Analysis of power conversion efficiency in boost and LLC resonant converter-based solar water pumping systems Nagma Bee, Kishor Thakre, Prateek Nigam Engineering Research Express, 2026 This paper investigates the feasibility of employing an LLC resonant converter in a high-efficiency Solar Water Pumping System (SWPS) as an alternative to the conventional boost converter stage. The proposed system integrates maximum power point tracking (MPPT), PI-based DC-link regulation, and V/f control of an induction motor to maintain optimal performance under varying solar irradiance conditions. A detailed MATLAB/Simulink model was developed and experimentally validated using an OPAL-RT 4510 hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platform. The LLC converter operates at 10 kHz, while the motor frequency is varied between 0–50 Hz to track irradiance-dependent reference speeds. Stagewise power flow analysis was conducted at irradiance levels of 1000, 500, and 300 W m −2 , comparing both boost and LLC topologies. Results indicate that the motor effectively follows the reference speed without overcurrent, and the LLC-based configuration achieves soft switching with a modest efficiency improvement from 83.9% to 85.7.0% over the conventional boost design. While the LLC approach may involve higher component costs, the study demonstrates its potential to enhance energy conversion efficiency, reduce switching losses, and improve operational reliability, providing insights into next-generation solar pumping solutions.
Design, Stage-Wise Power Loss Evaluation and Real-Time Validation of Totem-Pole Bridgeless Boost Converter Against DBR–Boost PFC Topology Prachi Wadhwaan, Prateek Nigam, Kishor Thakre International Journal of Electrical and Electronics Research, 2025 Conventional AC–DC power factor correction (PFC) systems typically employ a diode bridge rectifier (DBR) followed by a boost converter, resulting in significant conduction losses due to multiple semiconductor paths. This paper presents a comprehensive design, modeling, and comparative loss analysis of a Totem-Pole Bridgeless Boost Converter (TPBBC) as an efficient alternative to the DBR–Boost configuration. The proposed topology eliminates the front-end diode bridge, reducing conduction and switching losses while improving efficiency and power quality. Detailed MATLAB/Simulink simulations and real-time validation using OPAL-RT demonstrate the superior performance of the Totem-Pole converter, achieving higher efficiency, lower total harmonic distortion (THD), and near-unity power factor. A stage-wise power loss evaluation further confirms reduced device stress and ripple-free DC-link voltage. The results validate the Totem-Pole topology as a high-performance solution for next-generation AC–DC conversion applications requiring enhanced efficiency and power quality.
Intelligent MPPT Control for PV Systems: A Comparative Study of Conventional and Fuzzy Logic Approaches Kiran Kumari, Prateek Nigam Optimizing Automation in Engineering with Energy Systems and Communication Networks, 2025 This chapter presents a comparative analysis of four popular MPPT algorithms—Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC), Perturb and Observe (PNO), Incremental Conductance (INC), and Hill Climb (HC)—implemented in a MATLAB/Simulink-based PV system. The objective is to evaluate their performance under rapidly changing irradiance conditions, focusing on key metrics such as tracking speed, stability, and power extraction efficiency. Simulation results show that INC and PNO offer the most stable and efficient tracking with minimal oscillations, while FLC demonstrates superior adaptability but with slightly slower settling. The HC method exhibits slower convergence and higher ripple, making it the least effective. Overall, INC and PNO are recommended for robust MPPT control, with FLC showing potential for further development.
