribution. The research focuses on enhancing the operational connection between the costs of renewable energy systems throughout the system. An ANN-based Radial Basis Neural Network (RBN) controller was designed to regulate solar and wind power outputs, but the battery management system kept its double FO-PID controller. The ANN-RBN controller formed an advanced control system because its adaptive learning capabilities enhanced tracking of dynamic events, along with minimizing voltage swings to enhance power quality. MATLAB/Simulink simulations will be performed to evaluate the ANN-RBN controller’s effectiveness in stabilizing DC microgrid performance, with comparisons made against the conventional fuzzy-FO-PID controller in terms of voltage stability and disturbance response under varying operating conditions. The novelty of the work lies in integrating a hybrid control scheme that combines an ANN-RBN controller for adaptive renewable power regulation with a double FO-PID strategy for battery management, enabling stable energy distribution alongside improved power quality.
Power Quality Enhancement in Grid Connected Wind-PV Hybrid Systems with UPQC Control Using Whale Optimization Algorithm R. Anand, S. Daison Stallon, D. Saravanakumar, G. Prakash Automation and Remote Control, 2025 Abstract This paper outlines a method for improving power quality in grid-connected wind-photovoltaic hybrid systems that employs a unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) optimized by the whale optimization algorithm (WOA). The system includes a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) for conversion of wind energy, which connects the rotor side converter (RSC) and grid side converter (GSC) via a DC-link capacitor to ensure efficient energy transfer and voltage stability. The UPQC is made up of a series active filter to reduce voltage disturbances like sags and swells, and a shunt active filter to deal with the existing concerns like harmonics and imbalance. The suggested WOA-based control dynamically adapts UPQC parameters in real time, making it more adaptable to changing wind and load circumstances. A comparison with existing techniques indicates the superiority of the suggested method, which achieves a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 1%, voltage sag of 0.75%, and voltage swell of 0.66%. These results show much superior performance than traditional approaches like ANFIS-fuzzy logic, PID, and ANN-based controllers. The proposed approach not only provides consistent and clean power injection into the grid, but it also improves system dependability and efficiency.

Enhanced Thermal and Physiochemical Performance of Eco-friendly Jatropha Oil Using Fe3O4 Nanoparticle for Transformer Applications R. Madavan, S. Sundaramahalingam, G. Prakash, S. Senthil Kumar, Abderrahmane Beroual IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2025 This study investigates how introduction of Fe3O₄ nanoparticles to Jatropha oil can improve its thermal and physical characteristics and increase its potential as an environmentally acceptable substitute transformer insulating liquid. To ensure purity, Jatropha oil is refined by dehydrating, neutralizing, and bleaching it. Nanoparticles are dehumidified, ultrasonically sonicated, and homogenized to prepare nanofluids at different concentrations (0.5% to 2.5%). A thorough investigation is conducted in what way Fe3O₄ nanoparticles affect important factors such as thermal conductivity, viscosity, flash, and fire points. Results evidences 23.61% improvement of thermal conductivity at 2.50% concentration, and 8.53% and 11.05% improvement of flash point and fire point performance at 2.50% nanoparticle concentration. Also maximum of 61.13% reduction in viscosity is reported for the concentration of 0.5% at 90oC. This indicates enhancement in heat dissipation and reduction in flammability. These changes imply that Jatropha oil blended with Fe3O₄ nanoparticles has encouraging potential as a high-performance, environmentally friendly liquid insulation in transformer applications.
