BRIDGING THE POWER OF THE OCEAN AND NANOTECHNOLOGY: HARNESSING Porphyra Indica AND Gracilaria Salicornia SEAWEEDS TO SYNTHESIZE ECOFRIENDLY COPPER OXIDE NANOPARTICLES B. Malikka, P. Parthipan Rasayan Journal of Chemistry, 2025 The immense, untapped potential of the ocean offers an innovative pathway for sustainable nanotechnology, where natural resources like the seaweeds Porphyra indica and Gracilaria salicornia play a crucial role in the eco-friendly synthesis of copper oxide nanoparticles. "UV spectrum reveals that the peaks at 448 nm and 564 nm correspond to the CuO NPs’ absorption. FTIR spectrum showed the presence of alcohols, amine, and phenolic groups that are mainly accountable for producing CuO-NPs. SEM analysis revealed that the average size of the synthesised CuO nanoparticles was between 14.8 and 15 nanometres. EDAX spectrum showed pure CuO-NPs as only copper and oxygen related peaks are present without any impurity peaks, confirming the formation of CuO-NPs. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies revealed the monocyclic crystalline phase of CuO-NPs. The good reduction behaviour from Cyclic Voltametric studies confirms the formation of copper oxide. CuONPs demonstrate significant antibacterial efficacy, exhibiting inhibition zones larger than 11 mm against five different bacterial strains. This highlights the dual advantage of using Porphyra indica and Gracilaria salicornia not only in sustainable nanoparticle synthesis but also in advancing antimicrobial applications.
First principal study of conduction mechanism of Mg doped BaCoO2.6 nanoparticles Fareenpoornima R, S. Deborah, G. Parthipan Next Materials, 2025 In this study, Mg-doped BaCoO 2.6 (Ba 1-x Mg x CoO 2.6 ) (x = 0.1 – 0.4) compounds were synthesized via Sol-gel method and their frequency and temperature-depended electrical properties were investigated in the temperature range 37 ° C – 200 ° C using an impedance analyzer. Structural and chemical analysis of Mg-doped BaCoO 2.6 were carried out via scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDAX) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The imaginary part of impedance as a function of frequency shows Debye-like relaxation. Impedance data is presented in the Nyquist plot, and the argand diagram with the grain, grain-boundary, and electrode contributions is estimated. The activation energies for the ac conductivity decrease with the frequency rise. The shifting of modulus peaks to low-frequency region suggests long-range motion and the presence of two peaks at 473 K to both long and short-range motion with more than one relaxation time. Our research being the first to report on dielectric studies, we suggest the sample’s use as serial nano-capacitors and in optical, microwave devices. • For the first time, dielectric properties of Ba 3 Co 2 O 6 (CO 3 ) 0.6 is reported here. • Mixed conduction is noticed in Ba 3 Co 2 O 6 (CO 3 ) 0.6 from 50 Hz to 10 3 Hz. • Non-Debye type of relaxation mechanism is confirmed in Ba 3 Co 2 O 6 (CO 3 ) 0.6 . • Shifting of Z” peak to low frequency region with increase in temperature.
Synthesis of a Novel Nanoparticle BaCoO2.6through Sol-Gel Method and Elucidation of Its Structure and Electrical Properties Fareenpoornima Rafiq, Parthipan Govindsamy, Selvakumar Periyasamy Journal of Nanomaterials, 2022 The physical properties of cobalt oxide with varied oxidation states, and coordination numbers, in the transition series, have numerous applications. The present study explores the physical properties of BaCoO2.6 nanoparticles synthesized through the sol-gel method. The X-ray diffraction figure exhibits a 25 nm crystallite size hexagonal phase. The observational data shows the reduction in the real part of impedance ( Z ’ ), dielectric constant ( ξ ’ ), dielectric loss ( ξ ” ), and a raise in ac conductivity of mixed type of conduction with an elevation in frequency analyzed through impedance spectroscopy. The conductivity due to grain and grain boundaries is shown foremost in the complex impedance analysis. The plot of ∆ V / ∆ T (Seebeck coefficient) in the low-temperature range indicates p-type behavior and the metal-insulator transition in the as-synthesized sample. The sample characteristics suggest applications in optical and switching devices. The Seebeck coefficient is the generation of potential difference when subjected to temperature difference. Thermoelectric materials are associated with the concept of high electrical conductivity like crystals and low thermal conductivity to that of glass. Nanothermoelectric materials can decrease further the thermal conductivity through phonon scattering. Electrical characterization suggests the presence of both NTCR and PTCR behavior in the sample, and hence, it explores the application in thermistor/resistance temperature detector’s (RTD) and low dielectric constant and loss to electro-optical and higher conversion efficiency to storage devices. Additionally, impedance spectroscopy helps in the study of electrochemical systems and solid-state devices wherein the transition of metal-insulator is an add-on to the research.
