Loneliness and Psychological Distress among Female School and University Students in India: Mediating Role of Coping Style, Social Support and Resilience Anuradha Sathiyaseelan, Sathiyaseelan Balasundaram, Bishal Patangia, Roseline Florence Gomes Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Journal, 2025 Loneliness and psychological distress are major psychological health issues among the student community because of social and continuously increasing academic pressure. Female students are vulnerable to these challenges, with a risk of severe mental health issues. In the present study, we aimed to examine loneliness and psychological distress among female students in India, assessing how social support, coping style, and resilience mediate these effects. Through a web-based survey, 687 responses were collected from female students across various educational institutions, including high school (n=292) and college/university (n=395) students in India. Standardized tools were used to gather data on resilience, psychological distress, coping styles, social support, and loneliness. The findings revealed moderate levels of resilience and psychological distress among the participants. The coping style scores indicated a general trend toward effective coping mechanisms. A higher level of social support was observed than a moderate level of loneliness. While coping style had a minimal mediating influence, resilience and social support were significant mediators of the association between loneliness and psychological distress. This study highlights the psychological experiences of female students in India and makes a significant contribution by providing empirical evidence on the unique roles of protective factors such as resilience and social support against psychological distress and loneliness. These findings are crucial in promoting a targeted mental health framework and support systems for students in similar contexts, reinforcing the need for a holistic approach to student mental health.
Equity and inclusion in GenAI innovation: Exploring the challenges and strategies for ensuring equitable access to and benefits from GenAI-driven innovation V. Padmaja, P. Bhanumathi, Bishal Patangia Generative AI Impact Reframing Innovation in Society 5 0, 2025 This chapter examines the critical need for equity and inclusion in the development and deployment of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies. As GenAI rapidly transforms various sectors, from health care to education, its benefits are not evenly distributed, risking the exacerbation of existing social inequalities leading to a huge digital divide. The chapter explores theoretical frameworks like critical race theory (CRT) and intersectionality to understand how biases embedded in AI systems can perpetuate discrimination. It also highlights the role of open-source platforms and emerging AI initiatives in the Global South in democratizing access to these technologies. Through case studies of companies like Procter & Gamble and Microsoft, the chapter demonstrates both the potential of GenAI to drive innovation and the challenges of integrating AI ethically into global operations. The discussion underscores the importance of deliberate, inclusive strategies to ensure that AI serves as a force for social good, fostering global equity rather than deepening divides.
Stress and Decision-Making among Civil Aviation Pilots in India: Mediating Role of Cognitive Flexibility Deepak Lakshmana, Bishal Patangia, Janis Maria Antony, Santosh Kareepadath Rajan Indian Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, 2025 Objective: The study aims to investigate the difference between stress, decision-making, and cognitive flexibility based on demographic factors and the mediating role of cognitive flexibility on the association of stress and decision-making among civil aviation pilots. Methods: Data was collected from 372 commercial pilots from India through an online survey. The survey comprises standardized tools, including perceived stress, decision-making, and cognitive flexibility. Results: No significant gender difference was found in stress, decision-making, and cognitive flexibility. Age and work experience influenced stress levels, with mid-career pilots reporting the highest stress. Stress has a negative impact on pilots’ decision-making ability. Cognitive flexibility partially mediates this relationship. Conclusion: Integrating cognitive flexibility training and stress management interventions into pilot training programs could significantly improve decision-making under pressure for safer aviation practices.
Innovative Leadership and Sustainable Development: Exploring Resource-Efficient Strategies Among Indian Managers Anuradha Sathiyaseelan, Sathiyaseelan Balasundaram, Michael Zirkler, Bishal Patangia Business Strategy and Development, 2024 Global sustainability challenges demand innovative leadership approaches, particularly in resource‐constrained environments where traditional models may fall short. The current study aimed to explore the need for adaptive, resource‐efficient leadership by examining key traits such as empathy, inclusivity, adaptability, and intuitive decision‐making that allows managers to balance immediate organizational demands with long‐term sustainability goals. A Qualitative‐Interpretative Phenomenological Approach was adopted. A total of 28 senior Indian managers were interviewed to understand traits aligned with stakeholder theory and the resource‐based view, positioning them as strategic assets for achieving sustainable competitive advantage. Findings revealed that culturally resonant practices of frugality and resilience support social innovation and organizational resilience, contributing to broader sustainable development objectives. Further, it advances sustainable leadership literature by showcasing how resource efficiency and contextual adaptability can foster impactful, sustainable practices, particularly within emerging economies.
Application of neuroscience methods in HRDM for brain-based human capital optimization Bishal Patangia, Rithani J. M., Thaddeus Alfonso Cognitive Behavioral Neuroscience in Organizational Settings, 2024 For years, human resource development and management (HRDM) has used behavioral assessments to gauge employee potential. However, advancements in cognitive behavioral neuroscience (CBN) have opened up new possibilities for understanding how the human mind works. This chapter explores the practical applications of neuroscience methods like EEG, ERP, MRI, and fMRI, as well as neurofeedback and biofeedback, in talent identification, leadership development, and employee well-being. Importantly, these insights can be directly applied in HRDM practices, leading to more effective talent management, leadership development, and improved employee well-being. While recognizing the ethical considerations involved with these technologies, the chapter presents a compelling vision for a future where HRDM practices are informed by a deeper understanding of the brain, enabling the workforce to reach its full potential.
