Robust Multi-State EEG Cognitive Classification via Optimized Time-Domain Features and CatBoost Layla M. Nassir, Ali J. Ramadhan, Noor T. Al-Sharify, Mohammed I. Khalaf, Ahmed Ali Farhan Ogaili, et al. International Journal of Robotics and Control Systems, 2025 This study introduces a novel framework for classifying multi-state cognitive processes using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. By integrating optimized time-domain feature extraction with ensemble learning techniques, the proposed method achieves exceptional accuracy in distinguishing eight distinct cognitive states. The preprocessing pipeline employs finite impulse response (FIR) bandpass filtering (0.5–45 Hz) and Independent Component Analysis (ICA) for artifact removal, while feature extraction leverages Hjorth parameters and statistical measures. A comparative analysis of classification algorithms reveals CatBoost as the top performer, achieving 93.4% accuracy, followed by Neural Network (91.3%), SVM (89.7%), and AdaBoost (88.9%). CatBoost excels in discriminating complex states with computational efficiency, processing times ranging from 18 ms (SVM) to 32 ms (CatBoost), supporting real-time applications. The framework demonstrates robustness under varying signal quality, maintaining 91% accuracy at 10 dB SNR. These advancements set new benchmarks for EEG-based cognitive monitoring, with implications for adaptive systems requiring real-time neural feedback.
Statistical analysis of the vacuum solar collector using the analysis of variance method Marwa Majeed, Basima Khalaf, Layla Nassir Al Qadisiyah Journal for Engineering Sciences, 2023 Space and weight constraints, as well as the time lag between energy generation and consumption, are major obstacles to expanding solar water heating systems into existing structures with limited space. It is possible to collect heat with this small, evacuated tube collector (ETC). It was found that the air inside the glass tube has poor thermal conductivity. An experimental and numerical study was performed on an evacuated tube solar collector, incorporating a heat tube with cylindrical fins to increase the contact surface between the air and the fin surface. Statistical analysis software is used to verify the results in practice. The temperature data was investigated using SPSS under the same flow conditions. These figures are from experiments examining the effect of variable volumetric flow rate, boost type, and variance analysis on temperature distribution. When analyzing the results of the trials, a significant threshold of 95% was used. Therefore, we compare the calculated significance to a value of 0.05 to evaluate the efficacy and capabilities of the components. The reliability and validity of the model depend on the presence of two components. If the resulting value is less than the significance level (0.05), then the model can be considered robust and efficient (flow rate and optimization type). If the estimated value is greater than that, the variables do not affect system performance. Flow rate and type of enhancement are the two factors considered in the analysis of variance.
THE BEHAVIOR OF HEAT SINK-IMPINGEMENT COOLING WITH FLAT PLATE AND ARCED FINS MODELS Dalmn Y. Taha, Dhamyaa S. Khudhur, Layla M. Nassir Journal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2022 In this paper, a statistical analysis was applied to the numerical predictions of temperature distribution for the heat sinks. There are two types of heat sink with an array of impingement. The first type is a flat plate heat sink, and the second type is arcs-fins heat sinks. The second type category considers five models (A, B, C, D, and E). The shapes of fins were changed, but the thickness, distance between fins, and radius were held fixed for comparing and analyzing them depending upon the improvement of the fin geometry of heat sink. The heat sinks of the two types are subjected to multi impinging flow at different Reynolds numbers (7000-11000). Thermodynamic and hydraulic results were collected. The best model was calculated through a statistical analysis. The efficiency of an arcs-fin heat sink was superior to that of the flat plate heat sink. The findings of Model D were more appropriate than those of the other models. The concave arc near the heat sink's exit (model D) created better effect than the convex arc(model E), despite the fact that the (model D) shape fins being identical to (model E) shape fins (only rotated 180° at the same location). However, Descriptive Statistics manifested that in all situations, the mean temperature for (model D) is better than (model E). The results of comparison between the flat plate heat sink and models (D and E) evinced that the average heat sink temperaturein the suggested design reduced via 12%, 8%, while the (model E) decreased by 12%, 7% for Re (7000, 9000), respectively. In addition, the two models maintained the same percentage of (8% and 7%) improvement at Re (11000). The correlation coefficient between the flat plate and the arcs-fins heat sink for model B has the highest value (0.809), while model A has the lowest value of correlation (0.673).
