Water quality management is a critical factor in intensive aquaculture, directly influencing fish survival, feeding efficiency, and production outcomes. This study evaluated the combined effects of water exchange and siphoning on the culture performance of hybrid grouper ( Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × E. lanceolatus ). A two-week trial was conducted using three treatments: (A) no water exchange and no siphoning, (B) 75% water exchange with siphoning, and (C) 75% water exchange without siphoning. Survival rate (SR), water quality parameters, feed utilization, and growth performance were assessed. The results showed that Treatment B consistently outperformed the others, achieving 100% survival compared to 97% in Treatment C and 88% in Treatment A. Water quality improvements under Treatment B were characterized by lower concentrations of ammonia, phosphate, and total organic matter (TOM), alongside higher feed intake and reduced uneaten feed. However, no significant differences were observed in growth parameters, including absolute growth rate of weight (AGRW) and specific growth rate of weight (SGRW), likely due to the short experimental duration. These findings demonstrate that integrating water exchange with siphoning is the most effective approach to ensure stable water quality, maximize survival, and enhance feed utilization in hybrid grouper culture. Future research should extend the culture period to evaluate long-term growth performance, reproductive outcomes, and economic feasibility of the combined management strategy.

This study aimed to determine the effect of using fermented shrimp shell meal in feed on the growth of Asian sea bass. This study was designed with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications thus the treatment obtained was A (feed without fermented shrimp shell meal); B (Feed using 15% fermented shrimp shell meal); C (Feed using 20% fermented shrimp shell meal) and D (Feed using 25% fermented shrimp shell meal). Parameters observed were daily growth rate and survival. The results showed that the percentage of substitution of fish meal with fermented shrimp shell meal was 25% in the feed ration resulting in the highest daily growth rate of 0.013 grams and 100% survival in rearing Asian sea bass (Lates calcalifer).

Feed is still one of the problems in aquaculture because it takes about 70% of operational costs. High prices is caused by imported raw materials for feed production. One possible effort to overcome this problem is to find alternative local raw materials to replace imported fish meal. The purpose of this study was to examine the proximate content of shrimp shell wastes from processing shrimp crackers (Paneus sp.) to be used as shrimp flour. Samples were colledted three times in a month, at the beginning, middle and end of the month. The waste of the heads, shells and tails of the shrimp were turned into flour for laboratory testing through proximate analysis. The data were tabulated using the Microsoft Excel softwareand then analyzed descriptively by comparing the nutrient content of shrimp waste flour with the feed requirements of mariculture. The results showed that shrimp shell flour contained protein, fat, carbohydrates and ash content of around 27.4%, 2.07%, 14.84% and 47.27%. while the resulting randemen ranged from 81.75%. Therefore, shrimp shell flour can be used as an alternative raw material for preparing marine fish feed.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) hormone has roles in inducing maturation, ovulation and fish spawning. Ovaprim is a reproductive hormone product that can stimulate the ovulation process and fish spawning. HCG hormone in marineculture is widely used for spawning fish with doses at around 1000 IU and 2 times of injections. This research was aimed to determine the effect of the combination of hCG and ovaprim hormone on spawning and figure the best treatment in inducing the spawning process of silver pompano. The method used four treatments: hCG x hCG, hCG x ovaprim, ovaprim x hCG, and ovaprim x ovaprim with three replicates of fish spawning (1 pair of parent fish). The best result in accelerating spawning latency time is ovaprim x ovaprim treatment and best performance is hCG x ovaprim treatment.
