Study of Change in Stainless Steel Plate Thickness using S-Domain Parameters Derived from Transient Eddy Current Oscillations Method Yesudasu Bammidi, ChandraS Angani, KSambasiva Rao, M.B. Sreedhar Journal of Magnetics, 2022 Failures in the industrial components are unavoidable due to material degradation from various sources, thus continuous monitoring and timely inspection is mandatory for structural safety. In the present study, the recently developed Transient Eddy Current Oscillations (TECO) method is used to detect wall-thinning in a stainless-steel plate. Unlike the conventional Eddy Current Testing impedance plane data a new interpretation method has been implemented to identify a thickness variation using the S-domain parameters. Furthermore, time and frequency spectral features are analysed to get more insight into the results. The decay time and the resonant frequency are the basis for the discussion to assess the wall thickness.
Gold-coated silicon nanoripples achieved via picosecond laser ablation for surface enhanced Raman scattering studies Ravi Kiran Avasarala, Twinkle Jena, Santosh Kumar Balivada, Chandrasekhar Angani, Hamad Syed, Venugopal Rao Soma, G Krishna Podagatlapalli Results in Optics, 2021 We report the results from ablation studies of polished single crystalline Si targets (of resistivity 1–10 Ohm-cm) submerged in acetone by employing the focused Airy pattern of the p-polarized laser pulses of duration ∼ 2 ps. The Airy pattern was obtained by inserting a circular aperture with hard edge before the focusing convex lens. The ablation was performed on the Si substrate at diverse scanning speeds of the motorized stage (25–600 μm/sec) with a fixed pulse energy (∼50 μJ) resulting in high/low spatial frequency laser induced periodic surface structures (HSFLIPSS/ LSFLIPSS). These are believed to be the outcome of varied electric fields and the varied pulse numbers at different scan speeds. The effective number of pulses estimated on the Si target demonstrated the surface structures with different grating periods. At lower and higher number of pulses HSFLIPSS were obtained. At an intermediate number of pulses, LSFLIPSS were observed. Further, the obtained HSFLIPSS (with grating periods ∼111 nm, 114 nm) were gold coated (25 nm) with magnetron dc sputtering technique and subsequently employed them for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) studies of explosive molecules 5-amino, 3-nitro, 1,3,5-nitrozole (ANTA) at a very low concentration of 100 nM. SERS imaging of ANTA from the mentioned HSFLIPSS illustrated the uniformity in SERS signatures with an intensity variation below 10% at different locations of the SERS active platform.
Novel time-domain parameters for detection and classification of flaws using pulsed eddy current technique K. Sambasiva Rao, T. V. Beatriceveena, C. S. Angani, Lucky Agarwal Journal of Magnetics, 2020 Pulsed eddy current (PEC) testing is an electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technique which is used for detection and classification of flaws. This paper presents an approach for the extraction of novel timedomain flaw parameters viz. amplitude ratio (V₁/VSUB0/SUB) and time constant (τ) for detection and classification of different flaws. Experiments are carried out on stainless steel (SS-316) plate with artificial EDM notches whose width (1.0 mm & 3.0 mm) and depth (1.0 mm to 6.0 mm) varied. The proposed approach can classify both surface and sub-surface flaws in an 8.0 mm thick SS plate. The advantage of the proposed approach is that it doesn't require a reference signal subtraction or signal processing methodologies for the detection and classification of flaws.
