FUTURE PROJECTS

THE MANY FACES TRANSLATED IN THE POETIC WORKS OF EDGAR ALLAN POE

Edgar Allan Poe is regarded as one of the greatest writers of his generation, and Charles Baudelaire’s translations paved the way for Poe’s worldwide recognition. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of two translations of the poems “The City in the Sea” (1831), “Silence” (1837), and “A Dream Within a Dream” (1849), one by the Portuguese translator Margarida Vale de Gato (2011) and the other by the Brazilian translator Milton Amado (2009), as this will make it possible to identify how the translators’ choices influence the reception of the American writer’s work, thereby enriching the translation of poetry from English into Portuguese . The aim is to preserve the most characteristic elements of each poem, so that the new translations can expand knowledge of Poe’s poetry in Brazil.
