Hybrid Oligomeric Metal Complex: A Dual Electron Transport Medium for Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Basil A. Abdullah, Raed K. Zaidan, Hanan A. Al‐Hazam, Hameed A. Al‐Attar Physica Status Solidi A Applications and Materials Science, 2026 A new hybrid monomer ligand, termed B8HQOXD 5 , is successfully synthesized. This ligand is composed of 5,5′‐((((1,3,4‐oxadiazole‐2,5‐diyl)bis(1,4‐phenylene))bis(azanediyl))bis(methylene))bis(quinolin‐8‐ol). The corresponding oligomer metal complex, B8HQOXD–Zn(II) 6 , is also designed and synthesized. Through meticulous spectroscopic analyses, we have explored the luminescent behavior of our oligomer 6 as a function of temperature and time. This exploration has revealed three distinct luminance emissions, each mirroring a distinct structural aspect of oligomer 6 . These emissions have been meticulously correlated with various origin groups, offering a comprehensive understanding of the oligomeric structure. When compound 6 is utilized at low concentrations, it demonstrates promising electron‐transport properties in solution‐processed organic light‐emitting diodes with a specific device structure: glass/indium tin oxide/PEDOT:PSS/PVK + 10% [ 6 ] + 4% Ir(ppy) 3 /LiF/Al.
Synthesis, Structural Analysis, and Theoretical Study of Amino Acid-Copper (II) Complexes via XRD and DFT Nahed Hazim Al-Haidery, Hanan Abduljaleel Al-Hazam, Nuha Hussain Al-Saadawy Trends in Sciences, 2025 New amino acid derivatives were synthesized to create copper (II) complexes, with the binding site influenced by pH levels. These complexes, derived from amino acids like alanine, histidine, tryptophan, and lysine, were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, including IR, UV-Vis, and X-ray diffraction, which confirmed their expected crystal forms. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to analyze the electronic structures and stability of the complexes, revealing a correlation between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), energy gaps and their reactivity, thus aiding in the rational design of these compounds for applications in catalysis and biomimetic chemistry. HIGHLIGHTS New complexes were successfully prepared by reacting amino acids with terephthaloyl isothiocyanate (TPI). Study the reactivity of the isothiocyanate group (–N=C=S) of TPI with the amino (–NH₂) and carboxyl (–COOH) functional groups in amino acids. FT-IR: Confirm bond formation (e.g., C=O, C=S, N–H stretching vibrations) and peak shifts due to complexation. NMR (1H): Identify chemical shift changes indicative of coordination or hydrogen bonding. X-ray diffraction (XRD): Determine crystallinity or amorphous nature. Optimized geometry, HOMO-LUMO energies, and global reactivity descriptors (e.g., hardness, electrophilicity). GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT
BIOCHEMICAL STUDY OF NEW CHALCONE BASED ON CHROMONYL THIADIAZOLINE DERIVATIVE ZAINAB KADHIM AL-KHAZRAGIE, HANAN A AL-HAZAM, SABAH ABBAS MALİK Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical and Clinical Research, 2025 Objectives: This study aimed to synthesize and characterize a novel chalcone compound (ZH) derived from chromonyl thiadiazoline and to assess its biological activities, including antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties, as well as its fluorescence characteristics and DNA cleavage capability. Methods: The ZH molecule was synthesized and characterized structurally by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, multinuclear nuclear magnetic resonance (1H, 13C), and mass spectrometry. The acute toxicity was evaluated using Dixon’s up-and-down approach to ascertain the lethal dose 50% (LD50) value. The antibacterial efficacy was assessed using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method against Gram-positive bacteria (Streptococcus aureus and Bacillus) and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The antioxidant activity was evaluated relative to the standard antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). The cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 breast cancer cells was assessed using the 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) test after 72 h of treatment. The compound’s fluorescence characteristics and DNA cleavage activities were examined. Results: The ZH compound demonstrated greater toxicity than its counterpart (2), as evidenced by a reduced LD50 value. It exhibited significant antibacterial efficacy, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria, with a MIC of 5 mg/mL. While ZH had notable antioxidant action, it was inferior to BHT (82%). The MTT assay demonstrated substantial cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells, yielding an IC50 value of 45.54 μg/mL, which is markedly lower than that of the reference medication 5-Fluorouracil 5-FU (IC50 = 98.17 μg/mL). The molecule demonstrated significant fluorescence and efficient DNA cleavage activity. Conclusion: The synthesized ZH molecule has considerable bioactive properties, notably its antibacterial and anticancer efficacy, indicating substantial pharmacological potential. These findings underscore its significance for forthcoming advancements in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical design.
Inhibition of Carbon Steel Corrosion by Some New Organic 2-Hydroselenoacetamide Derivatives in HCl Medium Alaa Abdel Khaleq Khalib, Hanan Abdul Jaleel Al-Hazam, Attared Fadhel Hassan Indonesian Journal of Chemistry, 2022 This study aims to prepare 2-hydroselenoacetamide derivatives (5-8) to use some of these compounds as corrosion inhibition for carbon steel in 1 M HCl. The compound C10H10NO2Cl 1 was prepared by reacting between p-aminoacetophenone with chloroacetyl chloride, and then reacted 1 with substituted benzaldehyde to obtain the corresponding derivatives as C17H13N2O4Cl 2, C18H16NO4Cl 3 and C19H18NO4Cl 4. The last step in this study was conducted to obtain the organic hydroselenoacetamide such as C10H11NO2Se 5, C17H14N2O4Se 6, C18H17NO4Se 7, and C19H19NO4Se 8 by reacting chloroaminochalcone and sodium hydrogen selenide. All compounds were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), and elemental analysis (CHN). The corrosion inhibition activity of C17H14N2O4Se 6, C18H17NO4Se 7 and C19H18NO4Cl 4 for carbon steel in 1 M HCl solution was investigated by using weight loss methods and electrochemical study. The activation energy of the corrosion reaction was also calculated. The effect of different concentrations and temperatures on inhibition efficiency was investigated. The results showed that the corrosion rate decreased with the increase of the concentration of inhibitors, while the inhibition efficiency and covered area decreased with an increase in the temperature. Polarization studies demonstrated that the inhibitors were of mixed type. The purpose of this study was to prepare, characterize and evaluate the corrosion inhibition activity of hydroselenide compounds for carbon steel in 1 M HCl.
