Influence of FeCoNiMnCr high-entropy alloy particulate fillers on morphology and mechanical behaviour of epoxy composites Praveen J Mane, Venkatesh Murthy R, M Shantharaja, Prakrathi S Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2025 High-entropy alloys due to their tunable properties, superior corrosion resistance, and exceptional strength can be used as potential reinforcements in composites. In the present study, FeCoNiMnCr HEA sub-micron particles were used as fillers in the epoxy matrix to fabricate epoxy-HEA composites. These novel composite combinations were studied for their density, water absorption, microhardness and tensile properties. Metal powders of Fe, Co, Ni, Mn and Cr were mechanically alloyed in an equi-atomic ratio for 15 h to produce face-centred cubic (FCC) structured HEA particulates. The epoxy-HEA composites of different HEA concentrations (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 HEA wt. %) were prepared using hand lay-up process. The fabricated composites had good structural integrity with void content below 3%. The electron microscopy images showed sub-micron HEA particles homogenously dispersed in the epoxy matrix. Epoxy composite with 4 wt% HEA filler concentration showed an absorption rate of 0.86% for 192-h immersion. The composites showed improved mechanical properties as compared to neat epoxy. For the addition of 4 wt% HEA filler, the microhardness and tensile strength of the epoxy composite improved by 158% and 54%, respectively.
Bending, Tensile and Water Absorption Test of Corn Husk and Glass Fibre Reinforced Composite for Different Composition B. U. Harshith, T. S. Arun, S. Prakrathi Journal of Mines Metals and Fuels, 2023 Now a day, there is a huge trend in research and development of bio-based products which have a wide variety of replacement for naturally existing materials. The current research intends to determine the qualities of a composite laminate material consisting of maize husk and glass fibre. The composite is created by alternately overlaying glass fibre cloths on corn husk fibre layers. The required composition and thickness are achieved by calculation of number of the layer of each fibres. The epoxy resin and hardener by weight is mixed in the ratio 10:1 respectively. It is poured between the layers of the composite to generate adhesion. Hand lay-up technique is adopted in manufacturing of the material and the material is pressed for certain duration using nut and bolt template assembly allowing it for natural curing. The composite is being tested for bending, tensile and water absorption tests according to standards.
A Review on Understanding the Crystallization Process of Bioglass in Recent Decade Shakthi Prasad P, Swetha B M, Prakrathi S Journal of Mines Metals and Fuels, 2022 Bioglass is extensively used in clinical and bone tissue engineering, more specifically in orthopaedic as bone substitute in the form of granules or powders because of their excellent bioactivity, biodegradability and biocompatibility. They have the capability to form an integrated bond with bone through degradation and biomineralization at the surface of the living tissues. These activities are mainly driven by the composition, synthesis method and crystallinity of the bioglass. Therefore, in this paper we aimed at reviewing the basics and methods used in assessing the crystallization process of bioglasses and a few insights into crystallization revealed in the recent years. This critical review helps in tailoring and controlling crystallinity for their better applicability.
