Modelling and simulation of portable solar Scheffler reflector water heater using soft computing techniques Mangesh Phate, Shraddha Toney, Vikas Phate International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2023 Solar Scheffler reflector is a parabolic reflecting dish that concentrates sunlight for various solar based applications. The major disadvantages of the traditional flat plate collector are lower temperature in the concentrator system as compared to the parabolic concentrator. Experimental analysis of solar Scheffler reflector has been carried out for the performance improvement in Indian climate. A dish of 27 m² size has been designed for the study. The maximum capacity of 15 lit received was used for the analysis, which serves as a hot water storage system. The thermal efficiency was estimated based on the reflector's incident radiation shape, operation time, dish area, altitude angle, the initial temperature of the water, and tilt angle of the reflector. Response surface method and artificial neural network were employed to analyse the Scheffler reflector's performance. A good agreement was observed between the model predicted and the measured efficiencies. This work made an effort to predict the Scheffler reflector's thermal efficiency for water heating. The statistical parameters were calculated between actual or experimental efficiency with the model predicted efficiency. It found that the model predicted response of both RSM and ANN shows a good agreement.
Evaluation of human seated posture exposure to low-frequency vibrations using biodynamic model Mangesh Phate, Shraddha Toney, Vikas Phate International Journal of Vehicle Safety, 2023 In this paper, the biodynamic responses exposed to human seated posture were investigated by developing a biodynamic model based on anthropometric data for various Indian male subjects. Four degrees of freedom model for the human seating posture was constructed to extract the different biodynamic responses at several low-frequency vibrations. The male subjects were categorised by age and body weight. A total of nine different categories were identified for the examination. The impact of body mass, age, stiffness, and damping coefficient of the body segments was analysed using MATLAB-based code. The biodynamic responses of seated posture have been measured in terms of seat-to-head transmissibility (STHT), driving point impedance (DPMI), and apparent mass (AM). The present work will help to predict the biodynamic responses of the seated human body under various vertical excitations. The results of the current work show that the proposed approach was very much effective and reliable for designing a seated posture ergonomically.
Multi-response Optimization and Analysis of Al/B4Cp EDM using Grey Relational Analysis Shraddha B. Toney, Mangesh R. Phate, Vikas R. Phate Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2022 Development of material, especially metal matrix composite (aluminumbased MMC), attracts worldwide researchers due to its enhancement in wear and abrasive resistance, lightweight and high strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion. This work investigates the electrical discharge machining (EDM) of Aluminum/Boron Carbide (Al/B4C) MMC. The optimization will help the researchers or metal processing industries use the investigated optimized process parameters for efficient and effective machining parameters. Pulse on time (PON), pulse off time (POFF), a variation of boron carbide(CP), and input current (IP) were varied to measure material removal rate (MRR), wear rate of the tool (TWR), and the surface roughness (Ra). The Taguchi method is used for the analysis of the machining parameters. Grey relational grade (GRA) is employed for the optimization of machining responses and the input parameters. The influence of various EDM parameters is investigated by analysis of variance (ANOVA). The multi-response optimization was carried out by GRA (CP: 4% of B4C, PON” 25 micro-sec, POFF: 9 micro-sec, and input current of 8 amp). The optimum responses were MRR: 17.58 mm3 /sec, TWR: 0.064 mm3 /sec, and Ra: 1.20 microns. The Aluminum-based alloys or composites are widely used in aerospace applications, automobile sectors, construction, aircraft industries, etc.
Multi-parametric Optimization of WEDM Using Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-Based PCA for Al/SiCp MMC Mangesh R. Phate, Shraddha B. Toney, Vikas R. Phate Journal of the Institution of Engineers India Series C, 2021 Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process optimization is essential when any novel material is discovered. The WEDM process has numerous variables which affect multiple responses. Therefore, multi-response optimization needs to be performed with the help of advanced optimization techniques. Multi-parametric optimization of the WEDM for processing aluminium silicate composite with 15–20% silicate (designated as Al/SiCp) was examined in the present work. A composite principal component was calculated using principal component analysis for multi-parametric optimization. The artificial neural network was employed for enhancing the performance of the process. Analysis of variance was performed to realize the influence of WEDM process parameters on the overall WEDM effectiveness. The WEDM response characteristics such as finish part roughness (Ra), material removal rate and kerf width were considered for this work. From the experimental findings, it is observed that the parameters, viz. the % composition of silicate, the pulse off time (POFF) and current (IP), are the most critical process parameters. The parameters obtained through the present analysis were silicate composition 15%, pulse on time 112 μs, POFF 56 μs, IP-3 A, wire feed rate 4 m/min, wire tension 10 kg and fluid pressure 13 kg/cm 3 .
Prediction and optimization of tool wear rate during electric discharge machining of Al/Cu/Ni alloy using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system Mangesh Phate, Aditya Bendale, Shraddha Toney, Vikas Phate Heliyon, 2020 Aluminum (Al)-copper (Cu)-nickel (Ni) alloy is a versatile material with lightweight and excellent strength. It also possesses properties such as superior corrosion resistance, fatigue strength. These alloys are essential in sectors viz. automobile, aerospace, defense, aerospace, etc. In this research work, the authors have presented the prediction and analysis of tool wear rate (TWR). The impact of electrical discharge machining (EDM) on process parameters viz. input current (IP), pulse on time (TON), pulse off time (TOFF)/for Al/Cu/Ni alloy with the composition 91/4/5 and 87/8/5 (weight %) is analyzed. Taguchi's L18 (21∗33) mixed plan is employed to plan the experimentation. A mathematical model develops to correlate these process parameters. A soft computing technique known as an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) utilizes to predict TWR. Taguchi analysis reveals that input current is the most influencing parameter followed by pulse on time. TWR decreases with a decrease in the amount of Aluminium. It increases in the amount of copper in the alloy. TWR firstly decreases with an increase in pulse on time and then starts to grow after the median value of 25 micro-sec. The confirmation experiments have conducted using optimum process parameters to validate the obtained results. The experimental finding shows the superior capability of ANFIS to predict the TWR with acceptable accuracy. The optimized TWR obtained was 0.1238 mm3/min based on the optimal settings of input parameters.
